We met Simona at the train station in Rome and she gave us a great lesson on our ride to Florence. It, unfortunately, was a rainy day, but Simona powered us through it. She is amazing in her knowledge of all things large and small and we had a wonderful time with her. The only thing I can critique is there were 4 of us and it was difficult for all of us to hear her as we were walking the streets. I highly recommend her as a guide. Emanuele was such a wonderful host and guide—spending time with him honestly felt more like hanging out with a local friend than being on a tour. He even sent me the exact meeting spot with photos ahead of time (so even I couldn’t get lost 😅) He showed me some really fun spots, like the gelato stand where the Obamas once stopped (yes, that famous one!). We stopped in and had some ourselves. Along the way, he shared stories and explained little details—like why the statues in the fountains look so crisp and white—that really brought Rome to life. Where the Embassies were and where Julias Caesar was assassinated. I’d reached out before the tour to let him know I have celiac disease, and he went above and beyond: sending me a list of gluten-free resources and even checking in the next day to see if I had questions. That kind of thoughtfulness meant a lot. What I loved most is that he’s truly local to Rome! He knows the side streets, the history, and all the stories that make the city so special. My wife, two children and I visited the colosseum and surrounding areas for 3 hours with Eleanor. She gave us a lot of really entertaining information as we went round and was very engaging for us and the children. She clearly knew the most efficient routes and we got to see everything without wasting any time. My children keep saying how glad they were that we had Eleanor with us and about how much they enjoyed the tour. I wouldn’t normally spend this much on a private guide, but I’m very glad that we did on this occasion. Booking with Eleonora was absolutely the best decision I made for the entire trip to Rome! Her English is excellent, very easy to understand. Her knowledge of history is great as well. However, the best part about her was her assertiveness with other travelers and locals to get us where we were supposed to be when others were in the way. We visited St. Peter’s and the Vatican Museum during the youth pilgrimage for the Jubilee and the crowds were insane. If we were on our own we never would have gotten in to any of the venues, even with skip the line tickets. Lastly she managed to get us underground tickets for the Colosseum as well! We had the best experience with Max as our tour guide in Rome. He somehow managed to keep both the adults and the kids totally engaged—which is no small feat. I booked an all day private tour with Sara and she was amazing. She was able to speed the tour up and skip a few things to appease our crowd. He had a wonderful time walking with and learning from Max. He is incredibly engaging, crazy smart, but has the agility to communicate with individuals of all ages and interests.
