Very enjoyable lunchtime walk to huge indoor market and several different establishments in old town. The food was wonderful and a good representation of Latvian cuisine. Eva was delightful, knowledgeable, and accommodating of our group’s dietary needs. Went on a food tour with Janis. He was amazing, knowledgeable, and personable. The problem was the tour itself. We usually go on food tours when we visit new cities and the problem was this - there wasn't much food! We heard a lot about typical latvian dishes, but never got to try them - black balsam, kvass, dumplings, rye bread pudding. The food we did eat was great, but the portions were so much smaller than we expected. We have left other food tours actually stuffed! But this food tour was more like a handful of snacks. Again, great guide, mediocre tour!Great guide! Mediocre Tour!

We had a pleasant time with our guide in the market and seeing the sights of Riga. She was pleasant, seemed knowledgeable and experienced, and proud of her city. However, we felt that the value of the food purchased at the market was not worth the price paid for the tour (bread, cheese, berries, pastry, smoked meat, and one small beer).Pleasant but pricey

Janismet us at our hotel. He arrived early and was well prepared including hand wipes. He visited the market the prior day to ensure everything was arranged for us. Our tour was scheduled for a slow day when many vendors are not open. We were able to try a variety of tasty foods ranging from smoked mets, cheeses, breads, fruit and candy. We partook of drinks, Samohonka (alcoholic) and Kvass (non-alcoholic). Janis took us behind the scens into the inner workings of the market basement.Great Tour with Janis

Excellent private tour in Riga Central Market. Janis was very friendly and gave us a fantastic time in the market. We learnt about the history, architecture and traditional Latvian food. It is highly recommended to go with empty stomachs because during the tour you will have a lot of stops with various smells and tastes. It was extremely interesting tour and I highly recommend it! Margita is a very competent guide with a lot of knowledge both in art history and in gastronomy. She showed me the highlights of Rīga and added many unknown aspects so that it was really a pleasure to listen to her. We also went to some culinary places where she could explain the peculiarities of the Latvian cuisine in a brilliant manner. Margita is a lifelong Riga resident and art expert who worked as an art teacher, artist and tour guide. She was most generous with her time, telling us in detail about many buildings and local history, and introducing us to the most delicious Kalve coffee.
