My husband and I recently spent 4 days in Edinburgh and decided to try out one of these food tours with a local guide. Best money we spent the whole trip! It was amazing! There's something so nice about having a guide wholly focused on you and your interests. Chris was so kind and friendly and excited to share his city's beautiful food with us. He shared a lot of very interesting history on the city and culture of Edinburg and Scotland while introducing us to food we would never have had here in the US. He helped teach us about the amazing taste of haggis and why it's really not as scary as most Americans think. He taught me how to appreciate a good whisky and fed us the best little pies I've ever had. We left our tour fully inspired to try new foods and drinks and with an excellent whisky recommendation to cook with. This tour felt like a family friend was showing us around his home city, proud to share the special parts of it with us. I will absolutely recommend this tour with Chris to anyone looking for a unique experience in beautiful Edinburgh. He left such a wonderful impression on my husband and I. We both agreed that his tour was our favorite part of our whole 8 day trip through London and Edinburgh. Can't recommend Chris's tour enough! A delicious tour from an incredible guide!

My wife and I had a great tour with Chris. He was informative, friendly and adapted the tour based on what we told him we were interested in. Michelle was over the top amazing! We were delayed by about 15 min in meeting up with her due to navigating Edinburgh as it was very crowded with festival folks. She was patient and very understanding. (-: Our ten tastings tour really gave us a great intro to Scots food and culture and even included a dram of whiskey and a dish of haggis! Michelle is extremely knowledgable and personable and we truly enjoyed our time together. Best Tour Ever!

We had a great time with Alec on the food tour. At the beginning, he asked us a few questions to get an idea of our interests beyond food and quickly curated a lot of great sightseeing to go along with the snacks. Alec had great stories and histories to share about the town and kept the entire time very engaging. Because we were moving pretty quick, we also got to go on some bonus adventures, which was very welcomed. The food that was selected was great! If I had one critique, I would say that the back end of the tour where we sampled 4 different pies was a lot all at once. I think I would have preferred we did 1 or 2 pies (because you have to of course!) and maybe another quick stop for something different? However, we had such a great time on this tour and can't recommend it enough!Great Bites and Stories in Edinburgh

We loved our tour with Chris. He was incredibly knowledgeable of the city and took us to some really unique places. I don’t think we ever would have discovered or walked around the places he took us so it was all very fun to do. Chris was such a nice guy and a wealth of knowledge about Edinburgh and Scotland. He was very personable and wanted to tailor the experience to our needs/wishes. I'm not sure that we tasted 10 items but it was close and the food was appropriately Scottish. The tour was good but I would not say good value for the money spent. It was expensive and the tastings were always one item shared between the 3 of us, which included the guide, and out of the same bowl/plate. So 3 people eating one soup or sipping one whisky. Take that as you will. If the food portion of the tour was improved upon it would be a top notch tour. A fun experience

Despite the rain (after all it is Edinburgh), Alec showed us interesting historical sites and bought us lovely treats. I even ate haggis, even though I never thought I would. It was delicious! I especially appreciated how Alec tailored the tour to our interests. For example, he took us to the University of Edinburgh because I told him I had a special interest in colleges. My son & I very enjoyed our tour with Chris. We had just arrived in Edinburgh and met up with him at a spot along the Royal Mile. We chatted a bit about special needs (one of us has a food allergy and the other one is a bit slow moving). Chris was able to adjust the tour to fit our needs. Never having been to Scotland or partaken in traditional Scottish food & drink- we very much enjoyed the whole experience. Chris is very knowledgeable and pointed out many historical facts along our way- Also pointed out some Harry Potter related places and gave us the tips for the rest of our visit. We signed up for the 10 tastings of Edinburgh and "G" was a very pleasant guide. He told us stories and pointed out important locations as we walked down the Royal Mile to a restaurant where we sat down and had our tastings. The food was excellent and the weather was not, so sitting down in one location was a nice change of pace from our usual food tours. After trying foods at the restaurant, we went to get gelato at another location and learned a bit about Greyfriar's Kirk. G repeatedly asked us to tell him about ourselves in order to make recommendations for local shopping, touring, food, etc. A sit down meal with good food

The tour with Chris was one of the best I've ever been on. There were only four of us, including Chris, so the tour was truly personalized. Chris first asked us which preferences we have foidwise and what we are interesded in regarding the history of Edinburgh and choose our route and stops accordingly. The tour was not only informative but also interesting in terms of cuisine. At the end, we received a few great tips for the rest of our time in Edinburgh, so we were well-taken care of. Chris was great, he reached out ahead of time to get information and feedback from us - we weren't very helpful as we mostly just wanted to try different things so Chris was good at coming up with something thay worked great for us. We really enjoyed the mix of trying different foods, but also walking around and seeing different parts of the city with a bit of history attached as well. He also was great at giving us ideas and advice for the rest of our trip. Overall I'd highly recommend this tour and Chris for your next visit.Great Mix of Food and Info

Alec met us in front of the Royal Mile Whiskies right on time and took us on a very interesting and entertaining historic tour through Edinburgh. He was very knowledgeable and a good storyteller, with many details that only locals know. We had three lovely hours with this guide, although our expectation was that we would have a food tour with ten different samples of local food and some culinary explanation. We booked Alec for a food tasting tour around Edinburgh old town on a busy Saturday. Alec was extremely friendly, polite, approachable and knowledgable. It was great to hear tales of bygone era as well as from Alec’s own childhood in the town. Many of the historical sites we visited we may have just walked on past and not fully appreciated but Alec really brought the history to life. I wouldn’t recommend eating anything prior to your tour as we were well fed (the Greggs lorne sausage being a highlight). Thanks Alec for sharing your knowledge and for being a top tour guide. This was probably the highlight of our weekend in Edinburgh! Alec is a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable about history and his city, it was a real pleasure to discover Edinburgh with him. He also gave us great tips on other things to do and discover in our own time, and recommended some other good food places to try. One thing to clarify, before booking the tour I saw other reviews mentioning the fact that the title of the tour "The 10 tastings of Edinburgh" was misleading as there were less than 10 dishes. This was true in our case, so maybe the title and the description of the tour should be amended to reflect that better. We tried 6 different dishes in total, and those were all delicious and a true discovery! I would definitely recommend the tour to other people, especially if you are lucky enough to get Alec as a guide, but with the caveat that you will most likely not get the 10 dishes as advertised in the title. However, it's still a tour that is 100% worth your time!! Great tour, great food, great guide!!

While we got a decent historical perspective of a few places in Edinburgh, we were expecting a food tour. We were disappointed in the choice of food and there were offfered and the drinks that were provided. At nearly $100 per person, I definitely expected more from the tour and food. Save yourself some money by researching online on the royal mile and Bobby’s friar. You can get yourself some luxurious food in many fabulous places rather than going on the tour. While Alec was friendly, I don’t think the money was well spent on the tour. Dont expect a food tour

Our time with Alec was really well spent! We got to try some haggis and other local comfort foods. He was extremely accommodating when asked to also include some vegetarian fare for my daughter. The tour while described as a food tour was really more than that as we also got info on history and some interesting stories. Alec is very personable and well traveled. First, Alec is awesome. A great tour. BUT NOT A FOOD TOUR. I have only great things to say about the tour guide Alec. I would highly recommend taking a tour with him. If this tour was correctly described I would give it 10 out of 10. Alec is very knowledgeable, and kind, and makes for a great experience. The tour was lovely and I would recommend the tour, so long as it is correctly described. This tour has SOME food, but it is 3 food places. MOSTLY walking and talking (which again, was awesome). The description describes it as a "foodie" making selections. I would not say that is accurate. It is some fun places to stop and get some food and chat along the route of a great informational tour. The food choices were very tasty, but when I take a food tour I'm hoping for several locations that I would not be able to find myself necessarily. First off, Alec is a great “Local” and he showed us St. Giles cathedral and some interesting facts and trivia in that area. At sundown he took us up Carlton Hill to see the City of Edinburgh, including the Castle, all lit up in lights. Absolutely beautiful and we were very happy to have seen the city this way against a gorgeous evening sky. We thank you, Alec, for that special moment. However……… this was supposed to be a 3 hour, 10 food and drink, eat and drink like a local foodie tour. This sadly did not happen. We stopped at 2 places and were given 2 items each place for food, The 3rd place was a pub that we were asked to choose our beverage of choice before Alec’s time with us was over and he said his good-byes. I would give Alec a 10 rating for who he is, his personality and his caring. I’d give the providing of the paid for Foodie experience a 4 because we did not get the described items we paid for. But because of the Carlton Hill experience which was extraordinary, I rated the whole experience an 8.Alec is personable and fun

Alec is a good guide. His knowledge of Edinburgh is excellent. He is a good communicator. We learned so much about the history, culture and architecture. However, this was a '10' tastings of Edinburgh tour. A significant aspect was to 'look through' the foodie lens. We were a little disappointed on the food aspect of the tour. Even though I am not a big whiskey fan, I was disappointed that we did not get to sample some of the Scottish treats or learn about this Scottish drink. Alec was really friendly, knowledgeable, informative and witty but not certain that the tour is doing full justice to the title of '10' tastings. The haggis was excellent but not sure that we actually received ten tastings.Good way to get to see Edinburgh
