We only had one day to soak up as much of the city and all its history as we could. Thankfully, we booked in for a tailor-made private tour with Dionysis. His knowledge was endless and his discussions thoughtful. We never stumped him once with the many many questions we asked. What a guy.

The tailormade tour which Dionysis provided us with was the highlight of our stay in Athens for me and my 3 young adults! Of course visiting the Akropolis is great, and sure the museum is very interesting, but with Dionysis we got to get to know Athens from a different perspective. We had a very interesting walk and talk through the old town of Athens and learned and saw some things that one would usually struggle to find in a book. A few of the statements around eras/ dates were inaccurate after following-up some interests and doing some further research. My only issue would be that the tour did not last the 3 hours as he was late getting to us to start and needed to get to another tour he was due to do towards the end quickly, and so cut us off short. The three hours would have been good

My husband, 8 year old son and I enjoyed a great morning in Athens with Makram. He tailored his stories to our son, who is very interested in Greek mythology, and did a good job of pacing our tour to keep our son interested and engaged. He showed us great “hidden gems” we never would have known about and enjoyed learning about the city’s history with him! Eva was not only an outstanding tour guide, but a wonderful person with whom to spend three hours. She is engaging, warm, humorous and by the end of the time together she felt like a friend. She was extremely knowledgeable about greek history and intertwined mythology into the information and stories she shared about the acropolis by giving us each mythological roles. We not only spent time learning details about the acropolis itself, as we wandered around the ruins, but also had an incredibly interesting tour through the museum. Eva pointed out bits of information one would never pick up on their own. I only wish we could have spent the day together!!! My children (11,12) enjoyed his vast mythological knowledge, as they themselves are addicted to National Geographic’s Greeking out podcast. Would recommend him to families for sure! Alexandros is a great tour guide, made it interesting tying the Acropolis sites with Greek mythology. The kids were engaged. We are so lucky to have had Dionysis as guide. He was flexible and met us at a location more convenient for us which had a great view of Acropolis. He was full of great information and brought us at the end of the tour to a great spot for the best souvlaki in town. In addition, we needed a guide for the following day for one of the museums, and he turned us on to a great friend of his and Registered National Archaeological museum guide. What a wonderful tour we had this evening! Our tour guide was so intelligent and gave us so much information about the city of Athens. Trying to keep two teenage girls engaged during a three hour tour is not easy, but John absolutely crushed it! Both of our daughters and my wife and I left with smiles on our faces wishing we had even more time to learn from John. It was a little surprising to travel half way around the world and find a kindred spirit, but I think that is one of John’s gifts. He knows how to connect with people and then use that connection to share his vast knowledge of all things Greek including mythology, history, culture and cuisine. He guided us for two days and we learned so much, but more importantly we experienced Athens on another level. He took us to places we would have never found on our own and even if we did we would not have access. My daughters are particularly interested in mythology and he made learning come to life. He also takes great pictures! We will treasure the memories of moments shared for years to come. We decided to book with John based on the reviews of others, and now we are adding our own review. We enjoyed a 3 hour walking tour around Athens looking at the ancient sites of Athens and some different areas around Athens that we wouldn’t have been confident seeing on our own. My family loved visiting Athens with Evanthia! It was the perfect way to get to know the city on our first full day in Athens. Eva was energetic, fun and informative and was able to connect with both parents and teens. She showed us some local spots and delicacies that we would not have learned about without her and gave us great recommendations for activities and places to eat for later in our trip. John did a great job for us. He helped find a place for our luggage since we met him right after getting out of the airport. He was understanding and worked with us since we were late meeting him from the airport. The tour was great and the kids enjoyed it too (which is the hardest part). Alex did wonderfully at introducing the history and mythos to our family and blending information to be engaging for a tired 8 year old, a 10 year old that read all Percy Jackson books multiple times, and two parents with high and low interests in history. This was our second tour with Markella, our first being three years ago. In this 3 hour tour Markella was able to combine two very different topics ( at our request), Ancient Greek Mythology and Greece from its inception as a nation to the more modern period. Markella was able to weave these two topics together as we wandered the streets of central Athens. Her knowledge of the topics and her obvious love of her home city really made this another very special time for us. I did the mythology tour in Athens with my children (11/13). Costas was very knowledgeable about mythology and the city. He had some great places to visit and I was then able to then navigate the centre of the city. He brought the tour down to the level of the kids and they gained a lot from it. Would highly recommend. Athens is full of tour groups… but how incredibly fortunate we were to have John share his passion, enthusiasm and knowledge with us on his history and mythology tour of Athens! John has a real gift in storytelling and adapting to his audience. He is warm, friendly and engaging and his extensive knowledge and love of his city and its fascinating history was always on display. We were a family group of teenagers, parents and grandparents and John managed to engage each and every one of us. He used quizzes and stories to make the city come alive and had us searching for hidden puzzles and meaning in the architecture around us. Despite the heat (and a bit of jet-lag) affecting my children during the tour, they have since recalled everything they learnt from John and enthusiastically shared their new found knowledge with others. They took it all in and have gained a unique and personal perspective on a beautiful city.
