Sebastian was super informative about Dutch history and culture - from the bitter coffee & sweet stroopwaffel pairing, gouda cheese, herring and Surinamese & Indonesian cuisines entering the Dutch pallette. Meeting Mayra was a real pleasure. First it was really nice to have the tour in Portuguese. We had a fantastic time, a great walk and delicious tastings - Mayra was really nice, authentic and relaxed, so it was like being with a friend showing us the city and taking us to nice places…and we really felt the Amsterdam vibe! This was our first visit to Amsterdam and really wanted to do a local food tour. Sebastian arrived on time and brought us to an amazing area - De Pijp district for our food tour. He chose family run restaurants and stands which we really appreciated. He knew everyone and the owners all welcomed us graciously! The food was outstanding and the background and history provided by Sebastian was too! We discovered a neighborhood we would not have explored on our own. We never felt rushed, and had such a relaxed and interesting food adventure. If you are on the fence - book now. You won't be disappointed. Big Thumbs Up!! Excellent Food Tour with Sebastian!!

Our second food tour in Amsterdam but definitely the best! Sebastian was the perfect host for these 2 couples- one German, the other American. That made sure we all understood him perfectly. We loved the selection of foods we tried - coffee, Made to order stroop waffles-mouthwatering, cheeses, Vietnamese loempia, but the best was our introduction to Surinamese food- Pom and tempeh. All mostly from a great outdoor market in the Pijp. Lots of information with the origin of these foods and culture. Great price snd perfect length of of time. Highly recommend Unexpected Treats!

In der Beschreibung steht Sebastian - „The Human Translator“ - diesem Titel wird Sebastian mehr als gerecht! Im Satz wechselt er von deutsch zu niederländisch um mit den Restaurants zu sprechen und wieder zurück in perfektes Deutsch um seine allerlei Hintergrundinformationen zur Geschichte und den Einflüssen der Kolonien zu berichten. Hoch spannend und definitiv eine Abwechslung vom Cliché Holland Essen (Frikandel). Sebastian erklärt präzise in welchen Jahren welche Gebiete und Länder Kolonien waren und welche Gerichte diese Länder mitgebracht haben. So findet man viele neue Geschmäcker und Gerichte, die man so sicherlich nicht probiert hätte. Alle Essenstände und Restaurants haben uns herzlich empfangen. Sebastian ist zudem super flexibel: Auf diverse Allergien wurde super reagiert und entsprechende Alternativen gefunden. Let's start by I got in late in AMS, got a prepaid card and he did re-schedule. He is willing to work with you. The Tour the Best. He does introduce you to the local producers for the natural taste. A food tour and bike tour are always ‘must dos’ wherever I travel. Marten was full of energy and knowledge. As well as learning about the food we learnt about Dutch culture and history which was super interesting. To be honest, we were a bit disappointed that the tour was only 2 hours not the 3 hours advertised and there were only 5 food tastings not 7 plus a beer tasting so it seemed expensive for that and we felt a bit short-changed - a beer would have been fun! Most of the tastings were in the market - it was good to walk through all the stalls but on previous tours we’ve gone to different places. One of the cheese food stalls was closed but Marten was able to do something else instead.Very enjoyable tour but a bit short

This was such a fun tour! We got to see parts of the city we haven’t seen before and wandering the streets with a local is fantastic. Sebastian was great!
