It was 40°C when we landed in Dubai after 14 hours in the air from Sydney. The air was hazy, the traffic stationary as our driver battled to get us to the meeting point on time. I phoned Kasim's number on the voucher, but it was disconnected. A worrying sign. Ten minutes late, but we arrived and saw a man standing outside the station looking worried. I waved. Yes! It was our guide. But not Kasim. He introduced himself as Michael Peter. He explained that Kasim was unable to attend, and he had been asked to replace him. And with that we were off on a fabulous history, food and walking tour through the restayrants, shops and markets of new old Dubai and old old Dubai (accessed by crossing the creek in a small wooden boat). We tasted a mezze mix (eggplant dip, hummus dip, and tabbouleh) washed down with refreshing cucumber and rosewater, then strolled through a huge gold market, and a spice market then took a boat across the very wide "creek" to old old Dubai, where in a waterfront restaurant we had a selection of falafels and other tasty bites washed down with mint and lemon. After walking through more markets, we walked past the old fort, and arrived at a restaurant specialising in camel burgers. Delicious! All of this had been accompanied by Michael Peter's commentary on the history and culture of Dubai. But by now we were full, a bit jet lagged and after a wonderful 3 hours we were ready to head back to our hotel for a rest from the journey and from the Dubai heat. Michael Peter found us a taxi, and we left, satisfied that we had had exactly the experience that we had hoped for. We knew a huge amount more about Dubai's past and present, and had eaten our fill of some delicious local food and drink. Michael Peter was knowledgeable, friendly and at all times he looked out for our safety and well being when crossing roads or going over uneven ground ( being an older couple in our 60s). Overall, a wonderful experience that we will never forget!A hot time in old Dubai

I think this service is really hit or miss depending on if you get the guide you book. Unfortunately, Kasim wasn't able to provide the tour but appointed another guide to take us. This guide was just okay. He didn't seem to know a lot about the food and wasn't able to support requested dietary accommodations. This was the most expensive tour we booked while in Dubai and I don't know if it was worth the price. Hope you get your guide!

Sandy is an absolutely amazing guide. He is kind, friendly and very knowledgable. The tour was a wonderful mix of Dubai history and tasting the most delicious foods. Sandy is very passionate about the food and the tours and you get to enjoy areas you wouldn't necessarily go to without having local knowledge. We eat a mainly vegetarian diet but sometimes have fish. Our diet was perfectly catered for! The grilled sea bass with Arabic spices was a particular highlight!! My husband and I had a lovely experience with Sandy. We had great food and soo much food we were stuffed. My husband is vegetarian and his dietary needs were met at all spots. We did the streetfood tour with Sandy and a had a great time. The communication was good and Sandy gave us good explanation about the meeting point, as well as the traffic at this time. The range of food was excellent and we visited restaurants, which we would never had found on our own as tourists. Sandy is a great tour guide and we got special prices at the spice market as the sellers know him. He made our trip to Dubai very special as we love to experiance local food on our vacations. Kasim was not available so Melwyn showed us around. It was a really interesting and yummy tour. In addition to trying some delicious food, and telling us about the history of Dubai, we got an in depth understanding of life as an immigrant to this crazy city. He’s certainly not a newcomer, having been here for more than 20 years, but the gap between the Emiratis and all the others who make the economy and society run is very real. We ate traditional Lebanese in one of the oldest buildings in the city, chicken and shrimp by the water, and camel burgers in a family home turned restaurant. They were distinct experiences and getting from one to another was where the experience was. We had a limited time in Dubai and this was a terrific way to get a totally different experience of the city. Would highly recommend!Fascinating tour with Melwyn

This was a fabulous tour for my family (my husband and I and 3 adult sons)! We were very stressed arriving to the tour because our Taxi driver took the wrong way, got stuck in traffic and tried dropping us off where we weren’t supposed to be. I communicated this to Sandy and he was very happy, understanding and energetic despite us being 15 min late. We tried so many foods and snacks. Loved Sandy’s enthusiasm for food and culture and the 3 he tour flew by! Thanks for a wonderful time!!Highly recommend!!!

Gomez, Sandy & Sruthy communicated well via whatsapp and was quite understanding when the group wasn't at the meeting place on time. It was a very engaging food tour where the group was able to try a lot of different food items with enough time to look around should you choose to do so in between meals. We have booked a foodtour in the old part of Dubai with Kasim which was then led by Melwyn. Being very friendly and open-minded, gave us interesting insights into traditional food and cultural aspects of the country. We quickly got into a lively exchange with him. The food locations were very well selected and covered the Arabian cousine. The tour was anything but hurried and Melwyn even dropped us off at the metro station after the end of the tour. We enjoyed a few hours with Sandy experiencing the sights, sounds and tastes of Old Dubai. The spice and gold markets were really interesting. Sandy was able to help us navigate the gold trade in a way that we could never have done on our own. The water taxi was a unique experience as well. Wir haben eine großartige Food Tour in Dubai in der Altstadt gemacht. Die Tour war ein tolles Erlebnis mit vielen Leckereien, die wir zum Teil sonst nie probiert hätten. Wir haben den Gold-Souk und den Gewürz-Souk besucht, wo wir einige schöne Schätze gefunden und gekauft haben. Wir haben Eis aus Kamelmilch probiert, das sehr cremig und erfrischend war. Es gab tolle Snacks in verschiedenen Restaurants, die man unbedingt mal wieder aufsuchen sollte, wenn man wieder in Dubai zu Gast ist. Dazu gab es eine Wassertaxifahrt über den nächtlichen Dubai-Creek, der wunderschön beleuchtet war. Unser Guide war sehr sympathisch, witzig und informativ. Er hat uns viel über die Geschichte und Kultur von Dubai erzählt und uns viele Tipps gegeben. Es war ein fantastischer Abend mit einem tollen Guide, dem wir jedem empfehlen können, der die kulinarische Vielfalt von Dubai entdecken möchte.Großartige Foodtour

Sandy Nat hat uns auf einer Privattour 3 Stunden durch die Souks und die Altstadt geführt und wir hätten es nicht besser treffen können. Er ist so freundlich und aufgeschlossen, vermittelt mit viel Freude die arabische Kultur und erklärt sehr geduldig auch kleinste Details. Für uns verging die Zeit wie im Fluge, alle Gerichte und Lokalitäten waren sehr gut ausgesucht und passten harmonisch zueinander. Im Nachhinein können wir kaum fassen, über wie viele Themen wir in der kurzen Zeit gesprochen haben. Sandy ist auch speziell auf unseren Wunsch eingegangen, den Gewürzsouk als Schwerpunkt der Tour herauszustellen. Sandy spricht fließend und akzentfrei Englisch, was für uns mit Deutsch als Muttersprache wichtig war. Umso erstaunter waren wir, dass er auch gut deutsch spricht und dies für seine Touren zukünftig noch weiter ausbauen möchte. Deshalb schreiben wir diese Rezension auch gerne auf Deutsch. My wife and I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a culinary journey through Old Dubai, guided by the ever-knowledgeable Sandy. This captivating adventure was a delightful blend of flavors, aromas, and cultural immersion, taking us through the heart of this historic gem. Sandy's warm greeting set the tone for the day. His passion for Dubai's history and cuisine was evident from the start. Our day kicked off with a sumptuous Emirati snack of a Regag with a refreshing saffron, cucumber and lemon drink. As we walked to the Gold Souk we stopped and sampled ice cream made with camel’s milk. In the spice district Sandy introduced us to exotic spices and herbs, sharing their history and uses. The fabric district was a colorful adventure. Boarding the traditional water taxi, or abra, was a highlight. Sandy explained the historic role of abras in Dubai's development. Once we crossed the Dubai Creek we sampled Shawarma, hummus and mutabal with pitas, falafels, tabbouleh. From there we walked to our final stop where we tried camel burgers - delicious! Thanks to Sandy’s local expertise each location we visited anticipated our arrival and we seamlessly entered each restaurant and the food was ready within minutes. Throughout the tour, Sandy's passion for his city's culture and cuisine was infectious. His historical insights added depth to every experience. He ensured we left with full stomachs and a profound understanding of Old Dubai's traditions. I couldn't have asked for a more enriching and enjoyable day. Sandy war pünktlich, sehr nett, aufgeschlossen und kommunikativ und hat uns sehr viel Spannendes über das wirkliche Leben in Dubai erzählt. Es gibt nichts Besseres als Infos und Tipps aus erster Hand, und erst noch ganz entspannt als Privattour! Die Verkostungen in authentischen Lokalen waren allesamt sehr lecker und in der Summe so reichlich, dass wir zuletzt nach Hause "rollten" :-) Wir können withlocals und Sandy nur empfehlen und werden, wenn wir wieder einmal in Dubai sind, auf jeden Fall eine weitere Tour mit Sandy buchen!Spannend, authentisch, lecker!

We took two tours with Sandy & Gomez while in Dubai - Food experience & a private day tour. Never could we have seen and experienced as much without them! Sandy is a true expert for the old Dubai ( delicious - a must see!) and Gomez took us to all the cool places of the new Dubai. Including a wonderful mosque. Both are dedicated guides for your individual journey. We had amazing two days with them and truely regret that we could not spent another day with them. We had the tour with Melwyn instead of Kasim. Melwyn is very knowledgable about the city, its history, food and culture. We learned a lot — not just about the delicious bites Dubai has to offer but also about the city we would be staying in. we learned about the classics, about the spices, the cultural influence that have flowed into the region… he also managed to improvise well as the camel meat place closed early. We found Melwyn to be a smart, knowledgeable, kind and helpful guide and would book him again 100% when we return — or maybe again later during this stay. We didn’t actually have Kasim, as he was sick, but Michael jumped in at the last minute. The whole experience was brilliant from the start to the end. My partner and I did this tour as a gift for his birthday and we can totally recommend it! Sandy took us not only to local food places but also explained a lot about the life and culture in Dubai. He is a really friendly and open person and it was fun spending the time together.Great experience

We liked the experience with our lovely host Lucy, but thought it would be more diverse. We ate different small plates at one restaurant, it was more than enough food en very tasty but we thought we would actually walk through the old town and stop at several places to try their different specialties. We went halfway through the bazars crossed the creek by boat and finished the visit within 2 hours when the reservation was made for 3 hours. It was ok, and maybe for 2 people enough to show the common places but a bit confusing what we paid for in the end as we didn't benefit all 3 hours we paid for. Overall nice but a but expensive for 2 hours.Lovely food but tour was 1 hour short

My biggest regret about this experience was not doing it as soon as I arrived in Dubai. That way I could have revisited all the spots from the tour. Ali is a knowledgeable and generous host, and I felt that I was treated to a very special tour of local foods in all their diversity. As food provides insight to a culture, Ali provided insight into living in Dubai. He answered without hesitation any question I had no matter the subject. I felt that I got a revealing and very personal peek beyond the buildings and architecture of Dubai. If the value of a tour is how deeply it stays with you then my time with Ali was more than worth it. I will return home in search of the foods I tasted on the tour, and when I find them I’m sure they will bring back good memories.More Than a Ten
