My husband and I spent six hours with Laura over two days. She was chuck full of knowledge, great spirit, an easiness to her. It was evident her love of Amsterdam, it’s history and culture. We just finished our 2 day tour with Laura and it was wonderful!! From the hidden courtyards and tilted houses to the best places for fried fish(or pickled herring) and absolutely delicious apple pie both days were packed with so much interesting information. We thoroughly enjoyed it. My 82 year old parent's were with us and we appreciated the slower pace, always taking care to ask if they needed a rest. I travel often and have experienced many tours. Laura Maria makes a person want to move to Amsterdam. She is knowledgeable, patient, warm, flexible, and loves guiding. My daughter and I booked her WW11 tour which was informative and interesting. If I did it again, I would hire her for as many days as you want to tour. She can guide you in all things/ food/ culture/ history/ current events/ politics/ and places around the country. She also can suggest a car and driver to accompany a tour. She is lovely. Despite seeing somethings more than once, the information was different from each guide so did not feel repetitive. The three hours went so fast 😒 We had a perfect afternoon with Laura, as we strolled the streets of Amsterdamn we learned how the city was affected by WWll , how the Dutch fought back ,the plight of the Jews and the history of Amsterdam in general. Laura was so knowledgeable and we felt like we were with a old friend we hated to end our time with her . Laura also had great suggestions for resteraunts places to visit and to stay for our next trip to the Netherlands. Laura also spoke perfect English so we were never left guessing what she was saying . We started at the Dutch resistance museum, where Laura happily met us there and ended the tour at the Ann Frank House . The Perfect day with amazing tour guide. Ugh, Laura was the best. I had a few tours cancel last-minute so I decided to try booking through this and it turned out better than I'd hoped. She had plenty of historic knowledge and had some more recent, anecdotal knowledge after staying in the area so long. After the tour, I was happy that I had a good understanding of the area and it's rich history and a few recommendations for places to try. Laura Marie exceeded our expectation. She met us on time, then proceeded to orient us to where we were in Amsterdam. During our time with her, she gave us a running commentary about the colonial, sociopolitical and religious history of the Netherlands as we walked through the city, across canals and over what turned out to be the only river that ran through old Amsterdam. She also gave us the back stories explaining the forward leaning homes and the sewage problems (all in the past) that made rats a problem and cats the solution...she talked about boat houses, bikes and good places to grab a bite. Her stories were anything but boring and in the end, she gave us additional pointers--places to visit and prioritize and where to eat, given our short time in the city. I highly recommend her! Laura was amazing!! So sweet and informative. We did a custom 5 hour tour that included highlights of the city and some food stops! Laura made sure we did everything we wanted to do! I had my older mom and aunt with me and they had to go at a slower pace. Laura was very accommodating and kept making sure they had enough time to rest between stops. My mom, sister and I did a hidden gems tour with Laura. She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Amsterdam in both modern and historical facts. We loved Laura Maria! As a former resident of the area, she knew all the ins and outs of all the little side streets we may have missed. I think we covered them all. She was also very informative about the complete history of the area up to the present time. She was also able to answer all are questions about the area and the people who work there; because let's face it - we're all curious. She was even able to recommend a restaurant in the area. I cannot recommend Laura more. She was one of our favorite tour guides on our trip. The food in Amsterdam was fantastic, and she did a great job sharing stories about living there. She modified the tour slightly to our tastes because we had tried croquettes that morning before going on the tour. She was knowledgeable and shared a little history of Amsterdam with us and even shared about her life there. The stroopwafel place she took us was 10/10 and now I'm not sure any other stroopwafel will live up to that taste ever again! If you are looking for someone laid back and easy to talk to, book with Laura. Highly recommend!

I purposely selected Withlocals for our Second World War tour in able to capture the essence of this period in world history. As a Canadian I was well aware of the part our troops played in the liberation of The Netherlands. Having had a cousin who was part of this historical event I wanted to experience the city from a personal perspective. I have to say that "Laura" was a pleasant surprise and incredibly knowledgeable. She was very accommodating and patient responding to our questions. I had some understanding of this period from my own research and historical readings. Laura enlightened me with respect to the Jewish perspective and their deportation to what became extermination camps throughout Europe. Laura Maria give us an excellent walking tour of Amsterdam. Meeting instructions were easy to follow and Laura was very punctual. She is friendly, has very good English, explains everything clearly and answered all questions really well. She often asked for feedback, if we understood or wanted better information, and made good suggestions about sites on the way. A small group format works really well in a large city and we felt we got to see a lot of sites in a short period of time especially as we could all walk quite quickly. Every question was answered and we felt we learnt so much about this great city from Laura Maria. She has a very pleasant and friendly personality and made our experience in Amsterdam a great one. Laura Maria is very knowledgeable about all of the historical aspects of the sites that we visited, but intimately aware of the societal issues that resulted in the horrific situation that developed into what the NAZIs referred to as the "Final Solution". She was able to make us understand, on a very personal level, how members of an occupied nation could become ruthless collaborators, or dedicated members of the resistance. She made us even more painfully aware of the devastation that occurred in families when members chose to fight on the opposite sides of the battle. I thought that I was fairly knowledgeable about this part of history, but Laura Maria taught me things of which I was completely unaware. She managed to do it in such a way that makes me reflect on whether or not this kind of horrific system of inhumane treatment of our brothers and sisters could happen within our society today. I would strongly suggest that you should take this tour either individually or in very small groups. Laura Maria is very good at pacing the tour to individual needs or limits. Unlike taking tours with large groups, Laura Maria will take the time to ensure that each person gets the most out of the tour.The Jewish Experience in NAZI occupied Ams

We had a great time with Laura Maria. As advertised she seemed to know Amsterdam like the back of her hand. We started out in a very public and crowded space but within just a few minutes we were in a quite beautiful courtyard of historic buildings that we would never have found ourselves. The tour continued like that for 3 hours. It was great, and when we had finally finished she gave us several excellent suggestions on where to go and where to eat for the rest of the day. From the moment we met Laura, we knew we were in for an amazing adventure in Amsterdam. Her friendly welcoming smile started two days of many wonderful experiences.
