This was the perfect way to start my visit to Valencia! Maria was such a lovely, knowledgeable guide. She clearly knows and loves the city well, and I really enjoyed hearing some of the history and the different kinds of architecture. Not to mention, all of the spots Maria chose for food were fabulous! Great variety of local places and stands at the central market. Cannot recommend this tour with Maria highly enough! Do it!! The initial connect with Cesar over Whatsapp was very pleasant, it was very easy to find him at the meeting point. We started at the Fresh Market where he showed us some nice tastings that we would have never stopped for. Then we continued to a tapas shop accross the square were we had Paella and fried shrimps. We continued to see a few more sights, and also the Silk Exchange where Cesar shared interesting historical facts. Overall Cesar is a very friendly guide, he could be a bit more sharing on own initiative but we consider this a minor point. Lovely tour through Valencia

We are very happy with the experience with Jose. It was lovely to meet and take a walk through his neighborhood to his home together. A great way to start. When at Jose’s place, we were ready for action. But the whole experience was truly Spanish - relaxed, with no rush, no stress. Some dishes were prepared ahead of time, others we made together from scratch. It was a perfect combo of cooking, tasting, chatting, learning, and laughing. We were a family of three visiting Jose, with a six-year-old daughter. Jose did a great job engaging her as well. She got into the flow and wanted to help more and more towards the end. We had an amazing experience, and we highly recommend Marcos. We felt like we had a friend showing us around Valencia not just a tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and has excellent communication skills. He made our experience personal like we were part of his family. We normally use Rick Steves walking tours form his books or audio guides when we first get to a city, but in this case, we invested a little in getting a guide. What a great tour - I did a private tour so just the 2 of us and we covered everything… from deep questions about history to the best restaurants to go to. Maria was very flexible after I booked the wrong tour initially. My wife and I toured around the Canyamelar - Cabanyal districts for 2 and a half hours. Although we know something of the area, having visited several times before, we were introduced to lots of new aspects of the area, from historical details to architectural examples, street art, museums and restaurants. We had a great tour with Cesar. The communication with the meeting point was all clear and Cesar was incredibly knowledgeable and proud of Valencia. He asked us what we liked and how much local info we wanted to hear, which was great. The food stops were places that were generally used by locals and his recommendations were great. He also explained why he’d chosen the dishes and their connection to Valencia. Cesar has a great sense of humour and it felt as though we were with a friend rather than a tour guide on another booking. Marcos gave us a great tour. He had difficult circumstances with the holiday and the power cut but coped with a smile and adapted the tour to suit us. Loved the history and the architecture. Marcos is easy to talk to and it felt more like a friend taking us around the city. He also sent us a load of information and photos afterwards which was helpful for our next few days. Only comment is that it would have been useful to know that some places were closed on a public holiday as we didn’t realise that and may have chosen a different day - but it was not a problem - only reason for a 9 not a 10. I really love Withlocals and try to use it whenever we are in a new city. Super Tour!

I and my 3 children (8y,10y and 14y) went on a city trip to Valencia and I was looking for a kind of guide who could make a tour interesting for children. After a long search I came across Marcos 'family tour' advertisement. He felt good and so I booked his family tour Valencia. It is always a bit exciting, because certainly the youngest of 8 years old does not speak English (the other does well), except for a few words and therefore there is a degree of difficulty to get such a child involved in a tour where English is spoken. However, Marcos was really fantastic and through patience, interaction, but also by paying attention to each child, he made sure that each child understood his story or question. Of course I sometimes translated a bit for my youngest child. What really gave his tour power, was by working with images and a local tasting. I am a culture and history freak myself, but he also fascinated me with his stories about about the city, which was very educational for me too. In 3 hours he took us through the old city and took us to a number of sights. Marcos fascinated us enormously and we quickly formed a bond. This is very nice. It was a pity that he was going on holiday the next day, otherwise I would have booked another tour with him immediately. Marcos also does customized tours if you want that. His communication is very fast, which we Dutch people really like. If you are looking for a quality guide, then Marcos is the right person for you. Too many our guides simply just tell you facts, such as the date of this building and the name of that building etc.; facts that one forgets within a few hours after the tour. Mimoza instead tells you what Valencia is about, tells you interesting stories about Valencia and explains the background about what you are viewing; stories that linger in the memory.
