As we walked through the area she provided many interesting facts on the history of the first neighborhood of Rome. We visited archaeological sites, beautiful streets and unique shops. Valentina is so warm and knowledgeable! It was a real treat to see a different side to Rome and view it thru a non-tourist lens. We saw neighborhoods and sites we would not have gone to otherwise. As we had both been to Rome before (albeit an awfully long time ago), we wanted to avoid all the tourist traps and find out some more unusual things about Rome, and this tour certainly fitted the bill. Valentina was charming, knowledgeable and personable, and showed us some areas of Rome we would never have gone to, and some gorgeous architecture. We also learned how to drink from the many public fountains, the "nasone" and what the street names meant, really bringing the environment to life. Although the nasone clearly takes some practice as we both ended up drenching ourselves the next day when we tried it! I also appreciated that it was just us on the tour - a larger group of course would be more cost effective, but it was nice not to share with strangers and to focus on the things we were interested in. Valentina was responsive and happy to answer all our questions and to also give me a quick vocab master class on words that I had forgotten or didn't know. The only reason I haven't give it full marks is that the website stated the tour lasts for 2.5 hours, starting at 5.00. It started at 5.15 (not a problem, things do happen) and lasted until 7pm, which is 1 3/4 hours by my calculations. We were enjoying it so much we would have loved it to go the full time frame (and it also feels quite expensive with the shorter duration). We weren't expecting to use public transport and were grateful to Valentina for helping us obtain the tickets etc as we did have some issues (26000 steps on the day of our tour, we were grateful for the brief respite of a tram/metro seat!). I would recommend With Locals and would also suggest that you clarify the duration of your tour before you start so you know what to expect. The meeting place we went to was very much out of the way and not easy to get to - I think that could have been improved. Valentina was lovely and I would recommend her as a very knowledgeable and engaging guide.Interesting and informative

Have you ever visited a friend in a different city and had them show you around their part of town? Valentina is a lot like that, only smarter. We were in Rome only for three days and just wanted to breath in the atmosphere of Rome apart from the tourist areas. Luckily, we found this website and the tour that Valentina composed herself and offers exclusively. It is true that a bus ticket is necessary and we spend a short time on the tramway and the metro, but it was not too long and we used the time to shoot her with all the questions we had about roman/italian lifestyle or the areas that we visited. She is professional and competend, especially in the area of arts, as we discovered. When we come back to Rome, we will try to book another tour with her. Totally recommended! Worth every penny

This was my first time using with locals. I had a very short trip with my wife to rome and did not have enough time to just walk aimlessly around the less touristy districts, so I decided to have a guide give us a quick introduction to monti (where our hotel was) and Testaccio. Valentina was very knowledgeable and really has an eye for art. She showed us key points in each district and history/fact lessons along the way. I really enjoyed our short but efficent time with her. She taught us how to use the subway system to get from district to district too. It definitly helped. With our goal of staying away from touristy spots and gain the most of our 2 day stop over in Rome.Monti/Testaccio

We really enjoyed seeing these two districts in Rome with Valentina. We loved the buildings in the Coppedè district and enjoyed hearing the history of them. My partner and I also really enjoyed the Monti district and returned there the next day for some shopping. Had a fantastic dinner at a restaurant in Monti that Valentina recommended. Valentina was friendly, knowledgeable and very responsive to communication when I needed to make changes to the booking. Would highly recommend! Very enjoyable tour!

Valentina was simply lovely. she took on board my girlfriends interests in fashion and art and tailored a specific tour around some real hidden gems. We only had an afternoon (on a flight layover), so we needed a guide who could cover aspects of a Rome in that time. Valentina was very knowledgeable, intelligent and fun. This was well worth the time and money. You can tell she has a strong education (PhD I believe) in art history as she was filled with all sorts of facts and stories. 4 hour whirlwind tour: was great!

We enjoyed our afternoon with Valentina exploring parts of Rome off the regular beaten path of most tourists. While Valdentina did arrive late to our tour, she called to let us know she was running late. It also worked in our favor as we took advantage of some down time between tours to rest our legs. Valentina also spent time after our scheduled "end time" to compensate for being late, which we appreciated. We had a lot we wanted to see and Valentina did a great job with fitting it all in. She started an hour later than we initially planned which was a shame as it meant we wasted some potential shopping time waiting around but she was very friendly and informative. The tour was great! I really enjoyed it from the beginning till the end, it was full of rich and exciting information about the districts we visited and their fascinating stories. This tour included some places that even some Romans doesn't know about ! I really fell in love with Monti district, the story behind it and its atmosphere. Valetina was super generous and helpful as she suggested me places to go to eat and answered alot of questions i was hesitating about. She was also so flexible with time, she didn't rush things out and she has good sense of time management as well. Valentina is a sweet lady. She knows a lot of historic stories that are worth hearing. She brought me to two areas outside the touristic highlights. The first area was very beautifull and had a surprising history. The second area was less interesting. It was a standard neigbourhood in Rome. She showed me around because she wanted to tell me about the history behind the street name signs. The stories were nice, but since there was not much interesting to see she might as well tould me these stories over cup of coffee in a café.nice but not spectacular
