Wir hatten einen tollen Tag in Manila mit Rodolfo. Angefangen mit einer Sightseeingtour rund um das Fort, durch Museen und Kirchen hat uns Rodolfo viel interessantes über die Geschichte Manilas und der Philippinen erzählt. Er ist auch auf unsere Wünsche und Interessen eingegangen. Anschließend haben wir die street Food Tour durch Chinatown gemacht. Auch hier hat er die besten Restaurant, Shops und marktstände gefunden. Alles in allem ein super Tag mit fast 7 Stunden tollen Eindrücken Tolle Tour

When booking this tour, we were interested in local foods of course but also in learning more about Filippino culture. Jane took us to the favorite places, locals go to. I told her of my interest in local fruits. I was able to buy delicious mangoes, passion fruits and even mangousteen that were not on display! He asked immediately if we had dietary restrictions. My daughter is a pescatarian. He walked us through some areas that Anthony Bourdain did on his show which was very cool since one of my daughters was a big fan. Definitely bring your appetite. He feeds you well. We started out with fried chicken and duck noodle soup. Then we took a quick walk to talk about a little bit about the history of the place where we were, which was in Chinatown, and then we went and ate some more food. Then after that, we took a bit of a walk to have a nightcap and more food which we had to turn down and just have a tasting, because we were stuffed, bring your appetite, as you will be definitely fed with amazing food.Rodolfo was great.

Spending a couple of days in the bustling metropolis of Manila can feel overwhelming, especially for first-time visitors and those traveling with children. Whenever I visit a new city, I like to use *With Locals* to get my bearings and gain a deeper understanding of both the destination and its people—beyond just the tourist highlights. This time, we were fortunate to find Rodolfo, a kind and knowledgeable guide with a wealth of local insights. One of the restaurants he took us to held a special place in his heart—his mother used to bring him there as a child, though it was originally tucked away in a different alley, which we also got to explore. As we walked through the city, he shared stories from his life over the decades, giving us a richer perspective on Manila’s history and culture. We opted for a combined food and history tour, which proved to be an excellent choice. Rodolfo was incredibly flexible, willing to tailor the experience to our interests and schedule. We could have easily explored more—tasted more, seen more—but after six hours, our children were understandably exhausted. I highly recommend Rodolfo. He made us feel both well-informed and well cared for, and nothing was ever too much trouble. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️A flavoursome journey of food and culture.

Hi there, We only had two days in Manila before we took off to Visit the remaining Islands in the Philippines. We are a family of 4, and our two girls are 9 and 12. We wanted first to get the most out of the street food and history which we are keen for, but knowing there is so much to see and do we were quite apprehensive in what we were actually able to do. Than the morning arrived for our tour, and we met out tour guide Rudolfo!!! And wow, what a gentleman! Nor just he was a highly cordial yet fun guide as he is a walking encyclopaedia not just of the history of the Philippines as from the general history of the world. Vey educated person. More important was our greeting and pick up. He arrived before the hour with the car we rented, which he picked up, and than in a very calm and professional way he made us feel very comfortable and secure. He gave us a detailed briefing of possibilities and timings and all went just perfect. In the end it felt we went out with a friend or a family member with whom we spend the day. He really took us off the beaten track, with all is local expertise, trying excellent street food and as we travelled seeing a few sites. After in the afternoon was all about embracing the history whilst walking through sites and streets. I work in tourism for many years and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with Rudolfo!!! I take my hat off!! Congratulations, thank you and well done!!!What a Gentelman and what a tour!!!

My husband and I were very excited to do a food tour with Joemarie for our first time in the Philippines. I reached out to him a few days before the tour with a question, but received no response. I assumed he was probably busy so, I let it go. On the day of our tour, we arrived on time at the meeting point and waited. I texted Joemarie, and waited. Around 15 minutes after our scheduled meeting time, he responded that there was a family emergency and no food tour would be happening. While I can be sympathetic to his situation, he was not professional enough to reach out to us in a timely manner to update us. Sadly, I would not recommend this tour and Withlocals has not reached out or refunded us for a tour that did not happen. All in all, this experience has been very disappointing.Joemarie was uncommunicative & a no show

We enjoyed our time with Rodolfo. He was punctual, pleasant and kind to accommodate our dietary preferences (the tour was advertised as having vegetarian options). However, we were hoping for a more curated experience which shared some interesting facts about the area and culture of Manila as we walked through the streets of Chinatown. We found that we had to ask questions to really get this richness. The vegetarian restaurant (one stop) we visited had interesting options but not all of it was local cuisine. The two meat stops were good. For the dessert, perhaps another alternative could have been a nice way to end the tour. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening and we left having gained some insights into the life of those living in that part of Manila. Food tour in Manila

My husband and I had a wonderful tour in Chinatown with Rodolfo. Rodolfo is very knowledgeable about the culture and history of the Philippines. We had very interesting conversations with him while enjoying the various delicacies he shared with us - including fried frog legs, duck soup and oyster pancake. He was very considerate of our dietary restrictions and went out of his way to take me to a vegetarian restaurant where I had amazing vegetarian hot and sour soup! Bernadette was late even after pushing the original tour back 2 hours. Lack of information during the food tour and very nonchalant on the recommendations. Nothing seemed planned out beforehand. What a fantastic experience from start to finish! It was easy to book the tour online & pick the guide we wanted to tour with. Rodolfo was super helpful leading up the tour, sharing little travel tips & the online declaration. Rodolfo gave us an overview of the tour beforehand which was great. We started at Intramuros & wandered through the Fort which Rodolfo was really knowledgeable on. Onto some Filipino food tasting & a BEAUTIFUL sunset from a rooftop. We wandered a bit more & then headed up to Chinatown for a walk around, some more foodie insights & to a DELICIOUS noodle & dumpling place. Rodolfo was friendly, knowledgeable & made the tour a fun & interesting experience. I highly recommend this tour! Fantastic experience!

My beautiful daughters and I had a wonderful food tour with Rodolfo. We explored the many cultural pockets of Manila and ate some wonderful food. Some of our favorites included tuna ceviche, hand pulled noodles, and floral infused ice cream. He was a fabulous tour guide through the city where he grew up. He even showed us some personal landmarks from his childhood as we were walking through town. He gave us an in depth history of the Philippines and told us about the artwork of his late father. My family members are happy with the way Rodolfo touring us around with different mode of transportation eg. Pasig River view by ferry from Guadalupe to Escolta, Jeepney, Tuktuk and tricycle rides. Recommended us for Intramuros tour by riding on Kalesa. Also good suggestion on visiting Bahay Tsinoy, Casa Manila, St Augustin Church and Fort Santiago. We booked a Spanish-speaking guide in Manila because we wanted to fully understand the history and details of the city in our own language. John was friendly and attentive when he met us, but from the beginning he explained that although he could read and write Spanish, he preferred to conduct the tour in English. In our opinion, he relies on translation tools and is not able to guide fluently in Spanish. We made it clear that we had specifically chosen a Spanish-speaking guide for this reason. From that moment on, it was noticeable that he did not feel comfortable leading the tour, and he chose places where he did not need to explain much. For example, he took us to the Natural History Museum, which we do not think is the most appropriate place to learn about the history of Manila and the Philippines. He did not seem to have a structured plan or narrative. When he briefly mentioned José Rizal, we had to ask him to explain who Rizal was and to provide some context. His answers were very short, and it became clear that he could not conduct a proper tour in Spanish. Given the situation, we told him to switch to English, and while he spoke more in that language, there was still no clear storyline connecting the history of the Philippines from Spanish colonization to independence. At one point, he would simply point us to read signs instead of explaining. Once in Intramuros, it seemed as if the tour was ending, so I asked if we would visit Fort Santiago. He looked uncertain and pointed in another direction, which gave the impression that he did not have full knowledge of the places. Eventually we went there, but he had not brought any cash to pay for the entrance tickets — something quite surprising for a guide who supposedly does this tour regularly. In summary, John was polite but he is not prepared to conduct tours in Spanish, nor did he seem fully organized to provide a high-quality experience. ⸻ ¿Quieres que te la deje en un tono más suave y diplomático (para no sonar demasiado duro) o en este tono más crítico y directo?

Huge thanks to Rodolfo for such an enjoyable and interesting evening. Before the visit, the communication was smooth and efficient and friendly. Quite easy to get organized and arrange the tour. Leading up our meeting all was reconfirmed by Rodolfo. Quite reassuring. We asked to see cockfighting, known as "sabong" in the Philippines, a traditional and popular pastime that involves wagering on fighting roosters. Rodolfo ensured it was a positive experience and shared a lot of knowledge about this activity. After we asked for a tour of Makati’s Poblacion area, with lively nightlife and restaurants. Rodolfo customized our tour to include only certain spots in Manila that I was interested in seeing and to show us around Quezon City, where I was trying to assess the neighborhood of a childhood home I hope to recover. He was accommodating when I accidentally booked the tour for the wrong date. He suggested we hire a car and driver at very reasonable rate and they picked us up at our hotel in QC. He was knowledgeable and was able to alter the tour when it started to rain. Rodolfo was also very good about communicating before the tour date so that we knew our special requests would be accommmodated. Cannot recommend him enough.Very knowledgeable and accommodating

We enjoyed our time with Rodolfo in Manila. He presents well, gives details when and where needed and always added local flair and insights into the buildings, area and places we visited. He took us into spots the larger tour groups did not get to and managed to get us into the church that was closing for lunch. He’s a charmer. He moved to our pace of walking and we thoroughly enjoyed the day: especially a cold beer after our long walk at the Manila Hotel. Such a wonderful spot. We were a group of seven. I had done a tour of Intramuros with the flamboyant Carlos Celdran many years ago but this came as a great refresher with new nuggets of information. In spite of his technical background, Rudolfo dug deep into his passion for history and the arts and we were all brought into the world of the tumultuous times of Manila under the Spaniards, Americans and the Japanese. It was a leisurely pace and we did not feel rushed. I had seen a Manila that is often under-appreciated for the exciting mix of cultures. In brief, Rodolfo excelled in everything and anything. Personable? Extremely knowledgeable, nothing was too much. Took us on request to areas not on the tourist map. Picked us up earlier than contracted and simply kept going. Above all his honesty, I had a brain freeze , counted out 10 times the amount agreed in pesos and he stopped me and corrected the amount. Could have taken 10 times the agreed amount. Cannot speak highly enough of this man , Do not hesitate to engage Rodolfo. Amazing local guide.

We enjoyed our visit to a very hot Manila (42 degrees in the shade) with Rodolfo. He is kind, generous, thoughtful, and very knowledgeable about his home town. We particularly liked our authentic and reasonably priced lunch which Rodolfo helped us choose. Other memorable moments included giving ice-creams to street children; the museum of José Rizal; the dungeon with which Rodolfo has a personal connection; the Cathedral where Christians were queuing to go in; the view from the top of the hotel; the ride in a jeepney, and many more. My 12 year old son and I really enjoyed our walking tour around Fort Santiago and Intramuros. Joemarie was knowledgeable, kind, patient and very flexible. We had a lovely morning in Manila with Joemarie. We visited the sights in Intra-muros, took a jeepney together and listened to all his knowledge. He knows his history, his local heroes and 87 (!!) national anthems with perfect accents. Excellent guide! Thanks Joem! Excellent guide, a fountain of knowledge!
