We had looked forward to this trip and decided to spend a little extra choosing a private tour. Joel is a bad driver. He constantly corrected his placement in the lane. He speeded up and used the brakes to slow down all the time. Drowe 60 km/h on the motorway and then suddenly speeded up to 120. This resulted in a very unpleasant experience. On our way up the mountain, he crashed with a truck going down. Pure luck that there were only damages to the car - it could have been a disaster. That is how bad a driver he is. The car is old and does not give a very good view out. We told him before the tour that we were allergic to chilli, so for lunch, he took us to an Indian restaurant. We could only get desserts and rice. That is poor. The sights were not that interesting except for the tea plantation. Here we walked around on ourselves while he just waited for us to return. This is not worth the money in any way.Could have been a disaster

Joel was very friendly and a great guide! The Cameron Highlands were absolutely stunning! If you have time, I would recommend staying out there a day or two. We went during the week which was perfect because we avoided a lot of traffic that we heard could be terrible. So beautiful!

My husband and I only had two days in KL and wanted to make the most of it. Joel came up with the perfect itinerary for us that included Batu Caves, a beautiful waterfall, a temple, and a short walking tour. He was very friendly and informative. I did the Cameron Highlands tour with Joel, he was great, informative and friendly. Great chat all the way through. IMPORTANT: as much of a pain it is, it’s worth leaving as early a possible in the morning (I left 6:30am), because you beat most of the traffic jams up there in the mountains and those jams are loooooong (as we saw when we were leaving) The 2 tea plantation areas we went to were lovely (if the weather is good, you get great pics), however my favourite bit was visiting some of the native Malaysian’s who live in the jungle and see and hear how they live. Note: the prices are quite high for this, however I found out it was more due to the commission taken by withlocals than the tour guide’s cut. (They can give a break down if you ask) It was a great and worthwhile experience with Joel and highly recommended.

As a European who lives in KL and does not yet know the surrounding area so well, I booked this Cameron Highland Tour. Joell is excellently informed and looks with a very good and also critical view of his own country, a great interlocutor during this yet very long but rewarding tour. This experience was very well worth it. It is a long day of travel, but it was very nice to get out of the busy city of KL for a little bit and see a different side of Malaysia. Joel was amazing and very knowledgeable of his country and the people around as well. He introduced me to an original tribe of Malaysia and they were so nice! The tea plantations were beautiful. We went to Cameron highlands Tea plantages with Joell, which really is very professional guide.He cares a lot about the nature and he was telling us about the animals, like tigers, panters, sivet cats, flying foxes in the area. He also knows almost everything about the fruits, trees and plants. Since we booked a privat tour for 2 the program could be changed according to our wishes. To meet one of the natives was absolutely amazing. The trip was worth every dollar and time spent in the car (12 hours). I can warmly recommend Joell as your guide!A marvellous experience with Joell

Joell was our local for a tour to Cameron Highlands and Taman Negara. Two long days, as both started in Kuala Lumpur, but so worth it. Joell went to Cameron Highlands a lot of times, which you can tell by how well he knows the way around and all the details he can give. It is a beautiful area. Ask yourself if you want to visit all the places in the itenary; for us when looking back on the day we could have skipped the butterfly garden for instance. Let Joell know and I am sure he will add another interesting spot. The 2nd day we went to Taman. Joell told us many things changed there during covid, for instance a lot of new guides and more strict rules about registration. But with his experience as a guide, he made this a smooth day and we saw and did everything we wanted. Both days we had good local lunches. Joell made suggestions both times of what we could try, much appreciated! Joell is a very friendly guy and a good human being. He told us a lot about nature, about politics in Maleysia and let us taste some local products. Little tip from us planningwise: we only had 2 days for these 2 tours, but both for us and for Joell it were 2 long days. Staying overnight in Cameron Highlands would be a good idea. Joell suggested this after we booked, but as we already booked a hotel we could not do that. If you can, talk to him as you are planning. Amazing days in Maysia with Joell

Although we knew from the start that this trip will be a full day trip with an early morning start and we were a bit worried, at the end of the day, our trip with Joell to Cameron Highlands was amazing. Our first stop was at Lata Iskandar Waterfall, where we did a short hike while Joell was getting traditional Malay food for breakfast for us. As a plus, Joell has a lot of knowledge about the local flora and fauna - for instance, he showed us wild orchids and flying squirrels. Our second stop was at a native people village, where we learned about their traditions - for example, we saw how they hunt for food and how they grow fruits (mango, banana, durian, cocoa). The highlights of trip were the stops at tea plantations in Cameron Highlands. We got to drink different flavours of tea produced there and we also bought some packs to take home. Another stop was at strawberry farms, where we ate a lot of delicious strawberries grew there. Our lunch was at a traditional Indian-Malay restaurant, in the heart of Cameron Highlands. After lunch, we stopped at a local market, were we tried white corn and longan fruits, grew in the region. We liked that we weren't rushed at any stop and we could take our time to really enjoy the experience. The journey to and from Cameron Highlands was quite long, but in the end it was worth it.Cameron Highlands tour with Joell

We all really enjoyed our day out with Joell. We messaged before the day to check everything out and he suggested moving the pick up time to a bit earlier so we missed some of the traffic on the tour. We are really glad he suggested a new time as we saw a lot of traffic and visitors when we had finished seeing the sites that were still on their way to the sites. Joell was very informative about where we were going and the history of the area. He took us to local food places and ordered food for us so we could sample lots of different food. We had a really great day with Joel, who brought us to Mossy Forest and Cameron Highlands. Joel is a very nice person with huge knowledge of Malaysia, the people, the food and the history. The 3 hours drive to Mossy Forest didn't really feel like that long as he explained a lot. Mossy forest is a nice place to be, especially as it is the oldest forest in Malaysia. We skipped the tea ceremony, strawberry picking and butterfly farm. Therefore, after a nice lunch he brought us to a very remote place, a historic tea factory with nearly no tourists and a very beautiful viewpoint. We have great respect because Joel, driving the car for the whole way there and back plus up to the Mossy Forest and bringing us around for a total of 13 hours with huge traffic jam at the end, never lost his good mood and smile. Der Tag mit Joell in die Cameron Highlands war sehr spannend.Wir haben sehr viel über Land und Leute in Malaysia gelernt. Wir hatten gute Gespräche. Teils hat Joell ein bisschen zuviel eigene Meinung und persönliche Ansichten ins Gespräch gebracht. Vom Ausflug selber haben wir uns mehr erhofft, vorallem das wir mehr über die Highlands und Tee erfahren. Der Stopp auf dem Teefeld mit Restaurant war gut, jedoch fehlten uns Informationen zum Herstellungsprozess vom Tee. Für uns war es nur ein schöner Spaziergang durch diese Teefelder, das hätten wir auch alleine machen können.

Joell is an excellent guide. He made sure we had a basic understanding of the culture of the highland people and their current needs. We first went to lovely waterfalls and a local market where he made sure we sampled local fruit, even buying us Jack fruit slices from a freshly cut giant fruit. We saw numerous native Villages , visited a hydroponic strawberry farm where he served us strawberries and whipped cream. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to a tea plantation. We then had a delicious lunch in a native restaurant and then had tea at another tea plantation. During the entire trip Joell was very kind to us. He made sure that we had no problems getting to difficult locations substituting ones that were more suitable for older people. Joell is a good man, his treatment of us was not part of his job. I went on a day trip with Joell to Cameron Highlands. It's a bit of a drive from KL, but Joell made sure that I was comfortable the whole time and was able to tell me all about the flora in the area, he was very knowledgeable! The Highlands were gorgeous and well worth the drive! Joell knows so much about the area that he was able to avoid the worst of the traffic (we went on a Saturday) and he picked out some of the loveliest spots to take me too. Der Ausflug mit Koeln war fantastisch! Wir haben den Ausflug für zwei Personen gebucht,da wir nicht die typischen Ziele wie "Strawberryfarm" machen wollten. Joel hat die Reise für uns individuell angepasst, sodass wir genug Zeit hatten in den Cameron Highlands durch die Teeplantagen zu laufen. Das Vergnügen die Cameron Highlands so nah zu erleben hat man auf anderen Touren selten. This was an amazing day exploring Malaysia with Joell! He was a fantastic guide and the sights he took us to were amazing. This is a must do tour, it gets you out of the city and out into the real Maylasia countryside. The lunch place that Joell stops at has some of the best food in Maylasia... amazing! This trip was definitely the highlight during our holiday in Malasya. The road to Cameron Highlands was great and the place itself beautiful, but the experience during that full day given to us by Joell was AMAZING! Obviously as Tourist you rely on the arrangement with the company you booked your trip with. It took a few hours to go there but it was worth it. So happy with the experience and it is all thanks to our lovely guide Joell. It was a very well planned trip so we had time to see a lot of different things. Joell was half an hour late and brought his wife along for the trip, because of "security reasons" which I didn't understand. He was very nice and tried to accommodate us and the car was clean. It was a very long journey to Cameron Highlands. He needs more experience because he did not know where the Mossy Forest was. We wasted a lot of time trying to find it. It wasn't in the itinerary but I wanted to go. Also, instead of taking us to see lavender fields, he took us to an apartment complex called Lavender Park. Didn't know much knowledge about the history. The tour was very expensive and it is comprehensible because of the distance (3 hours from KL) but not worth it. Day Trip to Cameron Highlands

The Cameron Highlands were extremely beautiful, and we cannot thank Joell enough for taking us on this huge day tour. However, for us there was a couple of downsides. Be careful of weekend traffic. It took 4.5 hours either way to the Highlands, so we left at 9pm and arrive home at 9pm only spending 3 hours in the area. While Joell was awesome, another Withlocals host came with us in the car. He was quite large so my girlfriend was a bit cramped in the back, and he wouldn't get off his phone. That said, thank you Joell for an awesome day. Amazing scenery but extremely tiring
