My wife, two children and I visited the colosseum and surrounding areas for 3 hours with Eleanor. She gave us a lot of really entertaining information as we went round and was very engaging for us and the children. She clearly knew the most efficient routes and we got to see everything without wasting any time. We had such a wonderful tour with Paolo around the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. It was a hot day and prior to the tour I could tell our girls, 11 and 7 were worried they’d get hot and bored but Paolo did a wonderful job telling them stories to keep them engaged. He had photos and videos to bring it all to life and found lots of places for shade to keep us cool. My husband and I had done this tour 10 years ago but I learned so many new things from Paolo. Having been to the Coliseum years ago BK (before kids), we thought it would be more meaningful and engaging for the kids (10 and 14) to have our own guide. Pietro took us on a truely immersive tour of the Forum Romanum and the Colosseum. His knowledeg, his entertaining stories and the help of the ipad really brought the past alive. Our three hour tour of the Colosseo, Palentine Hill and the Roman Forum with Valentina on our first day of a two week "Italian Roman Holiday" was an excellent way to start the vacation for the foursome of us. Valentina was amazing in knowledge and history. We (I) learned more in one hour inside the Colosseo with Valentina, than all the previous trips there and reading National Geographic growing up! The Palentine Hill was much larger than I had appriciated and Valentina pointed out various details in The Forum (i.e games carved into steps temples converted to churches, etc. ) that I had either missed or was lacking in insight by other tour guides on visits to other ancient Roman cities thru out the Mediterrean. As the day went on, we got to know Valentina more as a person, than "just" a WithLocal Guide. . . a true bonus, by the end of the three hours, of a hot June day, we had more of acquaintances, than just guide and tourists . . . . She then communicated frequently with me until the day of the tour. Despite having done another tour earlier in the day, she was still full of energy and enthusiasm. Her tour of the Colosseum and Forum was informative in the most entertaining way, she had the most fascinating stories to keep us constantly interested for the duration of the 2.5 hour tour. Cecilia reached out ahead of time to suggest that the best time to see the Colosseum was in the morning before it got too hot, and boy am I glad she did -- the day ended up being a scorcher. We had my 80 year old mother-in-law with us, and Cecilia was able to tailor the tour of Palantine Hill to limit the amount of climbing -- we skipped walking through the Forum, and instead she talked to us about the Forum as we admired it from above. Paolo was easily the best tour guide we’ve ever had. He was personal, charismatic, and ready to assist our needs. We LOVED his stories. We enjoyed a wonderful tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and surrounding area with Pietro! He was very knowledgeable and we learned so much in the tour. Our tour of the Colosseum with Cecilia on May 6th was terrific. To minimize the discomfort of two members in our group, that had sensitive knees, she walked at a moderate pace and built in adequate rest stops throughout the tour. Cecilia’s knowledge and enthusiasm made the Colosseum come to life by providing fascinating insights into its history and architecture. As we walked through the Colosseum, Cecilia pointed out details/areas we would have missed and patiently answered all of our many questions. She even brought along illustrations to help us better visualize how the Colosseum looked and operated when built versus how it appears today. Due to the steep incline and uneven path with cobblestones we declined touring Palatine Hill. However, that did not deter Cecilia, she found an area where we could sit and continued the tour using her illustrations...what a professional. Paolo organised a phenomenal tour of the Forum and the Colosseum for one adult, a history-buff 12 year old, and a superhero-fan 9 year old. He managed to keep us all entranced for 3 hours, in high heat and big crowds. Paolo had put a great deal of thought into how to run the tour, and adapted along the way as the kids asked him for story after story of Rome. He was personable and patient, and very understanding about the kids need for toilet stops and shade. I would recommend Paolo's tours without reservation. When my husband and I decided to come to Italy, we did our own thing due to my physical limitations. We decided to see both the Vatican and Colosseum. We liked the looks of Carlo; he smiled with his eyes as well as his whole face. We booked him for both experiences. He allowed this religion teacher to go down rabbit holes in the Vatican. Walked at our pace in both places. He was very knowledgeable about both places and very passionate about history.
