The tailormade tour which Dionysis provided us with was the highlight of our stay in Athens for me and my 3 young adults! Of course visiting the Akropolis is great, and sure the museum is very interesting, but with Dionysis we got to get to know Athens from a different perspective. We had a very interesting walk and talk through the old town of Athens and learned and saw some things that one would usually struggle to find in a book. A few of the statements around eras/ dates were inaccurate after following-up some interests and doing some further research. My only issue would be that the tour did not last the 3 hours as he was late getting to us to start and needed to get to another tour he was due to do towards the end quickly, and so cut us off short. The three hours would have been good

Nikolas was a fair tour guide. His knowledge was very good and his route was interesting. However my constructive comments are that after several discussions about the heat and sun, previous to the walk and during the walk, it wasn’t until I made it very clear that we need to stand in the shade during explanations, without further debate. He also walked very very very slowly at the beginning, reprimanding us to stay with him always, even though his pace was slow. And at nearing the last 25% telling us to pick up the pace or we won’t finish in time. As mentioned his knowledge was good but his delivery lacked any sense of humor and was a bit dry. Lastly, though also requested by texts, a restaurant for 10 of us, he did not disclose the location until the end of the tour. It was a 25 minute uber ride out of the centre, as he said it would not be touristy. We however had transportation to catch back in town after lunch (another 25 minute cab back in) and added 50 minute to our hotels for pick up. There just seemed to be a lack of maturity on understanding our needs. I am sure he will improve.Ok, could improve

My husband, 8 year old son and I enjoyed a great morning in Athens with Makram. He tailored his stories to our son, who is very interested in Greek mythology, and did a good job of pacing our tour to keep our son interested and engaged. He showed us great “hidden gems” we never would have known about and enjoyed learning about the city’s history with him! Our group had a great 10 Tastes of Athens tour with Makram! The food we sampled was delicious - the kritzini (breadsticks) were a revelation - and plentiful - we should have refrained from eating all day to fully enjoy all the tasty selections! The hidden bar was a nice visit - we would not have found that on our own. We already recommended this tour and Makram to a fellow traveler. Great tastes with Makram

I booked this a few weeks ago and asked for a private guided tour of Athens. I didn’t save my email text request but wanted a tour of the acropolis and places where Paul preached. I apparently chose the wrong tour which I found out toward the end…the guide was nice & knowledgeable of the areas we were shown, but I would not have chosen this tour had I known what it did not include. I think that the tour should have made it clear that we were NOT seeing any of the acropolis or where Paul preached. It should be in bold red letters on the website. The price I paid was not worth the money for this tour. I was very disappointed. We ended up walking to the entrance and doing the acropolis tour on our own along with the spot where Paul preached. Dionysis blew away all expectations for our food tour of Athens. He took us to local spots with top quality authentic Greek food. The amount of food for our party of 8 was plentiful and he kept asking if we'd like to order more. While walking between restaurants, Dionysis was a wealth of knowledge about the history of Athens. We also requested a stroll through Plaka, and he was happy to oblige. We spent a wonderful morning getting to try new Greek foods around Athens with Vasiliki (Vicki). The first place we went to was a small greek cafe where we tried some greek pastries, a spinach pie as well as a delicious cream filled pie as well as the infamous Greek coffee. Next we walked through a meat and fish market which was so interesting! The second food we tried were pistachios which are very popular in Athens and Greece. Following that, we walked over to a stand that had many varieties of olives. We tried all sorts of different types of olives. After that we stopped in a place that had a bunch of different kinds of cheese and personally I thought they were all so delicious, especially the creamy feta! The next food we tried after that were greek meat skewers called souvlaki. We got to try both the chicken and pork and both were so tasty! Lastly to finish out the tour we went to a little dessert place and tried a type of dessert called lukamades and they were so good! Vasiliki was a wonderful tour guide! She spoke wonderful english, was easy to talk to, and was so nice! Throughout the tour while telling us about the food she also gave us a history lesson on Greece and told us more about each area we were walking through. She was our family's favorite tour guide and made this tour the best one we have ever been on! Vicki helped to provide us with an excellent introduction to Athens and we would highly recommend her tour!Best Tour We've Ever Been On!

Makram was our guide for our Drinks & Bites in Athens Tour. He was absolutely fantastic. He radiated his love of this city, his country, the people, and wonderful food. While we had walked around quite a bit, Makram showed us the most beautiful hidden gems. We are so lucky to have had Dionysis as guide. He was flexible and met us at a location more convenient for us which had a great view of Acropolis. He was full of great information and brought us at the end of the tour to a great spot for the best souvlaki in town. In addition, we needed a guide for the following day for one of the museums, and he turned us on to a great friend of his and Registered National Archaeological museum guide. Eleni has a depth of knowledge about the city from her familial roots in Athens and her deep studies and research as an archaeologist. We learned about so much more than food. Speaking of, the food tour took us to over 5 places where we must have tried over 10 dishes and sweet treats. Her energy is very calming and she knows all the best spots for each dish. You can find almost any dish in any of the Greek restaurants and bakeries, but Eleni knew where to find the long-standing locals joints and led us through several beautiful neighborhoods. I was only in Athens a short time for the first time and wanted to get a sense and feel for the city. Dionysis was accommodating and really flexible. I booked for a much shorter time that we actually spent walking and touring. His archaeologist background and passion for Athens is evident with his knowledge and take on ancient Greece and the current state of things He has wonderful grecian hospitality and informative insight. Niko was very flexible to accommodate our unique timing and needs. He had great stories and history to share. We visited a local gem of a cover beach. Overall the tour itself was just okay- a bit disappointing, actually. We were so excited about this tour and were really looking forward to the personalized and more intimate experience of hiring a tour guide from withlocals. I sent a message a month in advance to let our guide know a bit about us and our goals/interests for the tour and never heard back. I reached out again a couple days in advance through the website and finally heard back. However, when we were on the tour, it really didn’t seem like our guide read anything I wrote. The tour wasn’t personalized at all and honestly it lacked energy and enthusiasm. The time spent walking between locations was in silence whereas most tours I’ve been a part of the guide takes that time to tell stories or preface us with information for the next location we will be seeing. I will say, we definitely learned a lot about architecture and a little bit about the history of Athens and Athens’ occupiers which was so fascinating and I would have loved to learn more. I love history and hearing stories about past events, sadly, what history we did learn was spotty and disjointed which made it hard to put the pieces together. We enjoyed getting some lemonade near the foot of the Acropolis and hearing a bit more about our guide’s life and some details on modern Athens. I really don’t mean to be too harsh because our guide was a kind person but the tour wasn’t at all what we were expecting based on the descriptions on the website and the price.Athens Hidden Gems Tour
