Anna met us promptly at our appointed time & place. (Great communication from With Locals.) After a few pleasantries we were off to explore! Anna has great people skills so sharing many facts about the history of Amsterdam was more like a fun conversation for us than a rote tour. We visited Rembrandt’s guildhall, learned to “read” the motifs on certain building exteriors, saw the merchant houses to match several portraits which hang in the Rijksmuseum (very cool!), learned of the architectural evolution of local canal houses, and learned quite a lot about Rembrandt’s work habits, patrons and personal fortunes. Our 2.5 hours with Anna were a great investment and value for us as newcomers to the city. I highly recommend With Locals and thank Anna for a zippy tour chockablock with fun facts and useful information. Fantastic experience brought Rembrandt to life! Superb Guide!

We met Anna, on time at the meeting place. Anna was very informative on Rembrandt and we found out about his life and were shown buildings associated with his family. We visited the Rembrandt exhibition at the Rijksmuseum the next day, and understood a great deal more about the art ,and the people portrayed in the paintings after Anna's enthusiastic walk and talk. Anna was excellent. She was punctual, pleasant and knowledgeable. We went to the Rijks museum and she added interesting information to the self guided tour . She arranged for lunch for us at an appropriate restaurant. We were a group of five with 1 small child and a tween. She was most understanding of the pace needed for children and pointed out interesting things for them. She was very flexible when our plans went astray (we couldn't get into the Vincent Van Gogh museum). Would definitely recommend her as a guide.Awesome day in Amsterdam

Traveling to Amsterdam with 3 generations of family members (Mom, wife and daughter) that had never been to the Netherlands, I took the advise of some on line sources that suggested a private guided tour of the city and booked 3 hours with Anna to acquaint us with the Amsterdam. I was skeptical (as usual), but it couldn't have worked out better. My family members and I had a great time, the tour was very informative and entertaining. Anna was very bright, knowledgeable and charming. Her passion for her city was remarkable. She reached out to me prior to our trip to ask questions about the group and our interests. All of our expectations were blown away. Not to mention we all survived the tour without incident concerning bicycles (psychopaths on cycle paths). Anna is a bright and upbeat host who is very knowledgeable about Rembrandt (the flawed human being), architecture, and anything Amsterdam. She exhibits professionalism and confidence while simultaneously keeping the tour light-hearted and fun (even as she describes atrocities from Amsterdam’s surprisingly rough past). Anna is also quick on her feet (wear comfortable walking or running shoes) and adept at preventing tourists (like me) from getting mowed down by cyclists who REALLY don’t want to give up their momentum. And they’re everywhere... Because Amsterdam is a truly unique city, I found Anna’s assistance to be invaluable. I highly recommend Anna’s fun and informative tour for anyone who’s interested in Rembrandt, doesn’t want to waste their precious time in Amsterdam studying maps, and is intrigued by foreign places and people. Our tour of Amsterdam with Anna was a highlight of our 12 days in Europe. We'd booked a Viking River Cruise, starting in Amsterdam, cruising the Rhine through Germany and France, and ending in Basel, Switzerland. We booked an extension in Amsterdam, and set up a private tour with Anna. In the time leading up to our trip, my husband experienced some mobility challenges, which required a slower pace and being able to sit periodically. Anna rolled with the new circumstances and accommodated the situation, without compromising the quality of the walking tour. She knows Amsterdam inside and out, and we felt like we got key glimpses into the history of the city, as she talked about specific events and buildings in the various districts we walked through. We experienced the city in a more in-depth way than we would have in a tour group, that is certain. Anna's interest in the subject, and the personal attention she showed, made a big difference to our experience! We had two favorite parts of the tour, first, the lovely district known as the Canal Ring, a half-moon-shaped network of canals with beautifully preserved homes, buildings and businesses, it's truly a special place. The deep sense of history, beauty and devoted care shown in this district is a standout in our travels. If we come back to Amsterdam, I'd love to find a place to stay in this area. It feels both homey, and historic, it's a living, breathing, still vital place. Loved this part of the tour! Our other favorite was the Rijksmuseum, which Anna expertly guided us through. My husband is not a "museum guy," so we wanted to see some highlights, but not get too bogged down. Anna had a lively delivery style and seemed personally engaged with the artists she highlighted, including Rembrandt and Vermeer. I do love art and museums, so my eye was catching a number of things on various walls that she wasn't highlighting. To my delight, everything I asked about, she had a whole background on, and insightful details to offer. I was impressed with the depth of knowledge she has, off the cuff, it made the day really stand out. This tour was a true highlight of our trip! It was authentic, Anna was flexible to our needs, interested in our experience, and I loved her intelligence and witty, dry sense of humor. We hebben bij fantastisch weer een heerlijke wandeling mogen maken door de Jordaan met Anna. Zij heeft ons hele leuke plekjes laten zien, waar je als toerist zo nooit komt. We spent 2.5 hours with Anna at the Rijks yesterday. Although the era of the art in the Rijks was not our favorite we knew we needed some help to make it relatable. Anna, as a cultural expert, art historian and modern woman made these 2.5 hours fly by with her ability to make the religious art come alive with her references to modern culture and a common sense approach to the possible explanations behind the artistic expression. An einem Cafe mitten in der gut besuchten City trafen wir Anna und die Tour mit ihr startete sogleich durch. Zielsicher führte sie uns aus dem Gewühl in die ruhigen Bereiche von Amsterdam und erzählte uns interessante Geschichten und Anekdoten um die Entstehung von Amsterdam und den Grachten. Wir besuchten einen Flohmarkt, bummelten durch die tollen Gassen von Amsterdam und machten eine schöne Pause in einem Cafe, mit einem schönen Aussenbereich auf einer Brücke, bei der wir den Erzählungen von Anna bei einem Cafe lauschten. Neben diversen Fotostopps und einem tollen Besuch in einer der besten Pralinengeschäften von Amsterdam, zeigte uns Anna auch die bunte Vielfalt der Stadt. Der Ausflug mit Anna war einfach wundervoll. Never used a guide in a museum before, but we were so thrilled with our experience with Anna, I can’t imagine doing it without one again. Anna met us on time at the designated meeting place which was very easy to find. She got our tickets for us and entrance was a breeze, she even helped us secure our belongings in a locker. Anna was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much information with us as we navigating the extremely crowded museum to all the highlights like no one was there. We only had a couple of hours to spend there and she really made perfect use of the time hitting all the important works, explaining the timeline and sprinkling in lots of interesting information and stories along the way. Anna was charming and the experience was both entertaining and education.Great way to tour a museum!

The tour started on time at the Cobra Cafe. Mrs Shamaal walks with a cane and Anna made arrangements with museum staff to use the street level lift. As a registered guide she guided us through the galleries oftentimes attracting other patrons straining to overhear her insights. Clearly the Rijksmuseum is to large to see in week let alone in a morning so we focused on the evolition from religious sponsored paintings to those desired by the burgeoning merchant class. We soon found ourselves at the gallery of honor. Anna was able to compare and contrast the styles and choice of subject matter of the masters in a meaningful way.
