Eleni has a depth of knowledge about the city from her familial roots in Athens and her deep studies and research as an archaeologist. We learned about so much more than food. Speaking of, the food tour took us to over 5 places where we must have tried over 10 dishes and sweet treats. Her energy is very calming and she knows all the best spots for each dish. You can find almost any dish in any of the Greek restaurants and bakeries, but Eleni knew where to find the long-standing locals joints and led us through several beautiful neighborhoods. What a great experience we had with Ioannis. He clearly takes great pride in sharing his love for Athens and the food and culture there Don’t expect to walk around the touristy areas. Ioannis took us off the beaten path to vibrant local neighborhoods where we experienced how real Greeks eat and shop. Voula was absolutely wonderful! She took us to some great locations including the market and a honey shop! We sampled lots of local bites while also learning some very interesting history. She was kind and extremely knowledgeable. She answered all of our questions and provided us a very personalized introduction to all that Athens has to offer. We did the local food tour with Eleni. She made sure to ask us before what are thing we would like try from the local food. She took us to the local market and was patient with us while we were buying some products she would also recommend what to take what to not. Eleni spoke excellent English and is very knowledgeable about the history of Athens! She was very accommodating as well as she asked us if we have any allergies and whether we prefer savoury or sweet food. A suggestion for next time, perhaps, would be to try different food from different merchants as we tasted 3 things from the same place. So maybe it could have been planned slightly better. Having said that, we ate well and in abundance. It was certainly a pleasure getting to know her and well worth the price. Good food and good guide!

After we met Tatialena, we knew for sure, this was going to be a good tour! It felt like spending a few hours with a really fun friend. She is so knowledgeable, shared her insights about Athens as a local, and brought us to wonderful Greek tastings! Told her stories with some acting, LOVED it! Tatialena is a very heart-warming person who told us stories about food, dancing, music and history with so much verve that is was a pleasure listening to her. Yorgos was perfectly on time at the meeting point. He asked us about our preferences, foodwise and showed us some excellent places to eat around the marketplace as well as in the outskirts of the Psirri area and a little away from the beaten tracks where the locals dined. We had several tastings on the tour and an interesting conversation about the Greek way of living and family structures as well as some talk about the old bulidings in Athens. Yorgos has a nice sense of humor and is very easy going company. Perfect stroll through Athens

We had a fantastic food tour with Voula last week. We were so happy that we decided on a private tour and that we picked Voula as our guide. We enjoyed it from start to finish, and it felt more like exploring authentic Athens with a friend than a guide. The places she took us to were all amazing, and she is very knowledgeable about both the food culture and the history of Athens. Other guides can – understandably – seem like they are just delivering a memorized monologue for the 100th time. With Voula, we did not feel that way, and she was very interested in engaging with us and answering all our stupid questions. Ioannis was the perfect guide. His initial greeting was gracious and welcoming. I had written to him before the tour to inform him that I required a slow pace and occasional rest stops. I was only in Athens a short time for the first time and wanted to get a sense and feel for the city. Dionysis was accommodating and really flexible. I booked for a much shorter time that we actually spent walking and touring. His archaeologist background and passion for Athens is evident with his knowledge and take on ancient Greece and the current state of things He has wonderful grecian hospitality and informative insight. Niko was very flexible to accommodate our unique timing and needs. He had great stories and history to share. We visited a local gem of a cover beach. He did not accompany us to the temple so in that way he was more of a driver than tour guide. We had a lovely meal at a local taberna. Thanks Niko! Fun, local experience!

The souvlaki was to die for and all of the food at the Taverna was delicious! The spicy feta dish and the pork dish were standouts! We were so full and extremely satisfied after our tour. Ioanni was amazing!!!! We were SO happy we hired him for our morning tour through part of the center. Ioannis masterfully wove mythology, architecture, history, and cultural information all together. We had two teenagers with us and while history and mythology isn’t really their thing, ioannis included them and made it a bit more interactive. We loved his explanation of the Agora, our walk through Anafiotika (neighborhood of tiny homes at base of Acropolis in the Plaka), and our walk through various neighborhoods. So much info packed in a few hours!!!! Wonderful!

Overall the tour itself was just okay- a bit disappointing, actually. We were so excited about this tour and were really looking forward to the personalized and more intimate experience of hiring a tour guide from withlocals. I sent a message a month in advance to let our guide know a bit about us and our goals/interests for the tour and never heard back. I reached out again a couple days in advance through the website and finally heard back. However, when we were on the tour, it really didn’t seem like our guide read anything I wrote. The tour wasn’t personalized at all and honestly it lacked energy and enthusiasm. The time spent walking between locations was in silence whereas most tours I’ve been a part of the guide takes that time to tell stories or preface us with information for the next location we will be seeing. I will say, we definitely learned a lot about architecture and a little bit about the history of Athens and Athens’ occupiers which was so fascinating and I would have loved to learn more. I love history and hearing stories about past events, sadly, what history we did learn was spotty and disjointed which made it hard to put the pieces together. We enjoyed getting some lemonade near the foot of the Acropolis and hearing a bit more about our guide’s life and some details on modern Athens. I really don’t mean to be too harsh because our guide was a kind person but the tour wasn’t at all what we were expecting based on the descriptions on the website and the price.Athens Hidden Gems Tour

Ioannis was a wonderful guide. He is very knowledgeable about this history of Greece. He took up on the Cape Sounio tour. Ioannis was prompt, friendly, passionate about Greece. He truly went out of his was to meet any requests we had. He chose a wonderful lunch spot for us along the coast, which had the freshest seafood and a stunning view. He made sure we had a wonderful table, which was kind gesture. He found us a perfect spot along the coast free from the crowds, we went on our tour on a Greek holiday, so the beaches were unusually busy. We had the most incredible food tour in Athens, all thanks to our phenomenal guide, Voula. From the moment we met her, it felt like we were being shown around by a local friend who knows all the best hidden gems. Her passion for Greek food and culture was contagious, and every stop on the tour was a delight. The Nutella donuts were out of this world — warm, gooey, and absolutely addictive. The visit to the honey store was both delicious and educational; we never knew honey could be that complex and flavorful! The meat market gave us a fascinating peek into daily Athenian life, and Voula brought it to life with stories and insider knowledge. One of our favorite moments was the little shop she took us to, where we tried an incredible variety of feta-based dishes — each one better than the last! We never would have found a place like that on our own. Voula made the experience feel personal, authentic, and truly local. Ioannis was amazing! He shared history, funny stories and brought us to places we would have never discovered on our own. He even engaged my teenage boys with the history and myths.
