We absolutely loved Gustavo. My husband and I are in our early 30s and with so many tour guide options it was hard to choose based on a few reviews and bios. But rolled the dice and we couldn't have felt luckier. Gustavo knows so much about his country and the wine and food. He's very genuine and a fun person, never felt like conversations were forced. The restaurant in Douro was incredible. He took care of us so well. So don't hesitate just book him. Best day in Porto!

We had a wonderful 3 hours with Gustavo. We laughed and just enjoyed a casual walk around Porto. We were able to see many of the things on “my list” by just walking with him. He shared so much that we would have never been able to learn without a guide. He is super knowledgeable but shared all of that in a very casual and relaxed way. My husband hates big tours and doing this type of experience is soooo worth it. Book Gustavo- you will love your time with him!!!Gustavo is awesome!

My family of 4 had the pleasure of taking a trip to the Douro Valley with Gustavo. We began by visiting the Croft vineyard, enjoying the views, and having a quick port tonic. We meandered through the valley and stopped at a few scenic points before heading to lunch at a traditional Portuguese restaurant that he recommended. Gustavo was very friendly, knowledgeable, and treated us as friends as he explained the history of Portugal and the valley. After lunch we stopped at Quinta da Pacheca for a wine tasting, with the wines picked by Gustavo himself. I would recommend this tour to all and cannot give Gustavo a high enough rating. Gustavo took the four of us Americans (two New Yorkers and two San Franciscans) in his excellent Mercedez Benz from Porto to the Duoro for the day. It was very hot, but the car was comfortable. He is beyond knowledgeable about all things Portugal, especially its political and social history. He took us to two wineries and an exceptionable place for lunch run by locals that was authentic, traditional cuisine, modest in price. Every minute spent with Gustavo was enlightening and informative. We can't recommend him enough! Great Day in the Duoro Valley with Gustavo

We saw all of the beautiful Douro valley with fantastic weather! Gustavo was engaging and very knowledgeable of the various wines of Portugal and recommended a great local restaurant with authentic Portuguese cuisine. The 2 wineries we visited were gorgeous and outstanding! We purchased some wine after a relaxing wine tasting on the patio at Pacheca Winery. If you are into wine as much as we are this was a great tour. Gustavo was very accommodating with our time schedule and got us back to our cruise ship with time to spare. Since the valley is a bit far from the port other guides we not willing to take us on this tour so use Gustavo if you decide to book this. I picked Gustavo for our family visit to Douro valley based on his excellent reviews. I asked to start at 10 am instead of 9 am which he agreed to. At the start he stated " it was absurd to start at 10 am" to which one of my daughters responded that we like sleeping in and he said "well I don't work past 5". I did not address this to avoid it being awkward for my family for the next few hours. He did not give an overview of the itinerary. He got better and gave excellent descriptions of the wine and port, region, history, great lunch restaurant, wineries and had great spots to take family pictures. We did not have a boat trip which I forgot to ask about and he did not mention why/why not we were not doing it. It really felt that he did not want to do this tour for us and I was trying to navigate and ensure my family was comfotable and relaxed. Perhaps he was having a bad day.The experience could be better..

Gustavo took us on an excursion that will live in our memories for years to come . He went the extra mile to pick up a birthday cake and book a VIP picnic at the winery to make a special birthday surprise. I wanted to see Porto off the beaten track and Ruben delivered. I saw all of the main sights with my tour group. I wanted to see the city from the point of view of the locals. The added benefit was no crowds. Ruben also gave me a brief history of Portugal. Very interesting. Be prepared to do a lot of walking including many, many stairs and hills. Mein Frau und ich hatten einen tollen Tag im Douro-Tal mit Gustavo, der uns in seiner komfortablen Mercedes E-Klasse sicher und souverän zu den schönen und ruhigen Orten im Douro-Tal brachte. Dank seiner Auswahl mussten wir uns nirgends die Orte mit anderen Touristengruppen teilen, meistens waren wir sogar für uns allein. Am beeindruckendsten war es, ganz allein auf der großen Terrasse von „Quinta do Seixo“ (Sandemann) zu sitzen und bei einem leckeren Port Tonic die Ruhe und den wunderbaren Blick auf den Douro zu genießen. Auch die spätere Weinprobe auf dem Weingut „Quinta da Pacheca“ konnten wir in aller Ruhe im Schatten von Bäumen genießen. Am Ende der Tour hat Gustavo noch einen außerplanmäßigen Abstecher nach Amarante gemacht, wo wir erneut ohne andere Touristen den Blick von der malerischen Brücke genießen und die dortige Kirche besichtigen konnten. Gustavo gibt einem das Gefühl, nicht von einem klassischen Tourguide begleitet zu werden, sondern von dem „Freund eines Freundes“ (zumindest zu Beginn kennt man sich ja nicht), der einem seine Heimat zeigt und dabei mit seinem Wissen nicht nur über das Douro-Tal und den dortigen Weinanbau, sondern auch über Portugals Geschichte beeindruckt. Gleichzeitig zeigte er auch großes Interesse an dem, was aktuell in Deutschland passiert. Es wurde nie langweilig während der ganzen Tour.Ein toller Tag mit Gustavo im Douro-Tal

Gustavo transferred us from Porto to Lisbon so we could make the most of our travel day. We stopped in Coimbra and Batalha. Gustavo was knowledgeable, energetic, interesting, funny and friendly. A really interesting tour and walk! Beforehand, Ruben asked what we wanted to see and later admitted that it was a tough challenge — to surprise and engage three adults who actually live in Porto! We wanted to discover something unusual, things we hadn’t seen or heard about before. And Ruben managed to surprise us! He told the stories in a fascinating way, gave a mini history lesson for those of us who needed it (that would be me!), and pointed out little details we’ve passed by many times without ever noticing! My husband and I landed in Porto the day that Portugal and Spain experienced a complete blackout. We were scheduled to do a five hour city tour with Gustavo and he was going to graciously pick us up from the airport. Thank goodness he had our flight information because he was waiting for us when we got off the plane with a sign with our names. If it wasn't for him picking us up from the airport we would've wasted four hours, trying to get a taxi during the blackout, Even though everything was shut down, he still drove us around to see some of the sites in his car. When he dropped us off, he said if the power came on, he would come and pick us up from our Airbnb and finish the tour which he did. He was easy to be around very knowledgeable and accommodating. He asked us what else we wanted to see the second day and one of the things was visiting the FC Soccer Club, which he took us to. We invited him to dinner that evening and he took us to a local place and ordered for us. Highly recommend Gustavo. I feel like he's a friend of ours now.Gustavo Saves The Day

Gustavo took us on a lovely drive through the beautiful Douro Valley and shared many interesting facts about the agricultural history of this region of Portugal. Gustavo is a witty and wonderful conversationalist, quite knowledgeable about his country’s history, and he speaks excellent English. The scenery throughout the drive was spectacular, and we had opportunities to take pictures and ask questions, and every stop along the way was delightful, as was the wine we tasted. We also stopped at a traditional Portuguese restaurant in a quaint and charming little village and ate a delicious meal accompanied by some excellent wine. My wife and I booked our Douro day trip at the last minute, and it proved to be a great decision. Our guide and driver, Rui, was fantastic and made our tour very enjoyable. We were picked up on time and the ride to the Douro Valley seemed short as Riu filled the time with local knowledge of Porto and surrounding areas. Once in the Valley, we found Riu to be extremely interesting with facts and history along the drive. Riu was also very flexible as we adjusted our tour based upon our interests. The best thing about Gustavo is how he seemed like a friend rather than a guide who was showing us around. He also tailored the programme to suit our interests, including ditching a lunch venue at the last minute when he found out my preference for modern cuisine. My wife and I had a fantastic day with Gustavo touring the Duoro Valley from Porto. He picked us up on time from our hotel in a late model Mercedes which was immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. His knowledge of the area and of Portuguese history and culture made our conversation as easy as talking to a friend, which now Gustavo is. We mentioned our interest in tasting dry wines and we visited two wineries with tasty offerings of both dry and sweet. He also stopped off at several view points to showcase the valley. We took great interest in watching a river cruise ship pass through a very large lock, a rise of perhaps 10 meters or more. We stopped at a lovely family owned restaurant for lunch and it was so good! We had the goatling with rice for two people and it fed us all. Gustavo’s wine recommendation was perfect! It was a full day of pleasant conversation and we learned a lot about the Douro and Portugal. Thanks, Gustavo! I will recommend him to everyone I know coming to Porto.Go With Gustavo!

Gustavo is very knowledgeable and we learned a lot on this trip. The scenery was breathtaking, and Gustavo showed us local places where the tour buses don't stop. Since surprisingly, there was no traffic on the way back to Porto and we arrived earlier than we had anticipated, Gustavo drove us around Porto and showed us some sights that we had not been to before. Overall we are very happy with Gustavo and our tour.amazing day in Douro Valley
