We had a great day out as a family of four (our boys aged 13 and 10) with a day trip to Ba Na Hills with our local guide, Hieu, who picked us up at our hotel in Da Nang. Hieu speaks excellent English and answered all our questions en route to Ba Na Hills as well as sharing interesting information about the region and Vietnam. Whilst many people seemed to visit Ba Na Hills without a guide, I can safely say our day was better for having one. Hieu knew the location and helped guide us to see things, suggesting the sequence to see things to minimise queuing time. Ba Na Hills was very pretty. Lush greenery up the steep mountainside accompanied us on the cable car ride to the top. The attraction was packed which is something to keep in mind. There were long queues, but these kept moving quite quickly. It was exceptionally busy the day we visited as the weather in the days prior had been very wet following a recent typhoon. The castles were interesting and Hieu shared good information about the history. He was patient with kids who can become irritated when queuing. The Golden Bridge, whilst packed with people, was pretty and had amazing views. Just don't expect to have the bridge to yourself! There are lovely gardens, one of three large Buddha statues in the region, and lovely temple to also visit. Hieu's driving was very safe and he was a very lovely guy to spend the day with. He also gave us some fantastic restaurant recommendations to visit during the rest of our stay. We can highly recommend Hieu as your guide in Da Nang. Ba Na Hills day out

My family and I booked a private tour with Tony. He was very responsive and reachable even prior to our in person meeting. On our tour dates, he was always on time, attentive, friendly, and a pleasure to be around. Tony's English is very good and his detailed knowledge of the local attractions made our tours both informative, and fun. Hieu is an experienced, professional and friendly tour guide that is also very responsive. When I was looking around for a tour guide, he was very responsive and was quick to provide a quote for consideration. Although I was worried about the weather since there was an airport closure quite close to my travel date, he was quick to reassure me that all was good for travel on the dates that I'll be there. On the day itself, he was friendly and professional and it was comfortable traveling around with him. His experience and expertise shows, as he was well prepared for bad weather (it rained heavily on and off while we were up on Ba Na Hills) for the both of us. As I was still recovering from a bad flu and cough, I was appreciative of his attention to detail - he sensed that I was struggling to keep moving due to the number of stairs/hills I had to manage on the tour and suggested we skip some parts to take things easy. Hieu is a great tour guide and speaks excellent English. He managed to avoid all the queues at Bana Hills. We thought Bana Hills itself was underwhelming. It’s a Vietnamese Disneyland (nothing wrong with that if that’s what you are looking for) and the Golden Bridge is more of a theme perk attraction than an iconic landmark. Also the weather was so bad we couldn’t see a thing. But Hieu was a trooper and made the day enjoyable. So 10/10 for Hieu and 5/10 for Bana Hills. As a family travelling with a 3-year old toddler (full of personality!), we were seeking a tour experience with somebody who is equal parts knowledgeable and with good EQ! We thoroughly enjoyed our 8hrs of tour with Hieu. I've visited Danang many times for work, but this was my first time settling on a trip there, and I must say that Hieu's private tour was enjoyable. He has the qualities of being the tour guide, understanding of the area's history, quick response, a soft voice, not too loud, and patience. We have 2 seniors in the group, which required many breaks due to my Aunt and Uncle's conditions. Hieu willingly went the extra mile to make it pleasant and more manageable for my Aunt and Uncle, which made the experience enjoyable. Some of my friends told me it was a bit silly to take a tour in DN cuz I might have to pay through the nose for the trip, which we can explore by ourselves, but well, you pay for what you get; it's your vacation too and not having to deal with or wait for strangers in a larger group, take many breaks as much as you want, skip when you needed also made the experience more personal. P/s: The lunch buffet wasn't my cup of tea tho :)))Great family time to Danang Trip

I would thoroughly recommend taking a tour with Hieu. From initial communication through to final goodbye the experience was excellent. We took a day trip to Hue from Hoi An which provided a day full of historic and cultural information and sight seeing. Our many questions were answered along the way. He was familiar with all the local restaurants, and we tried many different Vietnamese dishes from rice to noodles and chicken, beef and pork. Our tour in Da Nang with Hieu was simply wonderful and exceeded all our expectations. From the very start, Hieu was waiting for us at the airport as soon as we landed, and noticing we hadn’t eaten, he took us straight to enjoy a truly local breakfast — a perfect start to the day. He then guided us through a personal and peaceful visit to Marble Mountain and Lady Buddha. Thanks to his planning, we arrived early and avoided the crowds, which made the experience even more special. Along the way, Hieu surprised us with bonus stops that weren’t even on the itinerary — including the Dragon Bridge, the Road of Love, and a quick moment to enjoy the beautiful Da Nang beach. To top it all off, he took us to a local spot for lunch, where we tried quang noodles — hands down one of the best things I ate in all of Vietnam. And then, as if that weren’t enough, Hieu personally escorted us all the way to Ba Na Hills and stayed with us until the moment we boarded the cable car to our hotel. We did a custom tour with Hieu that lasted over 10 hours and covered a visit to the Lady Buddha and Monkey Mountain, a food stop in Danang, the Marble mountains, and dinner and a walking tour in Hoi An. Hieu also provided pick-up and drop-off at our cruise port in Chan May. (This is the one about 40 minutes from Da Nang that Celebrity and Royal Caribbean use) Hieu was the perfect guide. He has a great personality and is very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the Da Nang area. I don't think there was anything we asked about what we saw that he couldn't answer. There was a lot of driving on the tour, but Hieu made the time pass quickly with his descriptions of what we were passing and insights only a local knows. His English is excellent and he is very easy to understand. Overall, I would choose him again and am very glad that we chose him for this trip.Great day with a great guide

We booked the tour to get an overview of Da Nang and Hieu was already very helpful in the booking process. He layed out the different tour options and made sure he had the right hotel to pick us up. Even a last minute hotel change wasn’t a problem. The tour itself was very good. Because Hieu came with his own car we could leave stuff in it at the different stops and Hieu even had water for us in the car. We change the plan during the day, because we had already seen some places. Hieu knows the city very well and came up with a different route for us. This is my first time with Withlocals and I had a pretty mediocre experience, unfortunately. I thought the price was pretty expensive for what we got. Hieu was a very nice gentleman, who was on time and patient. He waited for us to install a pretty difficult car seat into his car. He was also pretty quiet, and reserved so we had to ask questions to get some history and context of Vietnam. Nothing really stand out in the tour to Hoi An for us, we stopped by a temple and wasn't given anything history besides the fact that the frame of the door was written in Chinese. I think it's important to really have a plan for a tour like this and actively point out interesting people, food, streets, stores etc. as we go along. We really felt like we were with a driver more than a tour guide during this trip. A pretty expensive tour for what you get

We did 3 tours with Hieu. They were well planned, well delivered, interesting and insightful. He is punctual, knowledgeable and speaks good English. Hieu is a really good tour guide and a lovely person too. I would recommend him most highly.A great tour guide.

Was travelling with 2 young children and 2 elderly and was thankful for having Tony as our guide for my family. Not only did he gave great recommendations before and during the tour, he was also very patient and flexible with our needs. My children truly enjoyed his company and we knew we are on safe hands. As a "Việt kiều" (Vietnamese person living abroad) I'm quite skeptical when it comes to tour guides and I'm cautious about being scammed or falling into tourist traps ... But I'm happy to say Hieu was a fantastic tour guide! We initially chose him because of his friendly and clear communication. He made some good recommendations on what to see / not to see and he was able to tailor the tour based on our interests. On the day, he was a few mins early, the car was spotless and it felt incredibly safe to be with him. My nervous system was able to relax because he was always thinking ahead for us (he was prepared for the rainy weather, he made great local food recommendations, provided plenty of water, regular bathroom breaks and he knew how to avoid crowds at busy times). He never tried to upsell anything and didn't try to make extra stops to earn a commission. I really appreciated this as it allowed me to relax and just enjoy the tour. Hieu was also extremely knowledgeable and gave us thorough explanations and lots of insight into the places we visited. We were able to ask questions and have some interesting conversations about Vietnamese history and culture (I learnt a lot). He also knows where all the best photography spots are which is fun and helpful. Highly recommend!
