What a turn of luck for us that Ana was available to give us a wonderful tour of Porto the city she loves with all her heart! We learned so much about history of the city, culture, saw hidden jems that only a local expert would know about. Joao was terrific. We were an older group and he adapted to our slower pace right away. He was able to take us around the entire town to see the highlights while making sure we had time to rest. He is totally in tune with the vibe of Porto and the places most favored by locals. He was able to give us the backstories and interesting histories not found in guidebooks. We had a wonderful five-hour tour with Rui in Porto in mid-September. Coming from a family that has lived in Porto for generations, he was very knowledgeable and anxious to share his love for the city, which he did in perfect English. Porto is a very old city that has become quite trendy, with many visitors and young people, and Rui gave us a good sense of how that happened and its impact on the people who live there. We learned a great deal about Porto’s history, economy, and culture, both through Rui’s “standard” tour and in his responses to our many questions on a wide variety of topics. He paced the tour well, asking us if we were tired or hungry, and stopping to accommodate photos, etc. We had an interesting conversation over lunch about his family and life in general for people his age in this suddenly super popular city (although the food at the restaurant he chose was not very good). A small side note: If you want to see Livraria Lello, the beautiful bookstore that has become Porto’s number one tourist attraction thanks in part to its purported connection to JK Rowling and Harry Potter, be prepared to wait in a long line (€8) or get priority entry (€50). We decided to skip it. We recommend Rui without hesitation.Rui - a knowledgeable & thoughtful expert

Andre was prompt (actually, early!). In my 5 hour walking tour, he showed me all the architectural marvels throughout Porto, from medieval structures to modern ones. He is a wealth of historical knowledge, and could answer all of my questions. He showed me architectural oddities in town, such as the “hidden house”, nested between 2 enormous churches. He took me to an awesome bakery of pastry de nata (custard filled pastry), where we could watch the bakers create their nata masterpieces, and our treats were still hot out of the oven! He showed me the different decorative/protective tiles covering the buildings, and showed me how to determine the approximate age of the tiles. Our tour was entirely on foot, and Andre paid attention to whether I was comfortable or getting tired, or needing a break or hydration. He was acutely aware of my safety, especially when crossing the roads and in construction zones. He even made suggestions about activities I can do in Porto tomorrow. His English is excellent. Andre was an exceptional and ideal tour guide. I recommend him highly. Great tour with Andre

Our 5-hour Porto city tour with Orlando was amazing! He has a wealth of knowledge of all aspects of Porto and used an iPad and maps to help us visualize the history. The pacing of the tour was perfect, and he even took the time at the end of the tour to drop us off at a great restaurant for lunch and also sent us some recommendations afterwards. We arrived a few minutes early at our tour starting point and Rui was already waiting for us! We had a great morning walking around and seeing the sites of Porto with a local who grew up there. We visited several important sites and strolled along the streets with Rui able to provide background and context to everything we saw, including Porto’s older small grocery stores and the Bolhão market. We got to stop along the way for some delicious food - one of our favorite things was getting to try a “lanche” sandwich and enjoy having a break outside. Rui even gave us some suggestions for places to eat in Porto and things to do when we went to Lisbon later in our trip. I would highly recommend Rui for this or any tour in Porto! Amazing tour of Porto!

We met Rui a bit early and he was there waiting....we saw the most famous monuments and some of the out of the way places that made for a fantastic tour! We stopped at a few places for a coffee and some cookies, a little lunch, some port wine and some pastel de nata, which was an added bonus. Everything was perfect! We asked for some recommendations on where to find the best Francesinha in Porto and Rui did not steer us wrong! We had some free time to walk over the bridge, ride a cable car and a boat cruise before heading back to Sao Bento to take the train back to Lisbon. It was a long day and a lot of walking but we really enjoyed it! Highly recommend this tour and especially this guide! Thanks Rui and congratulations on your new addition!
