Ratana was sweet, fun, very knowledgeable particularly about the temples and city history. She was kind and chatted to all our family including our children. This tour focussed mainly on the several Buddhist temples that we visited, so if that’s what you mainly want then this tour is fine. The only reason we have to mark the tour with Ratana down was that we paid for a 3 hour tour (which isn’t cheap for 5 people) but it wrapped up just under 2.5 hours. If it’s a 2.5 hour tour it should be sold as that with the price relative.

Naphat was an amazing guide!! She shared much about Buddhist teachings, open-mindedness and kindness in the Thai way of life. Our only regret is that we wished we could have spent more time with her! We had a fantastic day out with Naphat, we were so glad she was able to cater for our very last minute booking :) We visited the white temple and blue temple in Chiang Rai and we were able to understand both the history & cultural context of both as well as get a really good insight into Thai Buddhism which underlies behaviour and belief systems - super interesting and we really appreciated how open Naphat was to our questions - she was genuinely excited to share! The white temple was the highlight and really understanding it made a huge difference (i had visited previously by myself and it was really quite a shallow experience!) I’ve lived in Thailand for 10 years and i still learnt a lot about what makes the Thai people tick from just one day with Naphat! Highly recommended, really friendly, helpful and professional! Our driver was also very good - smooth ride, felt very safe and comfortable, necessary for that long drive!

What a way to spend our first night in chiang mai . Uthaiwan is an exceptional guide and a beautiful soul . Khun Eddie suggested a food tour through a very local market in Lamphun (about an hour's drive from Chiang Mai city which we had to top-up the original cost ). It was a good suggestion and very interesting experience with the local sights, sounds. We managed to try a selection of food (about 7-8 types) throughout the day, some dishes are unlikely to be found in the city. Eddie also brought us to the Hari Phun Chai museum and a couple of temples. Given that it was a private tour, we were free to decide what and how long we wanted to spend at each location. Khun Eddie also gave us some good restaurant suggestions for when we returned to the city.Interesting experience food tour local mkt

I cannot say enough amazing things about Eddie. He showed us some of the best food in the city that we would have never found on our own. After plans fell through with another agency, my family last minute booked a trip with Naphat to Chiang Rai- and we couldn’t be more pleased! She was so accommodating to all of our needs and allowed us flexibility to craft our own schedule, prioritizing the sights we wanted to see. We visited the blue and white temples, both of which she had a wealth of information for. She was able to share so much insight about Thai history and cultural beliefs and practices, also the symbolism present in both of the temples. We would have had such a stunted experience at these places without her guidance. I can also say her presence is very friendly and warm (and she is so patient!) - it is quite enjoyable to pass the day with her. Also no worries for language barriers, as her English is exceptional. She communicates everything very well and it is easy to understand her. She went above and beyond to be helpful towards us and make sure we had a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s my first time booking on this site and everything went well. Our tour guide’s name was Ae and she was awesome. Not only was she very informative about the local area, but also good with kids. The food on the tour was amazing. It gave us a chance to try a bunch of local places without us having to try to find them ourselves. I will preface my review by stating that this was the 4th Withlocals tour we had booked in Thailand and the previous 3 tours were all stellar, 10 out of 10 experiences. Because of that, we had extremely high hopes for our final Withlocals tour in Chiang Mai. We met Richard for the Night Markets & Street Food tour on a Sunday evening, which we booked specifically because the Chiang Mai night market is a huge event that night of the week. After meeting our guide Richard, he walked us to the Chang Phuak Market. At that one location we sampled 4 dishes over the span of 40 minutes. Richard then guided us toward the night market which was just a few blocks south and offered us one final dish at a stop along the way. We arrived at the night market 70 minutes after our tour began and Richard then parted ways with us. We had booked him for a 150 minute tour. We had fully expected to see some of the night market with our guide as that was explicitly stated in the name of the tour. That did not happen. The other 3 Withlocals tour guides we booked in Thailand over the previous week guided us for the full length of time stated in the descriptions of their tours. This tour lasted for less than half of the time it was advertised to be. Incredible let down

We loved our tour with Ae. She took us around to all of the off the beaten path places where the locals eat (which is exactly what we asked for). We got to try a lot of different foods that we would never have tried on our own, and she gave us some great background on the history of Chiang Mai in the process. We loved trying so.many things (it was really fun to go through the market and have her show us how to pick out and eat some different fruits than we get at home...) We had a great evening, and would definitely recommend a tour with Ae to give you a thorough orientation of the Chiang Mai Street food scene. A definite highlight!Local food with a friend!

We had the pleasure of a memorable 3 hours with our guide Naphat. During this tour we would visit several venues where we would taste 5 (or more) dishes. Naphat informed us that we would be tasting Chiang Mai's signature street food and that all the vendors had been vetted for their quality. We began with a tasting of arguably Chiang Mai's famous street food Khao Soi Gai. We also purchased some Khao Kha Moo and sat down to eat. They were both delicious and perfectly represented the amazing complex flavours in Thai cuisine. I have to say that the Khao Kha Moo was my favourite with its delectable gooey gelatinous pork melting in our mouths. Next we visited a local food market where we purchased some Sai Oua (Pork Sausage) and Chiang Mai's street food version of KFC. We stood on a bridge looking over Chiang Mai's night time lights twinkling over the river while we ate our delicious food with some sticky rice. Naphat has a infectious charismatic personality and we found ourselves deep in philosophical conversation between mouthfuls of delectable Thai street food. We thoroughly recommend Naphat. You will love her company and the food that she presents.Chiang Mai never tasted better

Eddie was so knowledgeable about the history of Thailand/Chiang Mai It made our trip much more enjoyable as we better understood the cultural and historical background of the sites. He also took us to a local place (open for 40 + years) where they served the BEST mango sticky rice! He then helped us with booking a customized tour for the next day which took us to see various temples (with an ex/monk as guide) elephants (ethically) and a small village of Kayan/karen peoples which was interesting and enlightening! What can we say about Naphet ? We met as planned on Wednesday morning and were very excited to begin our tour of the hidden Gems of Chiang Mai. Within 5 minutes we knew we had met one of them! Naphet is exceptional with her kindness, insight, and knowledge, she patiently educated us in Buddhism and Thai Culture. Each temple we visited was special and she explained why as well as the historical background of Chiang Mai. Under her guidance we became comfortable paying our respects correctly to the Buddha and the Monks. In one temple we received a blessing from the Monk and in another we got the opportunity to hang a wish like the local Thai people . We feel very lucky to have met Naphet. Without this tour we would have been wandering around on our own trying to gain an insight into the Thai way of life. To conclude our tour she brought us around the local market , explaining the different foods and produce that are available . The variety was amazing, and new to us. We concluded the tour with lunch in the market with the local people. Thank you Naphet you were above and beyond our expectations . We had an absolutely wonderful experience with our food tour guide, Ae, in Chiang Mai! From the moment we met, she was incredibly kind and patient, especially with our 5-year-old. When our little one accidentally lost his toy jeep at the market and was visibly upset, she handled the situation with such care and understanding. To our surprise, later that evening, she thoughtfully arranged for a jeep to be sent to our hotel — a truly kind gesture that touched us all. Throughout the tour, Ae took us to local markets, introducing us to a variety of interesting and delicious foods. Having visited Chiang Mai on several occasions but have never had a more fulfilling day than when I spent time with Ratana. She has lived in Chiang Mai all her life and it shows. Her smile is as infectious as her personality! My request to her was a day of immersion into the local community and culture, away from the typical “tourist” atmosphere, and she delivered! I was able to get a feel for the logistical aspects of the overall city and visit some smaller Wats and villages as well. I was able to see the local markets and how the locals traded, she explained the proper etiquette when shopping and was able to communicate with the vendors to help me understand the different foods and their applications. We did the 10 tastings food tour with Uthaiwan on the first day we landed in Chiang Mai, and would 110% recommend it! Uthaiwan is extremely knowledgeable about local foods, the history and regional nuances and we ate an amazing mix of dishes, many of which we returned during subsequent nights!! Our local host was Ae. She was fabulous right from the start. Connecting as soon as the booking was confirmed even if it was a month away! On the actual day of the tour, she was on time and energised to go! We stopped at the local market for coffee and she even got us snacks for the ride. Exploring Doi Ithanon was quite magical, the waterfalls, the hike around the natural environment together with a local tribe guide as well, was eye opening. Ae shared her knowledge of the various plants and animals occupying the forest. The twin pagodas were stunning and we ended at the highest point in Thailand. She treated us to lunch even though that was not included in the booking and got us souvenirs to bring back home. We could not have asked for more! Ae was more like a friend than a guide and we would definitely recommend her for those who would prefer a more personalised experience. Ae was a great choice indeed!

We had the best time with Eddie. We love “authentic” Thai food and enjoy high-spice levels (“phet phet” = very spicy in Thai) so he quickly catered the evening towards our palates. After a tour of the Kalare Night Bazaar he kindly invited us to his sister’s home where she prepared us a freshly cooked meal that focused on the flavors and food-styles of northern Thailand. Eddie speaks fluent English, takes terrific photos, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Thailand and Southeast Asia. Provide Eddie with requests and he will happily tailer the evening to your interests. We had a great time with Eddie. He is very knowledgeable about history and local arts. Our tour was well tailored for our family, especially as one of our family members had mobility challenges. We had to adjust our travel itinerary as one of the sites was closed due to heavy rain. Eddie immediately proposed some alternatives and even took us to a elephant sanctuary where we were the only guests and had a picnic lunch close to the elephants. Thank you Eddie!!Great and experienced guide

As a former full time traveller and travel writer, I’ve done a LOT of tours and met many guides. Ae, however, is in another league to most. We booked the tour last minute and yet it was so well organised, catered perfectly to our very difficult group of people (oldest 80, youngest 2!) and was so seamless! The foods were adjusted to our needs, and it was the perfect mix of authentic with still making us feel comfortable. Honestly can’t say enough positive things about Ae and about this tours Authentic, easy and absolutely epic

Our day with in Inthanon national park with Ae was one of the highlights of our trip! Ae was so friendly and fun it was easy to get comfortable with her. She was very knowledgeable about Thailand and the area. She kept us on track and would bring any possible changes to us for consideration. Ae took us to all the top spots in the park and we had such a blast, we never felt rushed and the day was easy and thoroughly enjoyable. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Chiang MaiAwesome day in Inthanon with Ae
