I was worried about having a guide who wasn't born in Cadiz, but Joanna was so knowledgeable about both the history of the city and the culture of the place -- and seems to have so many friends here -- that it didn't matter one bit. Joanna was a complete joy!!! Our two hours went by too fast. From the moment she reached out to us to check on any dietary restrictions, or to find out if we had any time constraints, she was very focused on ensuring we would have a great experience. She shared fun stories about each of the local spots she took us to. She engaged with our daughters and kept us all in mind as we tried different local foods. We were sad to have our tour end. She even extended an extra 30 minutes to make sure we fully enjoyed our time in the market. The short time we shared with Joanna quickly became one of the highlights of our trip. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Joanna made our time in Cádiz unforgettable. She customized the tour based on things we wanted. We loved that she took us off the tourist path and ordered things for us to try. Joanna was an enthusiastic and engaging guide. She made us feel very comfortable straight away, gave us a view of the history of Cadiz and showed us some of the idiosyncrasies of the city. Some of the food experiences we would never have found on our own, she was able to talk about the provenance of the foods we tasted and we felt we were eating like the locals. Delighted to have joined Joanna’s food tasting tour. For over 3 hours she offered us a unique insight into the history, culture, traditions and gastronomy of Cádiz. She has a wealth of information to hand and conveys her love of this region with great passion. I am deliberately not posting details of the food and drinks that we sampled because that would spoil the fun ! Suffice to say that all tastings were bespoke to Cádiz so that uniqueness added so much more value to the experience. Joanna shared anecdotes, maps, restaurant and bar recommendations with us then forwarded details of all food, beverages and establishments visited the following day. We had a wonderful day with Joanna. She communicated very well with us before our tour day. The day itself was tailored to our interests and Joanna offered appreciated changes to our arrangements to cater for the inclement weather. We booked Joanna on the With Locals website and had to make a couple of amends to timing due to the weather forecast. Not a problem at all, and Joanna kindly agreed to meet us at the Parador where we were staying. This meant our itinerary had to be amended slightly but, honestly, you could not find a more enthusiastic, knowledgeable and inspirational guide to introduce you to this millennia old and very proud independent city. Cadiz is so charming, the people so lovely and the history quite breath taking. We met at 11.00 and, on the dot of 12 midday we were treated to a breakfast Jerez - a very dry Manzanilla - with olives to put a little extra spring in our step. Joanna's knowledge of Cadiz, having lived there for over six years, was awesome, her English of course perfect, and she is known by the traders in the food market, so a table quickly became reserved for us whilst we went around ordering specialist tapas. She had so many tips and contacts we are now able to tap into, including places to visit throughout the Cadiz province. So professional and lovely, we cannot recommend her enough! We had a fantastic food tour with Joanna. It could not have been better. She sent very clear directions on the meeting place and even though the place was crowded due to a festival, it was easy to find her. Joanna's has an excellent knowledge of the city and provided informative details of Cadiz history during the tour. Our stops were very well organized, even though it was a busy Saturday, and included sherry, olives, oysters, paella, local meats, and desserts. Well, in a nutshell Joanna was an awesome guide! She really took the time to personalize our fun filled day of sightseeing and food tastings across the entire island of Cadiz. We covered quite a bit of territory with perfectly timed stops at various food spots for Sherry, Cheese, Tapas, Hot Chocolate and a few sweets! Totally delicious! Joanna also did an amazing job of imparting local history as we roamed through the various areas of Cadiz. I have to say that visiting the local food marketplace was amazing as well. Really got to experience hanging out with the locals and trying out the local fare including fresh oysters just caught from the bay. My tour with Joanna was great. She was able to pick me up at the port gate since I was nervous and traveling alone with crappy phone service. She tailored the tour to the mood of the day. We had a fantastic few hours in Cadiz with Joanna. Arriving on a cruise ship she met us right outside the port. We were a family group of ages 8-70 and Joanna accommodated all very well. As fairly typical reserved Brits, we simply wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the variety and exquisite flavours of Cádiz without Joanna’s friendly expertise. We thoroughly enjoyed our day in Ca’di (Cadiz), and learned that is the actual locals pronunciation. We learned much about the history of Cadiz including and extremely tasty drink called Tinto de Verno. Make sure that you try it while there. A wonderful day in Ca’di.
