We have done a food tour before using With Locals when we were in Rome so chose the same company again when visiting Madrid. Ariadna was the best tour guide we could have hoped for. Really knowledgeable, friendly, relaxed and interesting - my 12 year old son had a fantastic time eating everything! A great mixture of local history and food combined. Ari is friendly, engaging, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Madrid in all of its aspects. We joined her for a food tour, having told her we were looking for "something different", having visited Madrid previously and been on previous food tours. She quickly determined what we wanted and then delivered. This was so much more than a food tour though, as she put many things into a historical context which was very helpful. The overall experience was very much like an interesting conversation along with a pleasant walk, interrupted for food tastings - Perfect. We had so much fun on our walking food tour of Madrid with Virginia! She knew so much about the city, but wanted to get to know us as well. As we walked, she pointed out shops to buy unique gifts for our family members and patiently waited as we made our purchases. I was trying to buy a European curling iron and she tried to help with that as well. She followed up with us days after the tour and did the most selfless and amazing thing…because of the National Holiday the roads were closed to taxis and she took the Metro to meet us at our hotel and escort us all the way to the airport on the Metro!! We “may” have gotten there on our own, but this was so much more efficient and no blaming each other for any wrong decisions! We know we have made a true friend 🩷We LOVED Virginia!

There’s much to be said of expectations. Since we were in Madrid, ours were high. How disappointed we were We were expecting off-the-beaten track food places what we got was the tourist food market. What we expected was some history and background to the different tapas, what we got was nothing at all. Not even that Spain has a long coastline rich in anchovies! Or that acorn-fed pigs produce the world famous Iberico hams. And lastly what we expected was some history and anecdotes of the areas we walked through the streets. What we got was a somewhat mute guide who commented only that Barquillo was gentrified only in the last 7 years. Fortunately ChatGPT was our friend and we located Spain’s first skyscraper ( Edificio Telefonica) and learned that the new Four Seasons was formerly the chairman’s office of Banco Santander. I will accept our group had some particular eating habits but this is an eating tour so one assumes that’s a routine obstacle to overcome. So I’m afraid she gets a one star, in the ongoing battle that is Woman/Man vs ChatGPT, Marianna’s performance scores one for the machines.Avoid.

Maria is a fun and energetic guide which my family which includes 12 and 10 year old girls love so much. She understands that my girls couldn’t drink alcohol and would add an orange juice stop for them. My family and I really enjoyed the history and background of Spanish tapas. A great afternoon with Julian, we started in a local market and tasted iberico ham and manchego cheese along with incredible mushroom croquettes and cider. Julian then took us to a local bar specializing in their own vermouth and the whole experience is like going back in time. The interior was amazing and it is not somewhere we would have thought of going without a guide. Our next stop included paella, potato bravas, and the best tortilla I have had in Spain along with unfiltered Albariño wine. Then finally we had desert at a local bakery run by Annie with very engaging and helpful staff. Throughout the whole experience Julian explained the history behind each location and how Madrid had changed over the years. We thought the historical perspective was as valuable as the wine and food. Overall a great day, the food selection was exactly what we expected but I was surprised in a good way by the wine tastings. I would never have ordered vermouth as a compliment to food and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Tapas and the history of Madrid

Ari was wonderful. In spite of our visit being right in the middle of the Christmas holiday, Ari worked with us to schedule and navigate the uber busy street to have one of the best tours we have been on. Although we weren’t sure what to expect with a ‘food tour’ of the city, we got so much more and really got a full city tour with food. We highly recommend Ari, she is wonderful. Patricia was a wonderful host for our introduction to food in Madrid. At each of the establishments we visited, we not only learned about the food we were eating, but about the establishment itself. The food, of course was excellent. The walking tour was very informative. We liked the descriptions of the different neighborhoods, their history and what we could find in them today. I had high hopes for this food and wine tour. We selected Mateo as our tour guide since he would provide us also with some history of Madrid while taking us to places where locals eat and drink. We selected the time slot of 6-9pm on a Sunday since it was available. We didn’t think this would cause any issues. We were wrong. Instead of experiencing “The 10 tastings of Madrid” we mainly experienced a history tour. In the end we only experienced 4 shareable appetizers and 2 wines or beers per person. The majority of the time was spent walking past places that we would have eaten at if they weren’t closed, which was a lot of places. At this point I’m not sure who’s to blame—the organization that allows these time slots to be available or the tour guide who should have done a better job of planning out our stops to make sure locations were open or providing us with more food options at the limited stops we had. Either way we definitely DID NOT get our money’s worth the more we had time to reflect on the tour. It’s very frustrating to know how much money we spent for the small amount of food and drinks we got on this tour considering we had an amazing experience in Portugal doing the same thing but with completely different results. It would be great if some form of refund is provided due to fact that we didn’t get what was advertised. Skip This Tour, Venture On Your Own

Cecilia was fun and full of energy. We experienced the best Tapas of our trip and learned a lot about the city along the way. We had a group of 5 and the pace of the tour was perfect.
