This tour was well worth the money. It was a full day for sure. Our guide Luis, was very knowledgeable about Tomar, the Knight Templars, the castles, the Convent of Christ, the aqueduct was amazing, and the history that went along with each. He took us to a very unique but awesome medieval restaurant Taverna Antiqua for lunch. The only negatives I have are that the vehicle was too small for 5, sixty something people. Also WithLocals actually switched guides on us. We didn't get the person we originally requested and didn’t find that out until the day of the tour. I hadn’t noticed because they were both name Luis. Luis was a fabulous guide for our trip to Fatima and Tomar. He customized the day and pivoted easily when we wanted to do some souvenir shopping. We chose this tour because of our interest in Medieval history and the Crusades. It also was a plus that this amazing historical site is off the beaten tourist path. Joao really brought magic to the day with his thoughtful insights and stories that wove together centuries of Portuguese history, culture and politics all the way up to the present day. He also provided a healthy dose of Dan Brown/DaVinci Code myth-busting to the discussion. To top things off we had a great lunch al fresco at the foot of the Roman bridge crossing a gently flowing river running through the picturesque town of Tomar. It was arguably the best day we spent on our two-week vacation in Portugal. Back to the future

We booked an all day tour to visit some of the Templar Knights historical sites with Our guide Luis. He picked us up at our vacation spot and drove us through the country for our tour to Tomar. Luis is an encyclopedia of knowledge! He was apt at showing us all of the interesting locations and very detailed knowledge of the sites you would not get with the larger tours. Our pace was perfect and comfortable for an all day adventure going as fast or slow as we wanted and we also came home with some fantastic photography. My husband and I love to learn on our travels and have taken some fully-guided trips such as with Road Scholar. This time we decided to tailor our own, staying in Lisbon and hiring local guides, and we were fortunate to find Sylvia, who is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable! We took the Knights Templar tour and felt like we were stepping back into history. From the boat ride to access a medieval fortress in the morning fog, to a delicious lunch in a restored centuries- old tavern, she knew how to get us to important sites. We could easily have gone through the Convent of Christ in Tomar on our own without learning many of the details which brought tears to my eyes. Most importantly, she was flexible in meeting the interests we expressed. My husband mentioned that part of his family is Jewish. She knew about , and took us to, a restored museum and synagogue in Tomar. Not only does she know history, but she answered many of our questions about life in Portugal today. She made our day a delight!History with enthusiasm!

We are a family of four visiting Portugal for the first time. Joao took us to Tomar to visit the beautiful Convent of Christ and the Almourol Castle on our last day in Portugal. The church and castle are so beautiful but I believe Joao made a difference in our experience. He is knowledgeable, kind, patience, and very generous with his time. We feel we have had a brief history lesson of Portugal; a glimpse of how the Knights Templar had affected and shaped the history of Portugal. We also learned the way of life of Portugal through Joao. Joao also took us to the historical town of Tomar and had a unique medieval lunch at a local restaurant. We enjoy our leisure lunch and drinks as Portuguese do and chatted and hanged out like friends. Our young adult children also enjoyed this tour tremendously and commented how much they learned on this tour. Joao has gone above and beyond on this tour-way past the 9 hours of the tour. He took us back to Lisbon at the end of the tour, dropped us off at the Time-out market to make sure we could try the Pasteis de Nata of Manteigaria as we wish and showed us where to buy the wines we want to bring home. Then also suggested where we should have our last seafood dinner in Lisbon. We have had a wonderful day with Joao and will not hesitate to recommend Joao. The best day!!!! I booked a tasting tour with Sonia on our arrival day. I had worried we might be too jet lagged to enjoy it but I was so glad I booked anyway! Wir hatten eine traumhafte schöne Führung mit Luís! All die Informationen über Geschichte, Hintergründe, Entwicklung der Stadt und auch persönliche Erfahrungen der eigenen Familie wurden so kurzweilig und interessant rüber gebracht, dass es von Anfang bis Ende spannend blieb. Vorab schon gab es eine tolle Kommunikation, wo wir nach Wünschen und Ablauf gefragt wurden. Auch die Restaurant Tips unter Berücksichtigung der genannten Unverträglichkeiten waren Gold wert. Eine davon haben wir gleich nach Ende der Tour umgesetzt und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Man hat gemerkt, dass Luís sein Job Spaß macht. Uns wurde weitaus mehr geboten, als wir erwartet hatten. Sowohl inhaltlich, als auch zeitlich. 1000 Dank für diesen tollen Tag! Einfach perfekt!

There were 6 family members on our tour with Sonia. 1 has knee mobility issues and needs to move slower at times. We reached out to Sonia several weeks before the tour and she was so very considerate to make sure we were all comfortable with special attention to our one family member. In talking with Sonia, it’s very apparent she loves people and her city! We felt like we immediately connected with her and really enjoyed our time with her - hearing about and tasting some of her favorite foods - croquettes, coffee, code cakes, shrimp, chorizo, pasteles de nata and the cherry liqueur Ginja! She also asked if we were interested in history and shared some of the history of Lisbon and Portugal, and she took us into an amazingly beautiful church.
