Matteo is a lovely person who does a really cool tour of Calcata, a town outside of Rome that was abandoned and then reinhabited by creative types years later. We stopped at a beautiful lake en route, and saw swans and some pretty views. The same in Calcata, and he was kind enough to indulge my obsession with all of the local cats hanging out. I'm also partially disabled, and he was sympathetic to that, offering to help me up/down some steep stairs. I do wish I had gotten a bit more history of Calcata's past, though, which is why I didn't give him 10 hearts. Matteo is a 10-heart human, and with a little more history, this would be a 10-heart tour.Great guy, cool historical town

We spent a whole day together with the friendly Matteo. We started the day at a hidden gem of a café in Rome, then drove to Lago di Bracciano before arriving in the charming village of Calcata. Matteo was knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about the places we visited and about Rome in general. We had an exquisite lunch at IL Guazzabuglio. Before heading back to Rome, we visited the tearoom La Sala, which boasts 101 types of tea and over 500 teapots. Thank you so much, Matteo, for an unforgettable day. But be warned—if you don’t like cats, Calcata is teeming with them!An unforgettable day in charming Calcata.

We really enjoyed our day in the small villages of Anguillara Sabazia and Calcata Vecchia after several days in busy Rome. Matteo was an excellent guide and very accommodating. This day was honestly a highlight of our trip! Matteo was so thoughtful, and really let us jump into life as a local! We had amazing views, stopped and got some great local snacks and a pick me up coffee, and lively conversation all before even reaching Calcatta. Once we arrived, it was like going back in time and stepping into a local’s life there. No tourists or big gimmicks, just art, scenery, hidden restaurants and cats popping in and out of the alleys. The architecture is so cool, but definitely recommend wearing good shoes as you trek up those steps and dip into alleys. Gorgeous views are everywhere! The only reason I’m willing to spill the secret is because Matteo deserves the recommendation! 10/10Awesome time in Calcatta!

We had a great day traveling to Calcata with Matteo. We had interesting conversations with Matteo about life in Rome and Italy and got along great with Matteo. We were disappointed that the town was pretty closed down the day we went on the tour. I would have moved around our tour schedule had we known this in advance, and we feel that our guide should have known this and perhaps advised us in advance since we booked months in advance. Despite this we had a great day with Matteo but a less flexible client may have been upset and disappointed to not see Calcata in full swing. We made the best of it and Matteo did great with finding alternative spots for lunch, as well as giving us choices to do lunch back in Rome so we give high marks for being fluid! Thank you!Exciting day outside of Rome!

We had a wonderful day with Matteo. The two towns we explored were beautiful and fascinating, especially Calcata which is improbably perched on top of a bluff. Matteo is a gracious and very engaging guide and we had ample time to see both towns, enjoy lunch together and not feel rushed. Matteo was great as he is warm and friendly. Communicating with him was easy as his English language skills were stellar! He took us on a tour of Calcatta and Lake Bracciano. What a special day, from the sights, food and coffee, all were amazing. We felt his local knowledge made the tour quite special. We would have never been able to see Calcatta as it is only accessible by car. (and we were not driving in or out of Rome) We would highly reccommend this tour and Matteo as your guide. We were sorry we ran out of time in Rome and were unable to take another tour with him.Fantastic private tour

We had a wonderful day with Matteo on our trip to Calcata. He is very friendly and has great knowledge of the area. He worked with us to customize our trip, adding stops on the way (Lake Bracciano and Anguillara Sabazia) and on the way back (scenic point overlooking Trastevere). He went at our pace and did not rush us as we explored narrow cobblestone streets and scenic overlooks. He had great knowledge of the towns and navigated easily through the maze of streets to some great viewing spots. He also made some great suggestions for our lunch in Calcata. Matteo is such a delightful host, and the trip to the beautiful medieval village was one of the top highlights of our trip to Italy. We stopped at a creek and waterfall on the way, found wonderful artisanal crafts in Calcata, and had an excellent lunch after exploring all the cobbled paths and lovely vistas of the commune.10/10 Recommend!

When I booked the Calcata tour, I asked Matteo if we could add some stops in the area. Not only did he take my suggestions, he researched extra and found even more unique possible stops. This was by far our favorite day of our week in Italy. Not only is Matteo an excellent guide, he is a foodie and photographer, which further enhanced everything about our experience. We had a thoroughly great day with Matteo in our adventure to Calcata. He was a fun and somewhat informative host, a good driver, and took us to places we never would have seen. Be prepared to walk some uneven hilly terrain and stairs. Lovely spot,, lovely lunch,. We would recommend.Get out of Rome

We had an amazing time touring Trastevere with Matteo! It was a fun and meaningful experience that really helped us discover the local charm of the city. We joined the tour with our two young children (aged 5 and 2), and Matteo was incredibly kind and attentive to them. Thanks to his warm and patient attitude, even our little ones enjoyed the tour and were able to participate comfortably. There were times when our kids were slow to move or didn’t quite cooperate, but Matteo was always patient and understanding. That allowed us to enjoy the tour at our own pace without any pressure. One of the highlights was that Matteo took many beautiful family photos for us. Thanks to him, we now have lovely memories captured in pictures that we will treasure forever. He also took us to places we never would have found on our own and recommended some delicious local restaurants. We ended up having dinner at one of them after the tour – it was fantastic! We were especially happy to hear that we were his first Japanese guests. Matteo explained everything clearly in English, which made it easy for us to understand and enjoy the experience. Matteo was the BEST! The pictures were taken on our phone so we got then all and he made them look very professional with just our normal phones. He was able to direct us to the best gelato, coffee, pastries, and even a park (hard to find in rome)! He was great with our parents, and our toddler! The food tour with Matteo was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. Although my friend and I have been in Rome before, it was so fun to spend time with a local and try “non-touristy food”. Matteo was a personable and perfect guide - he provided just the right balance of information and conversation. Matteo was a great guide! He took us around the streets of Rome for some photographic angles, assisted with ideas and perspective. Also, the idea of capturing "Rome" was an interesting concept for me.... trying to capture the essence in its people, its buildings. It was a good way of focusing on how to feature Rome through my photos and not just another city. His knowledge of Roman history was an added bonus. Matteo also took us to his favourite coffee shop, pizza stop and gelato. All just great! Matteo took his time and we did not feel rushed during our ramble through Rome's streets. We did a fair bit of hill climbing but it was all so worth it for the incredible view of the city from up high and rewarded ourselves with incredible gelato on the way back down! Matteo knows this part of Rome quite well. He knew all the best street corners and architectural elements and how to photograph them. He was able to design the walk with emphasis to my interests - that being street photography. He is also very knowledgeable regarding technical details of photography and will give you useful insights to the extent you want them. Matteo is an easygoing friendly bloke whose love of Roma is evident. We strolled the streets of Trastevere, keeping an eye out for likely photographs, & chatting. He helped me to see what the leading lines might be in photos of buildings & together we looked out for light & shade. This was such a precious memory for us during our visit to Rome. The walk around the neighbourhood with Matteo was such an eye opener. We learnt so much from Matteo — from photography tips to the history of the place and the local life and food of the people. Matteo taught us how to factor lighting in, which resulted in awesome photos. He gave us tips on photography which we will definitely use from now on. We really enjoyed the 3 hour walk with Matteo! He showed us the famously squares, hidden churches and the small streets of Travestere. He told us all about the history of the city, and how to get the perfect pictures: how to play with the sunlight and shadows and how to frame details. And above all, he is very friendly! Matteo met me in Rome for a three hour experience in photography. He was able to share places in Rome that I would never have found myself. We explored a parts of the city that the local people enjoyed. Magnificent churches, philosophy of photography discussion, use of light, photographing people, how to tell a story, visiting a fabulous cafe and even a delicious biscuit shop with biscuit cooking while we were there. My friends and I truly enjoyed our time with Matteo exploring the streets of Travastere in Rome. He is a wonderful, warm person who is a delightful photographer - both from creative and technical perspectives. He is great at making the personal connection to the people he is guiding. In our group we had both beginner and more advanced photographers and he was able to provide each of us a great experience. We met him at 5pm and ended the tour at 8pm - this was a great time to do the tour for the light, shadows, and sunset colors over the river. I had a terrific time with Matteo. He started out asking about some of my photography and what I am interested in. As we walked he discussed light, contrast, shapes, etc. We'd discuss an image and each take some photos. He'd critique and provide useful guidance. All the while showing me and discussing the sites in the areas we walked. It was a great experience and I enjoyed the company.
