Ioannis is a great tour guide. We had a nice afternoon walking around the different districts and eating a LOT of different foods. The stories he told that explained why he chose each food were very interesting and made us try new things. Go hungry though because Ioannis does not like to waste food!!😊 It was a great day! We spent a day with Ioannis on the Cape Sounio & Temple of Poseidon Private Day Trip. What a treat! After picking us up at our hotel, Ioannis took us on a very scenic drive along the Greek coast to Cape Sunnio. The experience at the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon could not have been any different than the chaotic one we had the day before at the Acropolis. The Temple of Poseidon was just as spectacular in its own way, but without the crowds. But be prepared for the wind. It was fierce the day we went. Following our visit to the temple, Ioannis took us to a nearby village where we had a leisurely lunch and even dipped our toes in the Aegean Sea! We had a great time sitting and visiting with Ioannis. His knowledge of local history is remarkable and he really makes it come to life. This was one of the very best tours we have taken in Europe and I thougt it was a great value. I cannot recommend Ioannis highly enough. A great tour. An even greater guide. A Fantastic Day

Our family of 5 had a terrific 3 hour walking tour with Ioannis. He was incredibly informative and kept our 21, 18 and 16 year olds entertained and engaged. He shared loads of inside information about the areas on our tour, sharing loads of information and pointing out great art galleries and rooftop bars that only locals would know about. A particular highlight was when we ventured into Anofiatika, the “island village” at the base of the Acropolis. Our family of five (ages 20-57) toured with Ioannis through the streets of Athens. Ioannis took us away from the busiest and most touristy streets and showed us more of the local life of Athens. There were still lots of people in August, but we weren't cramped or pushing through the crowds. Ioannis tailored the tour based on our preferences. We love history and food, and he showed us both. We saw some very interesting historic spots (outside the slopes and Acropolis), like the Agora, the ancient "mall", temples, and others. He spoke about the city's process of uncovering new archeological sites, something he, as a lawyer, knew a lot about. We asked him about good local honey; check. Greek olive oil; check. Seafood restaurants, best gyros/souvlaki, local wines, local clothes shops; check, check, check, check. He showed us a fun artist-funded, below-ground hangout, where we later (off tour) sampled some local wines and tried our first mastiha. The souvlaki we ate after the tour at the restaurant he recommended was the best we had in Athens. Ioannis was very knowledgable and came with such a unique perspective as a widely-traveled and broadly-educated local. On our recent trip to Greece, we wanted to include at tour of Athens which was off the beaten path and particularly included street art. After feeling comfortable with Withlocals, as a company, we chose Yanni (Ioannis) to be our guide. It turned out to be a wonderful choice, as the three hours we had together was filled with wanderings through Athens in areas that we would never have discovered on our own. Yanni had a great sense of humor and knowledge of history and details that made the time fly by. He took us to see non-stop graffiti or as I would rather describe it as street art, as it was a beautiful display of alley after alley of outstanding art. Every gate, every wall covered with fabulous images. In conjunction with viewing all these creations, he shared interesting bits of info related to the art. He combined this with taking us to some unique spots like “Disney” in Athens and other spots, we, again, would never have seen on our own. It was a very memorable time spent with Yanni and I highly recommend him as a knowledgeable, intelligent and interesting guide and most importantly, someone who makes you feel comfortable and whom you can call a friend!Fabulous Guide

We chose Ioannis as our guide for a food tour in Athens – and what an experience it was! The theme was Greek cuisine, but the tour offered so much more than just flavors. Ioannis shared his deep knowledge of both food culture and history – we especially remember the story about why the Acropolis, despite its name, is not the highest mountain in Athens. Those little insights truly brought the tour to life! He took us through the meat, fish, and vegetable markets ❤️ and introduced us to amazing local specialists and authentic eateries well off the typical tourist trail. I had an incredible experience with Ioannis on an off-the-beaten-path tour of Athens. From the very beginning, he really listened to what I was interested in and tailored the tour to match. He took us through local neighborhoods that combined street art, culture, and history in such a thoughtful way. One of the highlights was when he showed us some hard-to-find ancient frescoes tucked away in an area I would have walked right past if I were on my own. Ioannis was the perfect guide. His initial greeting was gracious and welcoming. I had written to him before the tour to inform him that I required a slow pace and occasional rest stops. What a great experience we had with Ioannis. He clearly takes great pride in sharing his love for Athens and the food and culture there Don’t expect to walk around the touristy areas. Ioannis took us off the beaten path to vibrant local neighborhoods where we experienced how real Greeks eat and shop. The dinner spot he chose for us set the bar for every meal we had during our entire 12-day trip—it became our gold standard! Real authentic cuisine. Most importantly, Ioannis was incredibly accommodating, especially when it came to my food allergy. Not only did he handle it with care, but he also kept the mood light and fun and managed to turn those moments into laughs. Ioannis always found delicious alternatives so I never felt like I was missing out. Anyone with a food allergy knows how hard it is to share in the joys of food in other countries. Ioanni was amazing!!!! We were SO happy we hired him for our morning tour through part of the center. Ioannis masterfully wove mythology, architecture, history, and cultural information all together. We had two teenagers with us and while history and mythology isn’t really their thing, ioannis included them and made it a bit more interactive. We loved his explanation of the Agora, our walk through Anafiotika (neighborhood of tiny homes at base of Acropolis in the Plaka), and our walk through various neighborhoods. So much info packed in a few hours!!!! Wonderful!

Our tour to Cape Sounio was a wonderful blend of natural beauty and cultural insight. The drive along the Athenian Riviera was absolutely stunning, with sweeping views of the coastline and the Aegean Sea. Ioannis offered insightful and engaging commentary throughout the drive. His deep knowledge of Greek history and mythology was impressive, but what made it even more special was the personal connection he shared with the area (thank you for sharing with us!!). Ioannis was great! We had a personalized tour experience with him. He asked what we were doing afterwards, and we told him the Acropolis, so he designed our tour to end close the Acropolis. He also recommended a restaurant for lunch that had our favorite baklava of the trip! For our actual tour, he showed us around and gave us the history of all the ruins as well as a few secret bars/restaurants that had great ambience (one had a fantastic view). He answered all of our questions, taught us, and took pictures for us. We highly recommend Ioannis!Great guide!

Ioannis took our group of 4 on a five hour tour of Athens. Ioannis was incredible in his knowledge on just about everything Greek-mythology, ancient history, current history, art, food, music, architecture, and politics.
