I’ve been looking forward to experiencing Pompeii for my entire life. Raf met and exceeded all our expectations. We booked a private transport from Sorrento, tour of Pompeii, lunch at a local winery, and subsequent tour of Herculaneum. We started with a pick up that was slightly delayed due to a traffic accident, but everyone worked with us, communicating multiple times to adjust our tours and lunch reservations. Raf had our tickets and we breezed through the line easily. He began our tour like a story teller, making certain we understood both the significance of the site and the history of the surrounding region. It was clear from the onset that Raf not only had a wealth of information to impart but was passionate about his subject. He answered all of our questions thoughtfully and expounded on several areas we were interested in. My only complaint was that that we only had two hours to explore, we certainly needed two weeks and will be back!! The frescos, shops, fountains, stepping stones, orchards, and gardens were just other worldly to see. Raf really brought the previously bustling city to life for us. Lunch was incredible with food and wine from the local winery. The founders grandson took care of us and was happy to tell us the history of the winery as well as the significance of each bottle we tasted. Raf then took us to Herculaneum for a continued picture of the time period of the Vesuvius eruption. Again his compassion and humanity were prominent in his tour. He spoke with care and reverence of the people who perished and who might have survived. Showing us delicate mosaics, architecture, and other Roman creations like sloped roads and areas for baths, shops, and private gardens. The entire day was truly once in a lifetime. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area! The most amazing day!

We booked a tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum with Carlo. He was very responsive before our day. He also helped me book transportation to both sites as we were with a car. We started in Herculneum just as the site opened. Carlo gave a great background on Vesuvius and what we were going to experience during the day as we looked out over the site. He obviously knows both sites well and helped us navigate the large (and somewhat intimidating) areas. It was an intense few hours- however, very rewarding. On our own, we would have only seen 10% of what Carlo was able to fit in on the tour. Carlo entertained any question my family had from basic to humorous; was willing to stop for a break whenever my two young daughters needed a diversion; and gave us great suggestions for restaurants for the remainder of our stay in Naples. Carlo is a great guide. I strongly recommend you book with him if possible. Carlo- Superhost!

Serena met us at the bus station and took us to Pompeii & Herculaneum on a rainy cold day. Despite the poor weather, her energy and enthusiasm were boundless and we put in a lot of steps that day. Dario was our tour guide to Pompeii and Herculaneum on September 20th and we could not have had a better tour guide. From the preplanning of helping us find a driver to drive us from our hotel in Naples to the ruins to getting us to use our imagination to help us understand what these communities were like before the eruption set us up for a day of relaxed and fun filled learning. There were 4 adults on our tour--my husband, myself and our 2 adult sons. Dario had us all engaged. He asked questions to get us thinking. He had us role play various scenarios to make what he was teaching us stick and would be remembered. I could not imagine going through the ruins without Dario by our side. A bonus Dario takes great photographs and the ones that make me smile the most are the selfies he took with us after taking ones of my family with the ruins and Mount Vesuvius behind us. Our tour with Dario was fascinating. His passion for the history of Pompeii is obvious. He was able to answer a wide variety of historical questions we had that weren't specific to the tour--his knowledge is thorough and deep. We toured Pompeii and Herculaneum with Raffaele. He was clearly very expert but also quite broad, able to talk about trade patterns, social practices, artistic motifs, and even some technical matters (building usages, plumbing) with great clarity. He also seemed a true archeologist, able to give alternative explanations where scholarly debate was not yet settled. This may make him sound nerdy but he was lively, cheerful, and witty. We loved our tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum with Vitalija. We were traveling as a family of six with a toddler in a stroller, which we knew would be a little tricky to manage, so we were hoping a small private tour would give us greater flexibility. Vitalija was absolutely fantastic as our guide. She adjusted the tour to our interests and needs, including whatever would be most helpful for the little one. Her English skills are superb, and she is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. I don't recall any question she couldn't answer. Talking to her was like talking to a friend. She helped us navigate the unfamiliar metro system around Naples and gave good suggestions for places to eat after our tour. Pompeii is super crowded, with large tour groups trying to follow their guides, and it was clear that we were at an advantage by having our own personal tour guide to navigate the sites. I would recommend withlocals.com and particularly Vitalija, for a great tour experience. Once-in-a-lifetime experience!

We were fortunate enough to have Dario as our local guide for our tour in Pompei and Herculaneum. Dario was very proactive in giving us advice on how to travel from Rome to meet him for our day tour starting in Naples. He also arranged a car to pick us up from Naples and we travelled between destinations in the same car which was very handy. Dario was very knowledgeable and gave us very detailed descriptions on points of interest - without him we wouldn’t have had a clue what we were looking at. He was also very patient and managed to keep my 2 teenage children engaged throughout the tour too. My husband was unable to join the tour that day but in the future if we come back again to do this tour with my husband, I will definitely get Dario as our guide again. Dario was an exceptional guide on multiple levels. He knows Italian history including not only Pompeii and Herculaneum but Naples’ rich cultural significance and contributions to the greater world. He was professional, punctual, responsive and accommodating about our interests and concerns. Beyond his expert guiding at Pompeii and Heraculaneum he also took us on a short but fantastic tour of the Naples subway- an unexpected delight. He arranged and expert driver and one evening got us a table at an incredible authentic Naples pizza restaurant. We went for a full day tour with Dario to Pompeii and Heraculanem, and he was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable about the history and culture, considerate of our special interests, friendly and supportive of our energy levels. He arranged a comfortable taxi ride for us to Pompeii, then Heraculanem then home, which made a long day more workable. Our tour of Pompeii was moving and amazing, and Dario pointed out many small details about life at the time of the eruption that we never would have known about otherwise. The tour plus transportation was expensive, but was worth the cost for a once in a lifetime experience. My family consists of my husband, myself, and our three daughters ( ages 9, 11, and 13 ). We booked a private tour with Noemi to see Pompeii and Herculaneum. I cannot convey in this short review what a wonderful tour guide and overall wonderful person Noemi is. Prior to even arriving to Italy, Noemi took the time to communicate with us through the withlocals app and ensure everything we needed was set up in advance. We traveled from Rome to Naples via train and Noemi met us at the train station and had a large taxi waiting for us to use as our transportation throughout the day. Noemi was incredibly knowledgeable and informative about the sites. She was funny and brought candy for the kids to snack on and bracelets for souvenirs. We booked a personalized tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum with Dario after our plans changed to allow for a visit to Naples.
