We really enjoyed our tour of the many different cuisines of Melaka with Joseph. He was unhurried good company, and told us lots about the history of Melaka, while taking us to a variety of great locations for lovely local food. He gave us many top tips for the next day as well. Try and go on this tour on your first day in the city, an excellent introduction that will orientate you, give you confidence in where to go, and ensure that you don’t go hungry. Brilliant

We booked the tour to get to know Melakka from a different angle. Joseph was a great guy that understood what we wanted to see and eat. We saw places of Melakka we would have never found much less have eaten. The tour was supposed to take 3 hours but we ended up having an almost 4 hour tour! This foodtour with Joseph is one of the best things we did in Malaysia! He took us to several best local foodspots we would never try if Joseph didn’t take us there. From riceballs till oysteregg and Chinese herbal thee. Joseph also tells a lot about Chinatown in Melaka where he took us, showed us the tempels and tells about the history. Joseph is so nice! We had such a great tour with Joseph. He showed us many places that we would never have discovered or dared to enter without him. A church, a buddhist temple, a shop where they make hand made lanterns, etc. He also taught us a lot about Malaccan and Malaysian history and culture. And, most importantly, we tasted so much amazing food! We visited several kopi houses and restaurants, as well as some street side stalls. Joseph also helped us avoid the foods that contained nuts and peanuts, which we we are allergic to. So: great experience, highly recommended. Great experience

Although it was Chinese New Year holiday, Joseph had planned ahead and found an authentic Chinese restaurant to take us too - which was in fact his own local but we had to go by car - the food was amazing. He was careful to understand what we liked and level of spice we could eat - which is everything and so we enjoyed a full meal of Sambal Red Snapper, Bok Choi, Chinese Pork Rib and rice. We then drove to Jonker Street where we got to try various local snacks and drinks at the Night Market. Throughout Joseph explained what the food was but also some of the history of the buildings. By the end we had to pass on the last food option as we were so full!!!Excellent food with excellent guide

Before the start of the evening Vanessa dropped me a message to welcome me and my family to confirm our evening and where to find her in the city. Vanessa had allowed me to add 2 more people last minute to the booking without complaint. When we finally met her that evening, she was welcoming and so gracious, in particularly my mother in law who was worried about the evening as she was experiencing some walking difficulties. Vanessa, immediately built into the evening several stops to ensure that everyone was comfortable with the pace of the evening. Vanessa shared her own experience of growing up and intertwined this with the history of the city. Her personal experiences of all really brought the evening alive. She checked with us what type of food we ate and found us a restaurant with lots of options to eat which was not easy mid week as quite a few restaurants were closed. Vanessa shared her insights to so many different aspects of the city as we wondered across town like the locals. At the end we all took a group selfie and Vanessa gave us loads of advice on where to eat whilst we were in town plus even where to buy shoes when we got to KL! We took her advice and my sister purchased a couple of really really nice shoes for only £30 in total! Thank you Vanessa for a wonderful experience.An evening with Vanessa

We organised two tours with Vanessa while staying in Melaka, and found her to be a professional, courteous, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. Firstly, we undertook a foodie tour, exploring the many facets of Melakan cuisine, but were also able to explore the old city and ready get underneath the skin of the place - finding the interesting, the obscure and the hidden. A warning, bring your appetite for all that you will be able to eat! The following day we undertook a city highlights tour, which Vanessa was flexible enough on the fly to change up, so we didn’t cover anything we’d already seen. Vanessa treats her role as a guide as much more than a job, and happily engaged in conversation about all manner of things, which made spending the time with her over two days very enjoyable. Very pleasant few hours spent with Joseph learning about Melaka which is a beautiful spot. Lots of history which he went into great detail about. The food spots were very enjoyable as he obviously knew where to go to so the food was delicious. It was much nicer than what we had tried ourselves. Met a very interesting elderly man who came to Melaka 73yrs ago and he and his wife live together and still own a shop in the old part of Melaka. Would highly recommend if you want to know about Melaka and it’s history. Great experience

We enjoyed an excellent food tour with Joseph. His historical knowledge of Malaca and in particular the temples and religious background is second to none. We enjoyed a few interesting local food stops along the way and Joseph was extremely helpful explaining everything to do with what we were choosing to eat. We enjoyed the local food stops very much and we learned a great deal about the native foods of Malaysia. Joseph was the most incredible guide!! He looked after us from the moment we arrived finding a restaurant (as we were late and hungry!). He then shared each location with incredible insight and passion. He flexed the tour to deal with my elderly parents ensuring it was enjoyable. For us who visit Malacca regularly, this guided visit of Malacca revealed some hidden gems: coolie street, the opium den of the coolies, the 3 wells, the upper building breaks enforced by the English Colonial governing force upon Malacca residents after the Great Fire of London. We also visited some of the local eateries with historical relevance to current day practises: drinking coffee from the saucer as a means of cooling the beverage, delicious half boiled egg- cooked to perfection.
