Sebastian was knowledgeable, personable and professional. He imparted a lot of information on the history of Cape Town – much of which we had not known - in an accessible way. Sebastian has a great sense of humour which helped keep things light. We walked and drove and he pointed out many details along the way which we would never have noticed. He was punctual and courteous and always mindful of our surroundings keeping us at ease. He kindly dropped us off at the Waterfront and followed up by sending us recommendations for restaurants going over and above what we expected. A great guide that we would highly recommend to others. My boyfriend and I wanted to take a tour of Bo Kaap and Woodstock to learn some history and the city's hidden gems. Gilbert exceeded all our expectations: it was supposed to be a 3-hour tour, but in 5 hours he showed us so much more. He was an excellent guide, it felt like we were in a documentary. Gilbert is very knowledgeable about the history of his city and tells it with such passion and enthusiasm. Highly recommended!! Thanks Gilbert. We are a family of four (parents, two daughters 17 and 10) who took a Cape Peninsula day trip with Sebastian. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this to anyone who is considering it. Sebastian told us about the city and suburbs as well as the history and geography of the area as we headed further south. He was happy to answer any of our questions about what we were seeing, about South Africa, or about the Cape in particular. We made multiple stops and Sebastian made sure to get some family photos of us at different locations. We never felt rushed, we had enough time at each spot to explore, and it was lovely to learn more about Cape peninsula from and expert *and* not have to worry about driving ourselves. Our family (parents plus 17 year old and 10 year old daughters) spent our first afternoon in Cape Town walking and eating and learning with Christopher on the 10 Tastings of Cape Town experience. It was a great way to start our time in South Africa. Right up front, Chris told us that there were no questions or topics that would be off-limits, and we really enjoyed our few hours with him. We ate some wonderful food and learned about the culinary and cultural melting pot that is Cape Town, as well as a lot more about South African history. He arranged vegetarian food for us, which was delicious. We sampled Cape Malay food in addition to some Dutch derived goodies and traditional foods. A wonderful afternoon of history & eating

We had an amazing tour with Gilbert, perfect for our first day in Capetown! We were introduced to many local food specialties including bunny chow, chakalaka, rooibos tea, the famous gatsby sandwich and more. Come hungry!! Gilbert was incredibly generous with his time, showed us many of the city sights and gave us a huge dose of South African history…from the Dutch East Indian Company to the Boer wars to how apartheid and its racial classifications impacted his family and the local communities, leaving a legacy that continues to shape politics and socioeconomic conditions today. We booked a private tour with Gilbert based on previous reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Gilbert personalised the tour based on our requests, but still managed to pack in an enormous amount of history and current affairs as we walked around the city from eatery to eatery. He kept a group of adults, young adults and teenagers enthralled for four hours. This tour ended up going above and beyond all of our expectations. It was our first tour and a great intro to Cape Town/South Africa and was truly one of our most favorite excursions from our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our walking food tour with Gilbert. He gave us lots of background information about the city as well as the food. The quantity of food was enough for five full meals. We started later than the designated time so Gilbert suggested we see the Mandela exhibit at City Hall. And rather than dashing off, he was generous enough of his time to allow us to take a quick walk through a wonderfully curated short exhibit of Mandela and his years in Cape Town. But that set the stage for the rest of the tour. Gilbert shared his personal story of his family and how they were displaced from District 6 and resettled in the Townships being offered for relocation. Gilbert shared vintage photographs of the District and overlaid where appropriate what stood at which spot and how the area is being rebuilt. The transition into Woodstock was an eye opener. Both from the beautiful street art work and the history of the neighborhood. We ended the tour on a different note. Having been to the Old Biscuit Mill, Gilbert offered to walk us to Observation. An area undergoing gentrification and with a totally different vibe. We said goodbye with him recommending a restaurant for lunch for us. A badly needed respite from all that walking. Certainly a very entertaining afternoon. Something we’d never have done on our own and we leave richer, knowing more of the history and background of Cape Town. A walk through history unwtitten

We had two great tours with Gilbert in Cape Town: the food tour and the Off the Beaten path tour. Both tours showed a different side of Cape Town: the food tour was in the city center and involved 6 stops at local eateries. The 2nd tour was in two of the local neighborhoods that tourists don’t commonly visit. Gilbert is a great storyteller - his family grew up in these neighborhoods and he is old enough to share his experiences of how South Africa has (and hasn’t) changed over the past generations. This a totally different level of experience and understanding from the more typical tourist stuff (Robbin island, Cape Point, beaches). Gilbert is lively, friendly, lots of fun, and very generous with his time. Highly recommended!Get to know Cape Town for the locals

Just home exhausted (and full) from a very enjoyable tour with Gilbert. We were a group of 8 (with 2 local white South Africans) 6 of us had grown up in Ireland. Gilbert’s own family history and story were very informative and helpful to guide us to understand the complexities of the social infrastructure in SA. The culinary treats from across the communities in capetown were in places off the usual tourist trail ( our SA friends would have never gone to them outside of this tour !) Every place we went to gave us delicious food and as a result we cancelled our evening dinner plans as we couldn’t resist the food we were given and we left very little behind ! The highlight was Gilbert’s Malva cake ( made by Gilbert himself! ) according to our SA expert it was the best he’d ever tasted! High praise indeed🤩. Can’t recommend this tour highly enough - our entertaining and engaging host certainly deserves the 5 star reviews I read prior to booking the tour… Culinary and cultural extravaganza!
