Helena sent us a message that she was ill and Clara would do the tour with us instead. This was by far not the first food tour we did, but extremely expensive (we paid € 233 for the 2 of us) for what was presented. According to the description we were to expect 10 tastings within 3 hours together with insider informations about Porto. Instead we were presented with stuff, every tourist stumbles over immediately, i. e. canned sardines, pasteis de nata and half a roll with pork. Nothing about Porto and after 5 tastings and 2 hours Clara said we were very quick and the tour ended.Total disappointment

Although Sundays are not the best days for a food tour since many places are closed, we only had a small window to do a tour of Porto. Helena made it happen! We were introduced to the local sites and tried local treats with our favorite being the famous Pastel de nata, but we enjoyed all the tastes. Although the Mercado was closed on Sunday, Helena provided suggestions, and the next day, we returned to buy treats and eat at one of the restaurants where we had an authentic Portuguese meal, including the Francesinha, which is a must try. Helena was lovely, friendly and made the tour most pleasant. She is the kind of person you would just love to have as a neighbor! She shared tidbits about the city, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Helena Made It Happen

Helena is the most loving friendly open and caring person that we ever had the pleasure to enjoy a tour with. She took care of our big group and made sure all our needs and wishes in the tour were fulfilled! She is a true local expert with a lot of knowledge and I could’ve not asked for a better guide 100% would recommend Helena and would love to have another experience with her. The only small improvement which has nothing to do with her as a guide but more the agenda of the tour would be to maybe go inside less shops and more restaurants and bar style locations.also I think the price is a little bit high for what you get in food value in the end.The most lovely guide I ever had

We really enjoyed our food tour with Helena. She was a super nice lady who we enjoyed spending the afternoon with. She was knowledgeable and easily answered all questions. She knows a lot about the local history and shared it with us. She even accommodated my super picky niece, who doesn't like to try new things by finding a chocolate muffin she would eat. Great introduction to the city as it was our first day of the holiday. Miguel took us to old established family run businesses for our food tour. Good variety of food offerings, both savoury and sweet accompanied by porto wines and drinks. I liked that he introduced us to Porto's food culture and typical foods of the regions. We loved the food tour. While visiting Porto with my family we decided to take a food tour. I wish we had done the tour the day we arrived. Miguel was great. The tour was a little about food, a little about Porto Portuguese culture, a little history and a little sight seeing. Plenty of wine and discovering some out of the way places. Miguel and I shared musical tastes and favorite bands over Port at our last stop, while looking out at the Duro River with the Luis I Bridge in the fore ground, a beautiful setting. This is NOT a review of a tour with Helena but an opinion of Helena as a person. On the morning of our scheduled tour I had a medical emergency that required an ambulance ride to a local hospital. Helena could have walked out right there since the tour wasn't going to take place. Yet she didn't do that. She took the time to contact my son back home in NY and told him what had happened and what hospital I was being taken to. She was there when the ambulance took me away and later spoke with my son inquiring about my health status. She made a stressful situation less so and for that I'm so grateful and so is my family. Thanks Helena!!!AWESOME PERSON HAS TO BE A GREAT GUIDE.

Helena was a great tour guide. It was a very pleasant contact both in advance and during the tour. We traveled with 16 entrepreneurs and despite the large group, the tour still felt very personal. Helana waited for us in the hotel lobby and customized the tour according to the interests of the participants. 10 stops was an ambitious expedition and we went over our allotted time. But Miguel was unfazed and completed the mission! He clearly knows his stuff and has exceptional relationships with local eateries and specialty vendors. He warned us of certain “tourist trap” places and steered us to the authentic local places. There were 6 family members who took this tour from a cruise ship stop. Miguel is a free-spirit, loves his country and culture and we very much enjoyed connecting with him. There was a LOT of different types of food and drink on this tour and loved all the stops - into a small shop with liquor, herbs and cheese where we did a port tasting with cheese, dried figs, quince and apple jam, a chocolate shop and the local fresh air market where we had several tastings of local cheese, fruit, and seafood. We can’t forget the stop for pasteles de nata, and then a local bar for a view of the bridge and then a local beer or port+tonic. It was an amazing few hours - thanks Miguel for leading us around your amazing city!Lots of food in various city spots

Miguel gave us the best food tour. He loves his city and he took us to so many amazing places to try authentic food from Portugal. We went to local spots and ate some amazing food from cheeses, meats, figs, chocolates, meat pies, and more. We ended with a drink at a very cool bar that overlooks the bridge. Helena is definitely very knowledgeable, however, the way the facts were presented were not very interesting to half of our group. My 10 year old, who has been on other tours (and was engaged in those) kept asking when the tour will end. As a result, I can’t really recommend this tour for anyone with (around) teen age kids.Knowledgeable guide, but not for teens

We had the absolute pleasure of exploring Porto with Jorge as our guide—and what an incredible experience it was! From the very beginning, Jorge made us feel like locals, not just tourists. He’s knowledgeable, passionate about his city, and full of great stories that brought Porto’s history and culture to life. We started our tour at the iconic Mercado do Bolhao and enjoyed hand crafted wines, meats, and cheeses. Later we visited São Bento train station, where Jorge pointed out the beautiful tile work and shared its historical significance. Then we wandered through some of Porto’s most breathtaking cathedrals and churches—each one more stunning than the last, and all enriched by Jorge’s insights. What really set this tour apart, though, were the local spots Jorge introduced us to. We ducked into tiny hole-in-the-wall cafés and visited out of the way old town passageways that we never would’ve found on our own. We so enjoyed our afternoon with professional and conversational Jorge - he immediately “got us” - accommodating our arrival at and introducing us to the Bolhao Market - where we ate and drank several times - cheese and carpaccio and seafood - taking in the sensory experience sprinkled with his personal history visiting the Market (where he obviously knows the owner-vendors). We are city-loving walkers, and Jorge’s content and pace perfectly matched ours - and though we booked this as an introductory food tour, we knew that Jorge would provide more - he shared along our historic and neighborhood route most engaging information about Porto history and sights. We concluded our tour at a locals-only establishment, where we truly could have stayed into the later afternoon for both another meal and more getting to know Jorge - and certainly anther cold carafe of Vino Verde as our table was right next to the gracious restaurant owners who were taking in their late lunch before dinner service. That said, Jorge offered where we might eat additionally later that evening, and we obviously did exactly that - another great culinary, Porto-specific restaurant where we again felt perfectly at home and hosted.
