Eiji was so nice and knowledgeable. He gave us delicious food we wouldn't have thought to get at Nishiki Market. You should definitely be adventurous and try his top choices, even though he said he would try to accommodate any dietary preferences or restrictions. (Just bear in mind it might be hard to do so!) Eiji took over 75 pictures during the tour, which allowed us to be in the moment and enjoy all the amazing food. At the end of the tour, he took us to the Gion district for sight-seeing. I highly recommend choosing Eiji for your food tour!Eiji is great!

We had a great morning with Ted in the Nishiki markets - myself and my two daughters. We had been there before on our own, and had not discovered half of the things Ted showed us - from puffer fish sashimi, to wagyu beef sushi to soy milk donuts and deep fried ice-cream, plus all sorts of spices and Japanese flavourings, and tempura tuna with sake in a crowded, popular bar. He was very generous and kind, and amusing...I would highly recommend this experience. Guia is so warm and friendly and has immense knowledge of food history and culture. We had a great time walking the market stalls with her and talking about life in the different places we’ve lived. She took some great photos of us as well enjoying the food, and seemed to know all the vendors personally! We got pretty fantastic bites to try that was catered to each of my family members tastes and preferences. We are a family of 3 visiting from San Francisco and Eiji was our guide for a food tour of Nishiki market and Gion. Eiji was excellent—friendly, knowledgeable and playful with a good sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed our Kyoto tasting tour with Ted (Yoshihiro). In a word, it was great. Ted introduced me and my wife to wonderful foods we never would have known existed. He is extremely knowledgable and also made everything relevant by explaining the history and culture of the city. The tour took place in Nishiki Market. If we did this on our own, we would have felt completely lost, not knowing what foods to try, who were the best vendors, or, in some cases, how to order the food. While I think he is a native of Kyoto, Ted worked in the States for many years and speaks English very well. This tour is highly recommended!Fantastic guide. A wonderful experience!

Yoshihiro (Ted) was a great communicator prior to our Tour and flexible with the dietary restrictions of our group. He introduced us to many vendors and food/drink options at Nishiki market that we would not have discovered on our own. Very patient with our questions and requests. We had a fantastic time with Guia. She teaches English for children and instantly connected with our 11 and 13 years old boys making the tour a lot more fun for them. Not only the food was delicious but Guia was also flexible when we wanted to taste different things and gave lots of information and tips about Kyoto. The stop at the Nishiki Tenmangū shrine was a great added bonus. The market can get very crowded, before booking it might be a good idea to ask for suggestions about best time to visit. I’d recommend booking Ted (Yoshihiro) to anyone traveling to Kyoto that’s interested on the local culture and likes to eat good food. Ted was nothing less than amazing; He speaks great english, is very polite, kind, funny, and easily engages in conversation with you. He’s very cultured in local cuisine, you’ll be eating great food. My wife, daughter and two teenage grandkids and I tasted our way through the Nishiki Market with "Ted" and had a wonderful time! Ted told us at the start that he wanted to expose us to the more interesting and unusual tastes of Kyoto and, because we are all happy to expand our comfort zones, we readily agreed and that's what we experienced. Ted had a wonderful sense of humor and command of english so we got along terrifically. I was concerned going in that 10 tastings might not be enough to satisfy all of us but they were more than enough and so varied that we could not have asked for more. Ted also gave us advice about his favorite places to eat in Kyoto which put the icing on the cake. We loved our tour with Ted! We did the 10 Food and Drink tour with Ted on our first day in Kyoto, and we could not have been happier. Ted took us to Nishiki Market, and he introduced us to the unique foods that we otherwise would not have tried. So good! We arranged this tour with Guia for our family of four and were we ever glad we did! Guia knows her stuff - not just about the local food scene but also the color and history behind several local attractions she recommended for our stay in Kyoto. My wife and I did the Nishi Market tour with Ted, it exceeded our expectations. Ted is a wonderful, patient and very knowledgeable guide. He walked us through three blocks of the market, stopping at many stalls to try food. He would explain the history of many stalls, provide guidance and answer questions about not just food, but souvenirs we thought about buying. For us the food was the highlight - Ted's deep knowledge of the market stalls and his gentle, friendly personality helped us try many different foods we would never of tried on our own - octopus with a quail egg inside, puffer fish, beef sushi,... We had great fun on our “10 tastings” tour with Eiji. He showed us some of the hidden gems of Nishiki market and also which tourist traps to maybe avoid. After the tastings we walked around the Gion district and took in some of the Kyoto highlights as well as some lesser known but arguably even more beautiful corners of the city. We had great fun chatting with Eiji throughout the tour and got to know and see the city from a more nuanced angle. We usually come to Japan and do our own thing but decided to give this tour a shot this time. Eiji was amazing. We had 2 kids with us 6 and 8. He was so great with them. We ended up signing up for 2 tours. 1- we did a food tour at Nishiki Market. He gave us an amazing variety for our family that we all loved. He had connections at the shops that had long lines too so we didn’t have to wait. He always did all the waiting and ordering for us. It was very stress free and he always made a point to show us the open restrooms! We tried foods we wouldn’t have tried on our own and they turned out to be delicious! 2- we also enjoyed a bike tour where the 6 y/o got to enjoy cruising on the back and the 8y/o got to maneuver through traffic. He took us through some beautiful areas that weren’t as crowded and new spots we didn’t pick on previous trips. He was accommodating, pleasant, knowledgeable AND took great pictures of us that we would have missed otherwise. Eiji was fantastic and I would recommend him to any and everyone! Eiji is the best guide!

Eijin really adapt to our way of being. He proposed us food that really we would not had tried otherwise, and that was a real surprise and succes. We now know, different types of beef, fish, sweats, ice creams and tried the delicious ones. Then we visit a temple, it was great, and he show us how to appreciate a japanese garden and how to watched them from different angles, 4 different gardes, quite different one to the other. Lastly, he recommended the temple of 1.000 budas, amazing temple, a restaurant etc. the tour was a great success, even though one in our party doesn’t like tour, we all thouhgt it eas worth it. Nishiki market is a wonderfully vibrant place with so many things to experience but can be a bit overwhelming. Having Ted with us to guide us through and keep us on track was essential. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the food scene in Kyoto really enhanced our experience.
