Gaetano is very knowledgeable about Palermo and its culture. My problem with the tour was the tastings. While the arance and cannoli were plentiful, the other tasting were less extensive than I’ve experienced in other food tours. For example, Gaetano took us to get a taste of almond milk. For a group of 4 we were given ONE glass of almond milk and ONE straw. Disappointed

Started with a beautiful day! Dario met us at predetermined location. We started out promptly with our first tasting, sfincionello from a street vendor. We had a nice time on our food walking tour with Dario. The variety of foods was plentiful, and we got to see a lot of the city. Would’ve liked a little more time at the market to shop, as we didn’t see anywhere else to shop after that. Luckily I was able to quickly grab some spices and sun-dried tomatoes! We found souvenirs and food related items were incredibly inexpensive in Palermo versus other stops on our cruise. Dario was very friendly and showed us lots of yummy new things! The Tastings of Palermo tour with Karolina was a highlight of our Mediterranean cruise. We enjoyed walking through the city’s neighborhoods, eating caponata, pasta, and pizza in the marketplace, then having fresh squeezed pomegranate juice, arancini, and finally the best connoli we ever had. To say that Michelangelo was an excellent would be such an understatement it would be insulting. Booking this tour with him was by far the best decision I could have made for my single day in Palermo (and I deeply regret only giving myself one day here). I had the joy of booking Michelangelo all to myself and it truly felt like I’d hired a friend for the day to show me around rather than a stranger. He read my adventurous vibe right out of the gate, always discussed the ingredients and my thoughts about trying something new, gave me the opportunity to have small portions so I could try as many things as possible before feeling so full I was going to burst, and was conscious of my desire not to waste food where possible. He gave great recommendations but also let me pursue food interests outside those recommendations and he pushed me to try new things in a friendly, no-pressure way. He took more circuitous routes when I expressed an interest in history and architecture, and never rushed me to eat faster or made me feel awkward about eating while someone watched you lol. We spent an amazing afternoon having out, eating great food, talking about travel, recommendations, culture, language, and whatever else came to mind. I had time after the tour to explore more of the city and by that point I felt like I had so much more context for the people and sights, and was so comfortable, that I was dancing around the city (sometimes literally - no regrets!) jamming out on my AirPods and taking photos for several hours while I walked off all the food. I could not recommend spending an afternoon with Michelangelo highly enough! Come with an open mind for new food and an about stomach and you will have a brilliant and unique experience in this gorgeous city. Thank you so much Michelangelo for spending such an amazing day with me! I loved every moment of it! (Even that really weird kinda-gross soda that you like. Upon further reflection, I stand by my assessment that it’s not awful, it is drinkable, but man is it a weird-bitter-sweet flavor!) Until we meet again, ciao!The Best Decision I Could Have Made

I had the best food tasting tour that I've ever been on with Gaetano. He took me on a tasting adventure thru the market and then into the town. Gaetano carefully explained the cultural aspects of the food and how they were to be eaten. By the end of the tour I was too full to eat the "cannolo" and brought it back to the cruise ship. I landed in Palermo after a 24 hr flight from Melbourne, Australia. It was my first time in Europe as a whole and I must say, arriving here was a huge culture shock. The locals spoke limited English, the taxi driver drove like a maniac and ripped me off (demanded €70 cash from airport to city without a taxi meter), and as I was walking around I felt locals staring at me which made me anxious about a potential robbery (especially as a 25 y.o female solo traveller). Upon landing in the morning and checking into my stay, I met up with Luca. Luca immediately put me at ease and I felt so much better being beside a local who understood where I was coming from. We walked around the town, trying all sorts of dishes. From the iconic grilled intestines to cannoli at the monastery, it was a real delight to have Luca accompany me. We made jokes, spoke about life, and all in all it was a nice experience. After my experience, I felt more at ease exploring Palermo on my own. Luca gave me recommendations about where and where not to go, as safety is compromised in certain areas and at certain hours of the day. Dario ist ein ausgesprochen freundlicher Palermitano, der an vielen Ecken Leute kannte und grüßte. Neben den Hintergründen zu den Gerichten gab er uns auch immer wieder Infos zum historischen Kontext und dessen Beziehung zu den lokalen Spezialitäten (bspw. Arancina / Arancino). Wir haben uns mit Dario von Anfang an sehr wohl gefühlt und gerne alles ausprobiert, was er uns angeboten hat. Bei einigen Streetfoods (bspw. Panelle), die wir zuvor bereits probiert hatten, konnte er uns noch besser schmeckende und tatsächlich frischer zubereitete Alternativen zeigen. Insgesamt war es von der Menge sehr viel und mehr als eine Mahlzeit pro Person, aber wer mit leerem Magen und offenem Herzen kommt, wird mit Dario eine fantastische Zeit haben. Karolina was very personable and very well informed about both the food and history of Palermo. We thoroughly enjoyed a casual relaxed walking tour that took us from delightful food markets and stalls to various restaurants ending at a renowned nunnery with the most exceptional dessert cannoli treats.
