Our dinner at Simon and Rain’s home was such a joy. It truly felt like a visit with friends. From the wine and snacks at the beginning as we chatted in their living room to the delicious dinner prepared by Simon, the three hours flew by. I was a little wary when booking this - dinner with two strangers in their home? But do not hesitate - this is really dinner with two new friends, Simon and Rein! The food was fantastic - shrimp appetizer, lamb, and molten chocolate cake. Then the wine! I *hate* even the smell of wine, but I tried all that they offered and ended up enjoying three glasses! But the best part was the conversation-we could have easily stayed for even longer if we hadn't had an early train! An absolutely fantastic night, and to top it off, they have two delightful dachshunds so I even got to give some dog scratchies! Do not miss this experience!!

This was the second time we had been to Amsterdam. We were fortunate enough on the first trip to dine with Simon, his husband, and their two delightful pups. The whole family agreed that since we were returning to Amsterdam, this would be the one experience we would repeat. If you enjoy fine dining, great conversation, and wonderful wine pairings, do not miss this opportunity. I honestly don't know how they manage it... It has been seamless on both trips and a definite highlight of both. We honestly feel like we have a family of new friends in Amsterdam thanks to their hospitality. We do plan to return to Amsterdam in the next year or so, and when we do, we already are planning to see if we can make another dinner engagement with Simon. Even better the second time around...

We were looking to begin our trip to Amsterdam by eating with locals and getting some insider recommendations on things to do for the rest of our trip. Simon and Rein were absolutely FANTASTIC hosts and we enjoyed every minute of our expereince. Simon was a great cook preparing delicious dishes that exhibited the local flavor. Rein showed us some great local Dutch wines and did not allow our glasses to run empty. Both were fantastic conversationalists and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at their house. We left the experience feeling like we had two new friends in Amsterdam and will certainly be reachign out to Simon and Rein to grab a drink next time we're in the city! Wonderful Hosts

What a wonderful evening. Simon, his husband and 2 dachshunds were perfect hosts. I was welcomed with lovely appetizers and wine. Their home is beautiful and I see why they enjoy sharing it. All the food was great. We had a shrimp salad course, main dish of white asparagus with ham, egg and potato followed by an excellent chocolate mousse. Conversation flowed as easily as the wine. I highly recommend this local experience. My best experience while in Amsterdam

Simon and his husband Rain were the perfect hosts as they welcomed us into their beautifully decorated home. They were warm and engaging and the conversation and the laughs never stopped. We learned a lot about the Dutch way of life from them. Simon thought of every detail in preparing the food and Rain paired each course with a wine that would enhance the taste of the food. There were 3 courses and each one was presented beautifully and the selection and taste of the food was magnificent. At the end of the evening, they even helped us order an Uber and then escorted us outside to the car. An experience not to miss if visiting Amsterdam!A wonderful evening in Amsterdam

I am not sure where to start. Simon and Rein are incredibly hospitable! This was more like an evening with friends I've not seen in a few months! Their home is absolutely lovely and reflects who they are. We all became acquainted over (delicious) wine and nibbles in the living room and met their sweet pups, Flip and Klaartje. Moving to the dinner portion of the evening, one word: outstanding! Asparagus starter, lamb for the main course (with potatoes to die for!) and a dark chocolate cheesecake for dessert. The entire time, the meal was paired with amazing wine and conversation. I quite enjoyed watching Simon in the kitchen. He is a master in his domain! They are both so entertaining and funny. It was incredible. I've never been made to feel so welcome in someone's home! My next trip to Amsterdam (yes, I am going back!) I will be arranging dinner with Simon and Rein again. Food, conversation, laughter.. FABULOUS!A must-do when in Amsterdam!

What a wonderful time we had at the home of Simon and his partner Rein! We walked to the venue in a beautiful, safe neighborhood, a bit apprehensive about being dinner guests in the home of strangers, but we were greeted like old friends and immediately "clicked" with our charming and attractive hosts. The four of us shared a lot of interests, particularly in art, and the conversation flowed like a river. The setting--in a well-appointed and very European apartment with a rooftop view of the city--was extremely comfortable, and the food was beyond delicious. As arranged, on May 12, 2018, another couple, my wife, and I visited the apartment of Simon and his partner Rayne for dinner. Their apartment is located in a very nice section of Amsterdam, about a 20-minute walk from The Conservatorium Hotel. They were very welcoming and warm. It was as if we were visiting friends, hence the review title. Their hospitality was evident from the moment we first met. We started out with wine and nibbles on their roof-top seating area. The conversation was lively, and never flagged until we left 3+ hours later. After a while, and I have no idea how long we sat there engaged in talking and drinking wine, we went downstairs for a memorable dinner of, white asparagus with ham, lamb with potatoes au gratin, and a sinfully delicious desert - along with paired wines of course. Suddenly it was a little after 10:00 PM, and time for us to leave. We bid each other a fond farewell and departed. For information, there is a #5 tram that stops almost outside their door, but it was a lovely night and we needed the exercise. The experience was very much more than we expected; a memorable evening that remains one of the highlights of our trap. My complements to Simon and Rayne; I would recommend an evening with them to anyone who finds themselves in Amsterdam.An Outstanding Evening With Friends

Simon and Rein are such gracious hosts. We were laughing from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Conversation was so easy and fun. We learned so much about the local culture and community. Each course was paired perfectly with a lovely wine. We enjoyed a caprese salad of burrata and tomatoes, venison steak with mashed root celery and brusel sprouts and finished with a molten chocolate tart with strawberries. It was heavenly. Simon and Rein (sp?) were wonderful hosts. My husband and I and our 2 friends felt very welcomed and the conversation was flowing non-stop (just like the wine :)). This was an excellent way to begin our first-ever stay in Amsterdam. It felt like having dinner with an old friend, who also happens to be an outstanding cook and host. As soon as we arrived at his beautiful apartment, we were whisked up to Simon's rooftop deck to join two of his friends for wine, munchies, and a fabulous view. Dinner followed in his very comfortable dining room, as course after delicious course rolled out of the kitchen. The wine and conversation flowed very freely among the five of us. Dinner with locals was my first night out in Amsterdam and it was the most amazing experience. This was a girls night out with 6 of my good friends. It was a splendid evening with Simon, his guy and Klaartje, their nice doggie. We began on the roof-terrace for some connecting in the setting sun. That was easy and the wine was excelent.
