Markella was a dream. Our family of 7 toured the Acropolis and its slopes with Costas on our recent trip to Greece. The whole experience was excellent. When we first booked, we weren't clear on how to get Acropolis or museum tickets, or for what time, based on the time of our WithLocals tour. Communication with Costas was quick and simple, though; he corresponded with us immediately and sent us in the right direction. It all lined up perfectly. We met Costas right in front of the entrance to the slopes and the tour proceeding seamlessly. It was a hot day, but Costas made sure we stayed in the shade on the way to the top, stopping under trees to show us the ruins and teach us the history. Part of our party was also just coming in from a delayed flight, and they were able to meet right up with us (on the slopes), as Costas helped us with a meeting spot. As a native, Costas knows his Greek stories well. He was very informative and presented it all in a manner that was historic, interesting, and entertaining. He kept us all engaged (ages 20-57) for the entire tour, bantered with us personally, and made sure to take some sweet family pics of us with prime backdrops. We spent about 2 hours on the slopes and summit, which were spectacular (I highly recommend a hat for the sunny summit!), and about 1 hour in the museum. In the museum, Costas navigated us through the most interesting parts, so that we felt like 1 hour was plenty of time for a good taste of the exhibits. This tour is a must-do for any first-timers in Athens, and Costas is a great tour guide. I highly recommend a tour with him.Fantastic tour of the Acropolis!

Evanthia contacted me right after I booked our tour. She even texted me to say I had to purchase the acropolis & slope tour and the museum tickets separately and what website to go to. She also texted us a meeting place. Evanthia’s vast knowledge of the history of Acropolis and all the surrounding monuments is astounding! Evanthia was even a very good sport when we (my 20 yr. daughter and I just stepped off a 10 our flight with a 3 hour layover from our first 2 hr flight at 9am) and told her we were extremely exhausted so Evanthia keep us at a great pace in order to see the entire museum. Needless to say she didn’t race through to get it all in. She was thorough but brief. One of the BEST tour guides around!!

Booking a private tour guide was an excellent way to make our visit to Acropolis special. We could not be more satisfied with Markella. She did a wonderful job setting the stage and equipping us with the base knowledge needed to fully enjoy the temples. She is so immersive with her storytelling and pleasant to have conversation with. What a great morning my wife and I had touring the Acropolis, the Parthenon and the Acropolis Museum with Markella last week. She is obviously very passionate about the history of her great City and I think I learnt more about that history, and particularly this area, than I ever did studying Greek history at school. Markella's commentary and delivery was personal, fascinating and informative. We both came away with a great respect and understanding of what we were viewing. 100% better than any recorded self-guided tour. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens. Best to start early too, in order to avoid the heat and cruise ship masses, while there are still some shaded areas to retreat during the tour. A great tour, but start early if you can.

We had a fantastic tour of the Acropolis & Acropolis museum with Costas!! We went early at 8am & Costa paced everything perfectly so the children were both kep interested but not having to walk too fast in the heat. Costa has in depth knowledge of all Greek history & in particular mythology which our youngest is really interested in. Our family had a wonderful tour of the Acropolis and museum with Costas. He was a brilliant guide, weaving together history, Greek myth and legend to bring alive the beautiful ancient temples, theatres and other buildings. Costas has a prodigious grasp of Athenian history and was a highly articulate and interesting guide, happy to answer any questions and keeping our children (aged between 9 and 16 years) engaged. Costas paced the tour very well, giving plenty of time to take in the buildings, ruins and views and always choosing a shaded spot as the heat of the day increased. At the Museum, Costas gave us a fantastic overview, carefully choosing an array of particularly interesting objects. We highly recommend Costas if you are looking for a guide who is very professional and has a wonderful and deep knowledge of Greek history, politics and myths. Costas really was able to bring the Acropolis alive for us! A wonderful way to explore the Acropolis!

Our group of 5 had a wonderful visit to the Acropolis with Adrianna. She was not only informative but also entertaining. She was very good with pre-tour communication and gave us tips for securing entrance tickets, which I had not realized were not included. I highly recommend the private format for a tour as you then have more flexibility in movement. Arianna is a great guide. Highly recommended

We genuinely enjoyed Evanthia and her tour around Athens. She made a great effort to ensure we were all engaged, from a buff like me to a jaded 16yo girl. We covered a lot of territory, from the classical sites to off the beaten path. We had originally wanted to get up to the Acropolis, but bad timing on my part prevented our ability to get tickets. We wanted a private tour for four people the day after our daughter’s wedding on what ended up being the hottest day in Athens so far this year. HOT 🥵 Alexandros took care of everything and took great care of us. We went into the air conditioned museum and learned about fascinating parts of Greek history and the museum would have meant so much less without Alexandros. Then onto the climb to the Acropolis. We stopped in shady spots along the way for him to explain what we were seeing. There is so much more there than we realized. Alexandros made it all very interesting and he has a great personality. Markella was an excellent guide for our tour of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. She not only shared key historical anecdotes and key facts; she also did a great job with the wide range of questions from adults and 5 kids/tweens/teens alike. Markella went out of her way to make things fun and engaging for the range of ages (9-15 years old for the kids), including having activities that would help make the history come alive for them. She allowed the 9 year old to act as her aide to share his knowledge of Greek mythology, which he particularly enjoyed. Markella also checked in with the adults to ask if we thought a snack stop was needed for the kids during the transition from the Acropolis to the museum. When the kids’ energy was flagging, she pulled a couple of rabbits from her hat with key features from the museum that they particularly enjoyed. All of the adults (there were 4 of us) really enjoyed Markella’s breadth of knowledge and appreciated gaining her perspectives on the excellent design of the museum, all of which enhanced our experience. Alex gave us a fantastic tour of the Acropolis museum & site. We were with our 3 teenage children & we really enjoyed it. We started in the museum which I would recommend as it’s laid out to mirror the actual site & he spent lots of time with us there explaining the different buildings and interesting artefacts & telling us some v entertaining myths associated. He is obviously extremely knowledgeable but with a very light & entertaining style which made the tour v relaxed. He then brought us through the site itself and nicely reminded us & brought together whet we had learnt & seen in the museum which really brought the ruins to life. He was extremely patients and gave us lots of time & we even had time to stop for coffees and ice creams and a lovely chat about Athenian life between the museum & the site. Costas was very easy to communicate with before the tour; he met us promptly at our prearranged meeting point. The tour of the Acropolis included an initial 2hrs in the Acropolis Museum, during which Costas took us through the history of the site and proved to be incredibly well informed on every aspect; he then took us up on to the slopes of the Acropolis for an hour to show us the real thing. We only had 1 full day in Athens before boarding a cruise ship, so wanted to make the most of it and see as much as possible. We. ‘chose’ Arianna as our guide - from a good selection of local guides - based on Her specialist knowledge of art history. - and also because she has the same name as our daughter ( who coincidentally also studied art history) Arianna met us at the hotel and we had the most wonderful time with her, we wanted to explore the acropolis first- and her expert knowledge, guidance- and humour made our time in Athens even more memorable than we had hoped for.
