Carlo was an incredible guide. It was a HOT day and Carlo was extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He knew detailed history, but more importantly, he guided us around the basilica in a way to minimize the crowds and wait times and maximize our enjoyment. He read us well—spending more time at locations in the basilica where we had deeper interest and lots of questions and less time on places where we already had some background (we’ve been to the basilica a few times before). From the dome to the crypts, Carlo is a subject matter expert. We found him to have a very sweet and and pleasant disposition. Carlo gave us a great customized tour of the Vatican City to fit our interests and also the special needs we had with our 5 month old daughter. Wow, wow, wow, wow! I am very happy we decided to book with Carlo. I will admit in the beginning I was a bit hesitant (price wise) but I kept going back to the amazing reviews and decided we need to book with Carlo.. and we loved it. Carlo was very informative, attentive, & overall the best guide we've had so far. (We had 3) If it's your first time in Rome please consider guided tours. We did the Colosseum and surroundings tour with Carlo through Withlocals, and it was an incredible experience. Carlo picked up our booking when other guides cancelled and how fortuitous that turned out to be. He communicated well before to arrange the purchase of the Colosseum tickets and to arrange a meet point. He was really personable and interacted well with our three boys to make the tour understandable for them. It was very hot but he ensured we found plenty of shade as he brought the Colosseum to life. He gave us advice for the rest of the trip, and also plenty of restaurants and gelateria’s. He also made himself available via WhatsApp for any other recommendations we might want for the remainder of the holiday. Thoroughly recommend.Excellent tour of the Colosseum

I don't write reviews. For Carlo I make an exception. We've met a lot of tour guides on our trip. Carlo, by unanimous decision of our entire family, was by far the best. Not by a little - by a lot! Lots of guides can be knowledgeable, but not every guide can do it in such an engaging way as Carlo where you can walk through history so intimately. We visited Rome for my son's 10 year bithday with some relatives. We booked Carlo to give us a personalized visit to Colosseum, Palantine Hill and the Forum. All through the three hours he was very inthusiastic and teline many stories and points from the history, making the visit much more worth than just visiting the place on our own. He took into account my son very well and our old ones. He bought us the tickets in advance so we didnt have to wait in lines. We didnt have to queue almost at all during the whole experience. Only maybe 2 minutes to safety check. He also helped me to find out when the Lazio football tickets come for sale when I wanted to buy them in advance and there was no info on their web site. Great contact! He seemed to have a knowledge of a historian and made the past events come alive with his stories. Thanks, MikkoGreat experienced and inthusiastic guide

Phenomenal! Carlo has an incredible knowledge of Roma and shares all of it, or at least as much as you can absorb. He not only ensured we saw everything we wanted, he also assisted with numerous questions related to the tour as well as general travel questions and suggestions. Carlo kept our interest throughout the tours (Colosseum and city walking tour) through interactions, questions, and historical pictorials. My husband and I had the best time with Carlo touring the Colosseum and Palatine Hill. Carlo is incredibly warm and friendly, is extremely knowledgeable about Roman history, and just has a passion for what he does. This tour truly was one of the highlights of our trip to Rome and really because of Carlo's warm nature, understandable explanations, and enthusiasm. We learned so much on this tour that we never would have on our own. We spent the morning with Carlo on a 2.5 hour Vatican Museum tour. We had 4 adults and 4 teenagers. Carlo was on time and very easy to communicate with. He managed our tour through the crowds with ease all while explaining so many interesting facts about what we looking at. His english was excellent. He also gave us tips on how to visit other areas after he left us. We were very pleased with his tour and highly recommend him to anyone looking to use him as a local guide. A master class in the history and grandeur of the Colesium delivered in an easy-to-follow most entertaining way. When our tour was finished, we thought only an hour had passed. As an historian, Carlos is well-researched and knowledgeable on the topic. He aided us in identifying a restaurant and where to go for non-touristy shopping. Dude is fantastic. Not sure what Withlocals is paying him but it isn’t enough. Highly recommend Carlos! Most excellent tour guide!

Carlo was so knowledgeable and kind. I can only recommend him strongly when you have the plan to visit Rome. The first morning he showed us around the Collosseum & Forum Romanum. Told us lot of details about the ancient Romans and made us visualize their world. In the evening we visited the Vatican museums and Sistine Chapel what was a second astonishing experience. Lots of details about architecture, several artists (Michelangelo, Rafael, … ), hidden gems that you would never find out without his insight, … and lots more. The following morning St Peters basilica from top till bottom. What can I say. Overwhelming and astonishing again. We strongly recommend to separate those visits over a couple of days as to do it all in one day will simply be too much to process. We were so overwhelmed of all the impressions that were emphasized especially by all the inside information Carlo provided us. For us there is no doubt about it. Superb 1/2 day tour, Carlo really takes his time to get to know his group and tailored our excursion out on the Appian way to see Fortresses, walls, catacombs and aqueducts. I have been on many tours in many different cities across Europe, but the one provided by Carlo is certainly the best. He shows such enthusiasm and a broad knowledge of the historic as well as the fun activities. He knows how to engage the group and to keep their interest going. Yesterday, we were lucky enough to have Carlo take us on a wonderful guided tour of the Colosseum, Palestine, and Roman forum. Today can you take us on a tour of the Vatican museums, Sistine chapel, and Saint peters basilica. Both days we went over our three hour time, and he was more than gracious to spend another 45 minutes with us each time. Did not want to except extra pay but we encouraged him to for his insight, friendliness, and knowledge of the city.Carlo is the best!!

What a gem. Carlos poured his heart into our visit to the Vatican -- from his extremely patient correspondence with my abundance of pre-arrival questions and to his extremely personalized tour.
