I love to eat in every country I travel to. Now so many big cities have multiple places to eat & drink it’s hard to choose even if you have extensively researched the subject. This is the way to go. Like being with Anthony Bourdain….sort of! Darko is very personable & we had lively conversations on politics, music & Croatian culture. Altho some people might find this a little pricey…..I’m just 1 instead of a party….it was worth it to me. You get what you pay for!Fabulous food & conversation.

I arranged a tour with Debora that split half Hidden Treasures and half Culinary Kickstart for myself and a friend in Split. Our tour with Josko was the highlight of our first day in Split. Josko was knowledgeable, engaging, and funny. He explained the history of Split in such a way that you real understood how the City came to be and also so much more than that. Josko, stepped in on 2 days notice when our selected guide couldn’t go ahead with the booking. This was really appreciated and didn’t leave us in the lurch. Josko’s tour was very well structured and followed an order that made it very informative and easy to take in (and hopefully remember!). He covered not only Roman times with the Diocletian Palace but also the formation of Yugoslavia and the recent Balkan War periods. He presents the information well and is easily understood. We got to see the beautiful view and medieval fortress of Klis, and were blown away by the amazing crystal cave that is a well known secret to the locals. I cannot recommend this tour enough! Darko was amazing knowing all the best spots. It was worth the cost for a private tour as he was able to cater it to our dietary preferences, and even arrange some unique experiences to make the most of our time. He also shared some brief history along the way giving us more than just a good tour. It was the best way to see the city and it was clear he had some great connections with the locals also giving us recommendations for the rest if our trip. Our day in Split with Josko was perfect. He has extensive knowledge of the political and cultural history of Croatia and the entire region, and he's an excellent communicator. He's a great ambassador for his country. Within minutes he felt like an old friend. We learned more about Split and the Diocletian palace in a few hours with him than we would have in several days of blundering about on our own. There were several cruise ships in port that day, so by mid-morning the crowd of tourists swelled. Josko skillfully conducted us around the crowds to avoid lines and ensure that we saw everything we wanted to see as well as lots more we wouldn't have known to look for. He also guided us to an excellent sidewalk cafe for lunch where he helped us sample Croatian food and wines. We couldn't have asked for a better tour experience.A perfect day exploring Split

Linda was a great guide, in particular for our 13 and 16-year old kids, who are 'less interested' in the historical facts. She found the right balance of facts to share, interesting stories, and activities to include ( gelato!) to keep our kids engaged for the most part. Joško was a wonderful guide...especially given the hot weather!! He was thoughtful in trying to keep us as comfortable as possible in the heat during our walking tour. He opened our eyes and minds to the rich history and nuances of Split. He was engaging, open and honest in his responses to our questions. We aren't fans of "typical" tourist experiences, but Joško made the tour of the historic palace and old town a joy and a unique experience. Joško was great! His stories and wide knowledge really helped us see how Split changed through the ages and especially how the Diocletian Palace and the Old Town came to be! We learned so much more than we would have done just looking around by ourselves or with guidebooks (which only tell half the story at most) and he even managed to keep a thirteen year old and an eighteen year old engaged for over two hours. Darko was very welcoming to our small group of 6. He always only books small groups. He had a lot of historical info for us and toured us throughout the old town of Split. We were brought to venues that specialized in local delicacies as we weaved our way through the city. Most off the beaten track. He even shared recipes of some of the foods we loved! Would definitely recommend this tour! Fantastic evening!
