We enjoyed our tour with Andre. He was very enthusiastic to share the history of Porto with us; show us the key sites and also some lesser known features of this lovely city. If there was a slight flaw it was that the tour went on slightly too long and we had to ask Andre to end it perhaps before he was ready to.A wonderful story teller

Andre was amazing. With 9 ladies it is hard to move around and get all the taste put together, but Andre made it an amazing experience. We loved seeing the city, trying the foods and drinks. A few days before our tour, I contacted the tour guide and advised him that I don’t eat pork. The tour guide confirmed that he could make food substitutions to accommodate my dietary restriction. Despite this assurance, during the tour itself, the tour guide complained about how hard it was to find non-pork alternatives. Since I had just participated in a different food tour in Lisbon, and that tour guide had no difficulty with finding non-pork options, I was surprised by how much of an issue this seemed to have caused. Separately from the dietary restriction issue, most of the food was cold fried foods or cold baked goods. We learned more about Porto in those 3 hours than in the rest of our visit plus previous visits. We had never fancied trying bifanas but the ones André found for us were nothing like the pictures we had seen. They were excellent, as was the rest of the food we tasted. André even took note of my request for a taste of Tripas à moda do Porto although he wasn’t able to find a dish at short notice. We learned the history of the establishments we visited and he also told us the story behind the buildings. The best 3 hours of our visit

My husband and I really enjoyed our walk with Andres. We opt for private walks because we always have so many questions about the history, architecture, culture, art, etc of places we are visiting and are able to learn so much more. André is a fantastic guide--very knowledgeable and friendly, with a wealth of information about the city. My one regret is that I didn't pay closer attention to the website when booking because one of the reasons I chose With Locals was the advertised option to go on a tour that highlighted "hidden gems" and a local experience. André's profile noted his love of music and I was hoping the tour would revolve around that interest at least in part, but I now realize I should have hit the "customize this experience" button when booking. My mistake, but if that's what you're hoping for as well, be sure to request in advance.

We felt confident he was showing us some of the better places to try typical food items. Places we would not have found on our own. Andre was a great guide with the perfect laid back vibe for our family with two teenagers. The 90 minutes flew by and yet we saw so much more than we ever would have on our own. He knew exactly where we could get in without needing to wait in a long line, great local information and by the end we were well-oriented to Porto and able to navigate to a few of the other places we wanted to check out in more depth. We are a family of 4 and had a fantastic day out in the Douro Valley with André. The highlights of the tour were the viewing stops, breath-taking views, little cafes, restaurants and bars we went into plus the excellent choice of bespoke vineyard we visited for port tasting. André is very knowledgeable and passionate about his home territory, great information and good rapport. Even the small local village we went to had the most amazing church. So impressive. Big shout out for the Quinta do Tedo port tour, personal walk-through and very enjoyable. Also great to have pick up and drop off at rental apartment. Full day but well worth it and very memorable. For the money, it was not worth it. The first stop he went inside and brought us out some bread with meat in it that we had to eat while we were walking down the street. At one stop we were given wine. A family member does not drink wine and no alternative drink (water would have been appreciated) was offered. We went to the market and we were brought to a few stalls for a plate of cheese, codfish cakes. We could have done all of this ourselves without spending $238.00. Andre was okay but on the quiet side. I don't recommend this activity. Should Have Skipped This.

Andre picked us up promptly at 9AM even with the enormous construction project going on in the center of Porto. After a short drive we were on our way visiting Quinta Do Vallado where we were able to see up close the processing of the grapes, screening, pressing, filling the tanks and so on. Afterwards a quick stop at Sandeman for a tasting of their wonderful 30 year Tawny. Then we were whisked away to Quinto do Tedo. Smaller producer with some fine port wines. In Regua we chose to eat at Aneto & Table inside the old train station. Wonderfully food. Finally a stop in Provensende before the drive back to Porto. Andre was a perfect guide. Knows his history and knowledge of the wine industry in Portugal. Private day in the Douro Valley.
