We had the most wonderful afternoon with Andras, eating our way around Budapest. Andras was the perfect choice for us - we have an 18 year-old fascinated with history and politics so Andras’ knowledge and expertise was just what we’d hoped for. Our tour was scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m., but Nelli notified us in advance that she had a scheduling conflict. Fortunately, we were able to join two other guests, starting at 10:30 a.m. on the same day originally scheduled. We met at the Great Market and spent a good bit of time there. Nelli told us about Hungarian culture and foods. We also had goulash, bread, and a beer at Panorama Etelbar. It was very crowded in the dining area, but we were all able to sit together. The food was good, and we actually ate there again a couple of days later. This was our first time at the Great Market, and we enjoyed the time spent there. We then walked to Belvarosi Disznotoros, where we enjoyed a sausage, bread, and wine. We then had a langos and a chimney cake from a couple of food booths. Both were very good. Beata worked hard to give us a wonderful two days of the highlights of Budapest . A first day was a five hour tour where we went slowly and saw the highlights. She explained history, architecture, and with infectious enthusiasm, made us feel right at home in her city. The second day was a fantastic tour lasting little over three hours of the cuisine of the Hungarian culture. This worked out very well, and was extremely filling. Overall,Beata is an experienced, charming, and flexible guide. Whatever you desire to see, she will find a way, and make it most enjoyable. When we return again , I will seek her out for another glorious day.Wonderful two days.

Book Beata as a guide! That's the summary. The long version is: we have been to Hungary and Budapest already a few times so, we know the classic stuff. Tibi was so amazing. I had an amazing food tour with him. He went at a perfect pace all the food options were items I would not have picked and loved them all. He mixed in a nice anount of history and even food history. I learned the difference between Hungarian stew and soup!! In the US we have it all wrong. He even shared personal photos of preparation. Emoke led us on a private tour starting at the Great Hall food market and ending near the Jewish quarter. We spent a good deal of time in the market first trying several typical foods such as goulash, cabbage and layered potatoes. Then we toured the vast market and sampled a few things along the way. We also learned about some of the local spirits. After leaving the market, we walked to a number of shops and restaurants to sample sausages, chocolates, traditional cakes, chimney cake and langos. Emoke was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the city, history and food of Budapest. We really enjoyed a discussion about her family history and experience during the communist era. Overall, we had a good sampling of the food of Budapest and learned interesting information about the history of the city. A nice touch to arrive with pogacas which were delicious. A great mix of history, customs and food and drink with some great local restaurants serving the best local delicacies. Beata was a wonderful host: welcoming, funny and knowledgeable. The tour was a fantastic journey, eating market delicacies such as strudel, salami, honey and of course paprika! But we were delighted to be taken to a restaurant for food and wine also, as well as being given lots of information about Budapest and Magyar culture, history and society more generally. My 16 year old son loved the street art, the ruin bar and the chimney cake the most; my husband and myself enjoyed the goulash and the conversation. Please don’t hesitate to book Beata for this tour as it is such a warm and insightful way to experience Budapest. I have offered to share our local delicacy (the Staffordshire oatcake) with Beata if she’s ever in the UK but somehow I don’t think it will compare! ;)Perfect food and conversation!
