Our tour with Hoa was perfect. Hoa was fun, enthusiastic, kind and really engaging. She was full of information for the adults and lots of fun for our kids. She went to extra trouble to engage with our girls and find their interests. We walked around the Old Quarter, went to Train Street, rode on cyclos and went to two places for beautiful food. Hoa was disappointed with the food we had eaten earlier in the day when we showed her photos and took us to an extra place for amazing dry Pho at the end of our tour which went extra time as a result. The banh mi we had with her was also incredible. The tour was a highlight of our 2 days in Hanoi.Amazing tour with Hoa

We booked a food tour with Hoa for our first day in Hanoi and it was the best decision we made on our trip. She was knowledgeable, personable, and tailored the experience to our preferences. We were a bit jet lagged and overwhelmed and Hoa helped perk us up and get our bearings in the chaos that is Hanoi. Would recommend Hoa to anyone looking for great food and company. Adults loved the tour. It was interesting and the kids learned a fun game too! The teaching at the lake was wonderful. Our kids are still talking about being “fish dragons”! I do wish there would have been more time at the market to actually shop. Bring food along if your kids are not into Vietnamese food. Hoa is lovely! I was in Hanoi on a business trip and had a very limited amount of time to do any sightseeing. I stumbled across "With Locals" and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. After a great experience when using withlocals in Malaysia , we decided to try it again in Hanoi. Our initial contact with our guide was promising, but the tour was changed to another guide without explanation. We booked a family friendly walking tour which promised a lot of special child friendly stuf, but got a standard walking tour. The tour was nice and visiting a ceremony in a hidden temple was great, but just not what we booked. Except for the temple, we could have dome the tour by ourselves. The guide was friendly, nothing bad about her, but thr experience was disappointing all in all.Disappointing tour, not what we booked

Of course there were thorough explanations, great communication, really all the stuff you would expect from a tour guide. But the things that made this tour really amazing for me: Loads of small restaurants that there were no way I'd find alone that were awesome! Took me shopping and negotiated for me! Talked about the economic situation and history of Vietnam in an easy to understand but interesting way. Talked about things like the effect of the pandemic, differences in culture for different areas of Vietnam, and what day to day life is like here. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get a really well-rounded Hanoi experience in just a few hours.Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly

Fabulous! What an insight Hoa gave us into Hanoi. From the old part of the city, to the French Quarter to the ‘tiger cages’ and the original egg coffee cafe we loved it all. We could never have learnt so much on our own. Hoa tailored everything to our needs and questions and took care of us throughout. We loved her stories and the explanations she gave us. Hoa was efficient, spoke truly excellent English and even before meeting her was in regular contact to ensure everything went to plan. Hoa willingly accommodated our big group of 16 people and even extended our tour time since it is slower moving about with our big group and upon our request, she patiently waited for us to be ready because we had to finish our hotel arrangements. Hoa is friendly, easy to talk to and speaks English well. She took us around 6 hidden & authentic local dining places we wouldn't have discovered. We especially liked the pho, various desserts and fried shrimp fritters. We also had a taste of the creamy egg coffee from the original place where it was created (Cafe Dinh), banh mi, fresh spring roll, and various fried food. Along the way, Hoa pointed out places of interest. Overall, it was a good introduction to Vietnamese street food in places where locals eat.Good street food experience in Hanoi

From the first interaction with Hoa it was evident we were in for a special experience. Coming off a cruise ship in Ha Long Bay transport was arrange for us to meet up with Hoa in Hanoi. What an experience! Hoa was so knowledgeable, bright and funny. A truly genuine person who answered all of our questions about Vietnams food, culture and way of life. We really enjoyed our tour with Hoa as she introduced us to lots of new foods and to customs of Vietnamese people in the Old Quarter in Hanoi. Hoa was very personable and we enjoyed our time with her as she explained and demonstrated how to eat the foods, from how to mix the ingredients to what to add to the bowl first. We had 2 great tours with Hoa. In the morning, she showed us around Hanoi. In addition to the must-sees in Hanoi, she told us a lot about the life of the Vietnamese. In the evening, she showed us her favorite street food spots. Every street food dish was a taste sensation. She explained so much to us about how it is prepared, which families are behind it and much more. You could feel and see that she loves introducing people to Vietnamese culture. I’m so glad that I took a tour with Hoa. She communicated well beforehand which we discussed my interests. She tailored the tour to my expectations which was more on the less touristy landmarks and more on the hidden alleys & less known temples and pagodas. We booked a custom Highlights & Food tour of Hanoi with Hoa and had a blast. We saw the best of the old & French quarters, including authentic parts and markets not sure we would have found on our way. We also learned how to walk the streets amongst the motorcycles :) And then we also tried all of the amazing food that Hanoi has to offer: egg coffee, bahn mi, Bun Cha Dac - Michelin rated, and many more. While the original tour time was 4 hours, the tour stretched to 5 until we just couldn't eat anymore :) Thank you, Hoa for showing us this incredible city and being so generous with your time and the food. My friend and I book this "Highlights and Hidden Gems of Hanoi" at the last minute. Because we were last minute we were worried we wouldn't be able to find a good guide, but saw Hoa was available and had good ratings so we booked the tour with her. When we arrived at the meeting point, we realized that someone else had been called to cover for Hoa. We kept an open mind considering that this was last minute and thought that the person replacing Hoa would also be qualified. We were expecting to be guided by a knowledgable local, someone well-versed in the history and culture of this vibrant city. Unfortunately, it became evident during the tour that our guide was not prepared. She brought along her husband on whom she relied a lot to answer basic questions. She referred to the online description tour on her cellphone to know where to go next, and would simply bring us to there. At said locations, there was very little explanations or descriptions of where we were, except for what we could see four ourselves (ex: "this is a temple, you can see there are animal paintings on the walls, here is a cat, a phoenix, a snake, etc.). A big part of the tour was spent at the prison, where our guide was telling us the information that was already on the exhibit descriptions. Also, between the stops throughout the tour, our guide was walking way ahead of us chatting with her husband. We almost lost track of her a few times. Our primary motivation for choosing a guided tour was to gain a deeper insight into Hanoi's history and culture. Even with a last minute booking, we believe that a tour should provide substantial value and knowledge to participants. In hindsight, we realized that we could have explored Hanoi independently and obtained similar information through readily available resources. This raised questions about the value of having a guide accompany us. We understand that challenges can arise, but ensuring that tour guides possess an understanding of the destinations they lead is crucial. We would rather have waited for a qualified guide that would be available later than have this experience, especially for the price we paid. However, the app let us to believe a competent guide would be available in 2 hours so we happily jumped on the opportunity. Mixed Experience

Really enjoyed my food tour with Hoa in Hanoi. She paid close attention to my preferences and made adjustments as needed. She’s also very knowledgeable about the local culture and was eager to engage in conversation. While Vietnamese food is delicious, I did notice a repetition of ingredients throughout the tour, which led to a lack of variety over time. My only other issue wasn’t with Hoa, but the stools at some places were uncomfortable for someone tall like me.Great introduction to vietnamese cuisine!

it wasn't easy for either party in the rain, but some things could be done better: (1) the meeting point itself is not so clear, would be better to have a street address with a building number (2) change of meeting point by the host on short notice: I would rather prefer to get picked up at the hotel for an extra charge. Our hotel was a bit far away in Thuy Khue street, so we studied the meeting point carefully in advance and had a plan to get there in due time by public bus. We had a good buffer of 30 minutes and reached well on time, but due to the short noted change of meeting point we had to rush at the end: had to book a grab car and get on it in heavy traffic at a difficult location, eventually met our host with a short delay. Would have been better to just change the itinerary, even better to skip or shorten a destination, if there is a problem with closing entrance time. Or give a different meeting point from the beginning when the tour is starting after 2pm or so. (3) the snack/drink highlight was unfortunately a disappointment. As it is a part of the tour program I expected we can sit comfortably for that and have a chat, but we just grabbed our drink on the go within few minutes while standing on the street. During a 3 hour walk it is definitely nicer if you can sit down for a while. Seemed the guide was much focused on walking down a fixed schedule. I would not consider this prison as such a highlight or least you would not so necessarily need a guide to visit there. In my view we spent too much time in there, it was too crowded and I always tried a bit pushing to get out quicker. Also, after visiting the prison there was more rain outside. The other way round, without changing the meeting point, possibly would have been the better option after all. Wouldn't mind to have only short time in the prison and end the tour with a free Q&A over a coffee (but seated please).not so easy in rain but can be better

What an awesome way to spend out first day in Hanoi. We love Vietnamese food so it was an amazing experience for Hoa to show us where the locals eat. The food was delicious and she was very kind and patient. The egg coffee spot was my favorite.Hanoi delicious

Hoa was very knowledgeable and provided us with interesting facts and information during the tour. She was very warm and friendly and ensured we were all happy and looked after for the whole day. This tour is beautiful in that (at the moment) it is not mobbed with tourists. The caves we visited invoked a lot of steps but were quiet and clean. The temples were interesting and Hoa gave us so much history about them and the surrounding area. The bird sanctuary was stunning and unlike some of the other places we visited litter was not a massive problem. The cycle was fun but we had hoped to cycle a little more in the countryside rather than along the road. We hope this tour remains as pretty as it was and that it is kept in the condition we found it in. Thank you to Hoa for such a memorable day. Beautuful tour with an excellebt guide.

Hoa was a wonderful tour guide of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. This tour is an excellent way to get acquainted with that area of the city and learn about a few of the highlights. Hoa also guided us through the central market and gave great insight into current Vietnamese life. Highly recommended!Excellent tour!

My husband and I did a tasting tour with Hoa. As a guide she is enthusiastic and energetic and shares many insights into the cuisine of Vietnam but also the history and culture of the country. We decided to book a food tour with Hoa on our very first day in Hanoi. Overall, it was truly an unforgettable and exciting experience. Hoa showed us the best places to eat (lots of hidden gems) and shared many interesting facts about the city. I would highly recommend this experience everyone visiting Hanoi.
