I had a great time at the "Culinary Kickstart Tour" with Tania (Chryssan). Not only did she introduce me to tasty food typical for Surabaya and East Java, we also had great conversations about many topics. As if that would not be enough, she even invited me to a cultural festival which happend to take place on the day of my tour. She is a very kind person and passionate about what she does. If you are in Surabaya, you must book a tour with Vonny! I did a food and city sights tour and it was the best few hours I spent in Surabaya. Vonny is passionate about her city and it shows. Vonny went above and beyond and catered for my dietary needs. We had a lovely day with Vonny. She took us around Surabaya and explained the importance of the city. Unfortunately the heavens opened and we were forced to seek cover. Vonny took us to the old Dutch Club where there was an exhibition taking place. We were able to enjoy our time there until te rain passed.Vonny is so friendly

This was our second day with Vonny, and we had an awesome time once more. We started off with a visit to a central market to buy some ingredients before heading off to start cooking. Our two menu items were lemper with chicken, and es cendol. This is a participation exercise, and we were quickly put to work on the ingredients - it was great fun to learn about the different ways of preparing them. The food assembled, we were pleased with the outcome - very tasty! We met some of Vonny's family too, including her nephew - the coffee maestro - who demonstrated some different ways to prepare a brew. Again, Vonny was very generous with her time, and it was a pleasure to spend the class with her. The follow up with photos and recipes of what we made was much appreciated. We cannot recommend her highly enough.Learn to cook like a local with Vonny

What better way to get to know about a place you're visiting than to get to know one of its residents. Vonny was a delight to spend time with, and showed us some of Surabaya's highlights. Amongst those was a favourite bakery of hers, and it was great to have her tell us about the different local products - followed by a tasting of course! We also visited a long established drinks company where we were able to sample some of their flavours that were unknown to us before - we recommend the cocopandan. Vonny was extremely generous with her time, and it was great to have such a warm introduction to Surabaya and to make a new friend.Wonderful day with Vonny

Surabaya was the first port on an extended cruise and it couldn’t have started any better. Vonny was wonderful to my wife and me, sharing her knowledge and focusing the tour on our interests while at the same time adding interesting stops of which we were unaware. Our driver, Ms. Heptiningsih, navigated the city and traffic safely while ensuring we saw everything we wanted while spending as little time as possible in the car. Bottom line is that we had a lot of fun throughout. This was also our first experience with Withlocals. Prior to booking we were provided the opportunity to communicate directly with Vonny ensuring we were a good fit with one another. As our main interest was Surabayan culinary, direct communication allowed us to emphasize the culinary “scenes” in which we had the greatest interest. In the end, we would highly recommend Vonny and if we have the opportunity, will tour with Vonny again. Wonderful Surabaya Experience!

We had a wonderful day with Vonny and her family! We started at the pasar where we bought all the ingredients for our recipes. We were amazed by Vonny’s flexibility when we asked where we could buy something specifically and she brought us to the right toko in a heartbeat and advised us. Vonny and her family are masters in hospitality. We felt at home and so welcome during the cooking class in her aunties home. Vonny is a Truelly a wonderfull persoon to take you around Surabaya. She knows her own town very good. And she will take you to places you want to see. Both my parents were born on Java so she took us to the historical places and told us all about it. And ...very important she also looked after our belly😍. She took us to the oldest Lemper bakery and the finest Cendol toko. And also we had some good laughs all day. If you want a good Surabaya experience ask for Vonny Maya. Deze tour met Vonny en haar man was fantastisch! Vonny en haar man zijn locals die veel over Surabaya weten. Ze nemen je mee door de stad heen en laten je leuke plekjes zien. Vonny weet ook waar je moet zijn voor de lekkerste drankjes en snacks. Vonny en haar man namen echt de tijd om ons mee te nemen naar verschillende plekjes in de stad. Vonny took us on a full-day trip in the city of Surabaya. We customized the tour a bit to our liking and combined some hidden gems with culinary tour highlights. Vonny was extremely helpful, had great ideas in tailoring our day. The communication before the trip was prompt and really clear. Our day with Vonny was really relaxed. We could spend as much time as we liked on each stop, there was never any time pressure. We asked about half a million questions about history, local tradition, food and what ever came in our minds and always got great, knowledgeable answers. Thank you for your patience with us Vonny! Pick-ups, drop-offs and drives around were smooth and safe - we didn’t have to worry about parking or transportation for a second, everything was organized perfectly.
