Wow! Raffaele is an amazing guide. He met us on our very first day in Naples, and provided an outstanding orientation to the city that he clearly is passionate about. I appreciate his expert knowledge and enthusiasm, and his ability to provide eye-opening details about the history and culture of the city. He even provided us an excellent tutorial in how to identify markers to help identify the era a building was constructed - which was helpful during our own adventures throughout our two weeks in Italy! Raffaele even made time for us to witness the blood miracle ceremony that was in its final day at San Gennaro church - and helped translate the service for us so we could share in the experience with the locals. Raffaele listened carefully to my interests and customized my tour- on the fly- to fit me perfectly. He offered helpful advice on how to see the most in the time we had together and offered a stellar commentary on the sights and history. I wrote Raffaele an introduction about my interests and what I wanted to see and he came up with a lot of places that I wouldn’t have found on my own and provided me with background knowledge regarding the history of Naples and its social structure - among other things, we went to see where Thomas Aquinas and Giordano Bruno lived, visited a church with catacombs that is being restored by a church adoption initiative after the earthquake in 1980 destroyed many treasures of Naples and we even went to see the first baptistery in the western world! Raffaele is very knowledgeable, polite and passionate about what he does - you should get him as your guide, especially if you want something more than a basic tour with the main sights and when you’re interested in specific topics. Naples has so many magnificent sights and places to see, there sure is something for every interest and I’d trust Raffaele to find something for you as well!Customized with special religious sights

Our guide, Raffaele, was amazing. He spoke with so much knowelege and passionabout his home of Naples. He took us to places we would have never seen withouth his guidance. He showed us inderground cripts, inside churches, we saw skulls and leant about Naples history of creating saints. We saw Diego Maradona's lock of hair, had an amazing coffee, say kids playng soccar with a plastic bottle, learnt about paper mache figurines. Thers was so much more. Raffaele walked the streets and introduced us to Naples and its shop keepers too, they all knew him and in the end we felt like we knew the city much better. We, my brother, my sister in law and myself, enjoyed the best tour ever! with Raffaele on 9 August. We always book a private tour wherever we travel to. We would rather pay a little extra and make the most of our time. Raffaele was prompt and was waiting for us at the designated area. He showed us around beautiful Napoli, but he did more than that. He showed us hidden treasures and things we would never have found without his expert guidance. He is an encyclopedia of knowledge on all things Naples. He is a qualified archaeologist and we could not believe his extensive knowledge of dates and historical features. We were so amazed by his knowledge, we started to ask him random history questions and he didn't miss a beat, he knew everything we asked him. Prior to arriving in Europe I sent quite a few messages to Raffaele trying to figure out the best tours that suited us. He was very kind and patient and also gave us other suggestions to do whilst in Italy. Our experience with Raffaele was very easy. He is so likeable and friendly and very professional. He took the stress out of our trip to beautiful Napoli. We had been to Napoli before ( many years ago on our way to Amalfi Coast ) , but unfortunately we listened to others and didn't spend much time in Napoli as we were 'scared' of being pick-pocketed. So pleased we did the tour with Raff as he showed us that Napoli has some soul and we didn't feel scared or unsafe once. I was a little embarrassed that we had felt this way previously about Napoli. During our tour with Raff, we found the people to be very welcoming and happy towards us. Having a private guide was well worth the cost since there are so many unique things to discover in Napoli. We were also able see Napoli in a very efficient way. After our tour, Raff kindly gave us recommendations ( and directions ) for restaurants including best pizza in Napoli. It sure was. My wife and I were with Raffaele for a 3-hour tour of old-town Naples and a day-long tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum. We have had guides in many cities around the world over the years. Raffaele is now number 1 on the list. An archaeologist with very strong historical knowledge as well, he knows everything, and has the enthusiasm of someone who's doing his first tour. We just had the most wonderful day and a half with Raffaele! Yesterday he took us on a walking tour of Naples. Somehow he knew just what would entertain and delight us. His stories were full of historical fact and local legends. He loves his native city so much! We spent today with Raffaele at Pompeii and Herculaneum. He is a professional archeologist who has excavated at Pompeii and worked with objects found at Herculaneum, and he knows pretty much all there is to know about these two sites. Plus, he really feels the poignancy and deep sadness of their destruction and the loss of life that occurred there so long ago. Raffaele couldn’t be smarter, friendlier, or more considerate. I took Raffaele for a 3 hours tour on my one day trip to Napoli from Rome and he made me fell in love with the city. He is an archeologist, very knowledgeable of the city's history and as such gives you a great perspective of what there was and there is today, showing many places I wouldn't have noticed otherwise . As I was not familiar with the city and had only one day, he came to the train station to meet me and made my life easier. I’ve been looking forward to experiencing Pompeii for my entire life. Raf met and exceeded all our expectations. We booked a private transport from Sorrento, tour of Pompeii, lunch at a local winery, and subsequent tour of Herculaneum. We started with a pick up that was slightly delayed due to a traffic accident, but everyone worked with us, communicating multiple times to adjust our tours and lunch reservations. Raf had our tickets and we breezed through the line easily. He began our tour like a story teller, making certain we understood both the significance of the site and the history of the surrounding region. It was clear from the onset that Raf not only had a wealth of information to impart but was passionate about his subject. He answered all of our questions thoughtfully and expounded on several areas we were interested in. My only complaint was that that we only had two hours to explore, we certainly needed two weeks and will be back!! The frescos, shops, fountains, stepping stones, orchards, and gardens were just other worldly to see. Raf really brought the previously bustling city to life for us. Lunch was incredible with food and wine from the local winery. The founders grandson took care of us and was happy to tell us the history of the winery as well as the significance of each bottle we tasted. Raf then took us to Herculaneum for a continued picture of the time period of the Vesuvius eruption. Again his compassion and humanity were prominent in his tour. He spoke with care and reverence of the people who perished and who might have survived. Showing us delicate mosaics, architecture, and other Roman creations like sloped roads and areas for baths, shops, and private gardens. The entire day was truly once in a lifetime. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area! The most amazing day!

Firstly, support this amazing local archaeologist instead of other tour companies. If you are considering other options...DON'T - Raffaele is the best. He is friendly, funny and welcoming, but also SO knowledgeable and brings Herculaneum to life in such a memorable way - you can really imagine what it was like before. He knows the best routes to visit the most important areas and is so knowledgeable, he answered every question we had with ease. It was just three of us on the tour and we were questioning whether to splurge on a private tour (our dollar is very bad compared to the euro so it was a lot for us), but this was one place we were so happy we did spend the little bit extra. If you only have a short time in the Amalfi area, definitely do this!!! Just an insane look into this event but also life 2000 years ago. Thanks Raffaele!!Worth every penny! RAFFAELLE IS THE BEST!

It was a pleasure to tour Herculaneum in Ercolano with Raffaele. Though it was certainly while discussing a somber topic, the time with Raffaele was informative and entertaining as he returned us to 79 CE while walking us through the Roman-era resort. So many details were pointed out, such as the uses of the various buildings, the day-to-day living of the occupants, and even the ways that the architecture was designed for easy living. We had a great experience at Herculaneum with Raffaele. He was easy to communicate with and conveyed the appropriate solemnity for the site, but also found ways to lighten the mood where appropriate. Our group was mixed with two of us very enthusiastic and asking lots of questions and the other two less engaged but that was not a problem for Raffaele and he gladly answered all of our questions and let the others follow along in their own way. He is clearly experienced and very knowledgeable on the subject of archaeology and of this site. I definitely got more out of the experience for having gone with Raffaele rather than on our own.Wonderful experience with Raffaele

Raffaele was a great find! He was very helpful in getting to Capri with our group of seven and meeting up with him. He organized our transportation on Capri and kept us away from the crowds. He is extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about Capri and Anacapri as well as questions about our tour in Pompeii we had the day before. We went up the chair lift at the top of Anacapri for the spectacular view. I had a vertigo episode due to my Ménière’s disease and he entertained everyone with stories and information while I recovered. He stayed with us until after our tour should have ended and got us set up on a boat to the Blue Grotto which was so fun also. We had a blast and would tour with Raffaele anywhere! What a wonderful tour of this great sight. Raffaele was an excellent guide who made sense of what we were seeing. He imparted his knowledge in an interesting way and bought Pompeii to life for us. We felt overwhelmed by the site at first but soon began to understand the layout of the buildings. We truly loved our time with Raffaele. I doubt we would have even made it into the site without him as the entrance was total chaos on the day we went and his advance purchase of the tickets and navigation of the entry point made it so much easier. Having a private tour guide really made the experience most enriching and much better than being in a large impersonal tour group. His archeological background and intimate knowledge of the site from having worked at the digs provided invaluable depth and insight into the history of Pompeii and the lives of its unfortunate inhabitants. We were able to experience the most important areas of this immense site in the short two hours we spent with him. His tour was the highlight of visit to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. It was well worth the cost. If you plan on visiting Pompeii, do yourself a favor and try to book Raffaele! The absolute best way to see Pompeii

Raf was great. He thoroughly engaged us as a family of four, including our two girls of 14 and 11. He communicated well when booking via WithLocals and in preparation/on the day for meeting up! He was not patronising at all and taught us all so much and we knew a bit before visiting. He was keen to answer all our questions and the 3 hour tour was perfectly broken with chances to sit and talk rather than constant walking/talking. Also took us to Villa dei Mystiere as we had the Plus tickets. He seemed to enjoy that as much as we did! Raffaele was the ultimate in punctual, prepared, and very warm and entertaining. His knowledge and credentials are excellent, and he steered us to all of the best that a day trip to Capri can offer.
