I always say "food is the best way to a countries heart" this tour was nothing but the best, Helena was super friendly, energetic and motherly.(I will explained what I mean about this) The tour began learning some history of Portugal and walking on one of the street known for its shopping amount locals. We visited our 1st stop where we got to try a robust flavor of tuna and sardine from a tin. And yes I can see most asking ew from a tin. But this were no ordinary tuna and sardines. They are soaked in olive oil and other herbs. Truly amazing taste, with a side of white wine. HELENA asked if we ate sardines before and if we were ok with the bones. My wife was wiery about it but Helena even offered to debone them for us cause she use to do thay for her kids (motherly) We got to explore tomorrow of the city and made our way to try PORTUGALS cheese at the Bolhao market. To then try some pastel de nata and finally the cachorrinhos. Super delicious!!! I would definitely recommend this tour with Helena !! Best way to begin exploring Porto

We greatly enjoyed out Tastings of Porto with our local guide Fernando. He helped us understand the historical changes that have occurred here in Porto. As a result, we had a deeper appreciation for the various foods we got to sample and the regions where some of the foods had came from. Our family of four (mom, dad and two adult sons ages 22 and 24) so enjoyed our tour with Miguel. He was a delightful, interesting, fun and friendly ambassador for his beloved city. He took us on a wonderful, off the beaten path, culinary tour in places we never would have ventured on our own. Our eclectic small tastings included, special cheeses, port, figs, fruit, meat pastries, wine, sardines, shrimp, custard tart, specialty hot dog, beer, steak sandwich, prosciutto, olives, bread and chocolates and more... Every stop was a bite or two but it added up over the course of the tour to make us full and happy. We enjoyed learning more about the Portuguese culture and history while getting to know the very special and unique Miguel. My wife and I met Miguel in the city center and walked with him through various neighborhoods in and near the old town stopping in at various locations that showed off Portuguese foods and wines. Each stop showcased different tasty items, from cheeses to meats to seafood to typical Porto sandwiches and, of course, Pastel do Nanta, each with a glass of local wine, port or beer. Miguel was interested in us and interesting to talk to. He was very generous with his time and focused on what we wanted to experience. Mayumi was super accommodating. We messaged her to add additional people 2 days before and she made that process super simple and spent so much time with us exploring and eating! We got way more than our 10 tastings and would 100% recommend this to anyone. We are very much a go with the flow group but she was attentive to any hesitation we had about things we were going to try. Miguel is a very nice guy but given the money this has cost our group - I don't think we got what we expected. I would say there is a misunderstanding about what it needs for doing this job. Helena did a fantastic job curating the foods and drinks that Porto has to offer. From the Pastel, Bolinho, tinned Sardines, the pace and locations were very well thought out. Helena added personal touches to the history of Porto and provided context to important events in Porto and Portugal. The walk around the city was leisurely and the food plenty. More than giving us just a taste of food Porto’s food, João also taught us a little about its history and the significance of its important landmarks. I only wish that at the Mercado do Bolhão instead of having us sit at a table while he got us food he’d taken us along to the food stalls so we would learn which vendors he favored. We had limited time in Porto and booked our food and drink tour with Joao. He was informative, friendly, and gave us a great taste of the city. We never felt rushed. His English was excellent. Mayumi was exceptional! She clearly loves what she does. Not only did I get to explore and taste so many different foods and wine, but she also gave me a history lesson of Portugal and Porto. This was definitely the right way to start my solo stay in Porto. She made dinner suggestions and other places to visit in Porto that were spot on. She knew all the staff/owners of the venues we stopped at and communicated with each of them as we finished one stop preparing to go to the next so that when we arrived, they were ready for us with food and drink. I'm in my early 70s and she planned the itinerary so that it was easy to navigate even in such a hilly city as Porto. She's also a soon to be "certified" wine expert... so, having her recommend and talk about the various wines we tasted was an added plus. I can't say enough good things about this tour and Mayumi! Wow... better than expected!

We loved our food tour with Helena. She is a really warm, special person who felt a bit like family by the end of the tour. She very much wanted to tailor the tour to our tastes and interests. We enjoyed all of our stops but especially our stop at Mercado do Bolhão where we tried various cheeses and beverages, discussed Portuguese cuisine, and my teenage son even stopped to play the piano there. Helena’s knowledge of food, Porto, and the history of Portugal was extensive. We learned so much! We enjoyed every food and beverage we tried. She did a wonderful job of including our (football/soccer-loving) teenage sons, and even ended our tour at a place that not only had wonderful food, but that was also a living shrine to FC Porto. We cannot recommend Helena more highly! Really wonderful walking food tour
