Our private tour with Barbara was one of the absolute highlights of our time in Dubrovnik. From the moment we met her, we knew we were in great hands — she’s warm, incredibly knowledgeable, and so passionate about her hometown. Barbara brought the history of Dubrovnik to life with stories that were both fascinating and deeply personal. You could tell she truly loves this city and takes pride in sharing it with others. She took us to a delicious oyster tasting, introduced us to her favorite olive oil shop (which we never would have found on our own), and made sure we caught the Pigeon Parade at noon — something we didn’t even know we needed to see, but absolutely loved! I’m a cat lover and had brought treats with me, and Barbara went out of her way to make sure we visited a few of Dubrovnik’s sun-loving feline residents. Marko made the whole experience worthwhile. His suggestions and local knowledge ensured we got to see the best of Dubrovnik. It was a pleasure to have seen it through his eyes. He communicated prior to us meeting through WhatsApp and ensured he covered all of the things we wanted to do and see. He even used his own car to transport us around, which was spotlessly clean. Karmen led our family on a 1.5 hour walking tour through the Old Town Dubrovnik. We have 3 young kids (10 year old twins and a 6 year old very energetic kiddo!) and she kept them engaged and happily answered their MANY questions!!! She was full of fun details about the city’s history and gave the adults fun facts about where Game of Thrones was filmed. She paid special attention to the hot weather, finding shade everywhere we stopped. Her recommendations for ice cream and pizza were on point!! This was my family's first time visiting Croatia and first time using WithLocals. We had a wonderful experience with Karmen who provided great insights of Old Town, living in Dubrovnik, and interesting stories of the history of the city. It was quite warm outside, but Karmen sought out shade whenever she had a story to share. When scheduling the tour, Karmen was quick in her responses and even provided us some wonderful recommendations. We booked a 90 minute session, which was the perfect time to cover the history of the city, but also provide us with her own insights. The time with Karmen felt like a friend was guiding you around their city. I would recommend booking this tour on one of your first days, as Karmen provides many good recommendations. Also, don't eat gelato or drink coffee beforehand, Karmen will make a stop during the tour :) My family, 4 english-speaking adults, would highly recommend this tour experience. My husband and I recently had a phenomenal tour with Barbara. She does a great job at giving you all the historic information while also giving you wonderful insights about current day to day life. To us, this is the best way to learn about a country, its people and its history. Karmen was a wonderful guide for our first experience in Dubrovnik! We had our 9 & 12 year olds with us and she was thoughtful in explaining the history of various buildings, areas, etc. with enough detail for us but also engaging for the kids. Excellent introductory tour to the beautiful Old City of Dubrovnik. Interesting references to the War of the 1990’s from someone who remembers it well and can explain his own feelings and experiences. The Old City is very busy, even in early June, so I would recommend an early morning visit if possible, definitely if you’re doing the City Wall walk. Fascinating, enjoyable tour.

I am nearing 80 years old and my daughter, although in her early fifties has physical limitations. We had no issues with the energy needed to go on this tour with Vlaho. We had spent the previous day wandering the streets of Old Town Dubrovnik. I had visited Dubrovnik in 1987, before the breakup of Yugoslavia. Both of us enjoyed the Old Town, but it was our time with Vlaho that gave us an understanding of the circumstances of the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the enmity that resulted that shaped the Dubrovnik of today. Because my husband and I had visited Dubrovnik so recently we were shocked at the time that this World Heritage Site was subjected to bombings in 1991-1992. The tour with Vlaho gave the historical background as well as the details of the war that have shaped the Dubrovnik of today. Vlaho was an excellent history teacher in a short amount of time and having been a defender of Dubrovnik in the war, gave us a good understanding of what the people of Dubrovnik went through. When you wander the town you do not see much evidence of the war. The holes from the bombardments have been filled, but the town, still beautiful, is changed forever. The War Museum and the cable car ride up to it were an added element to the tour. We both valued our time with Vlaho who gave us an in depth view of Dubrovnik. Not to be missed.

Vlaho is a lovely and deeply knowledgeable tour guide. We could not have asked for a better guide for our time in Dubrovnik. We wanted a historical tour of Dubrovnik, that would help us understand the complex background of the city and broader region. We wanted to have this basis so that we could better comprehend the war in the 90's, and the significant damage to both the people and the UNESCO heritage site. Vlaho helped us understand the deep and ancient history of the region, the complexities of the politics over time, Dubrovnik's unique place in that history, and the spirit of the people. Without this, I don't think we could have understood the developments of the war. We especially enjoyed the ride up the cable car to the museum. As a man with a family, who lived through the events, he generously shared personal experiences that brought what I'd seen in news reports to life. He is also highly knowledgeable about other areas and topics, so I'm sure you could arrange something tailored to your preferences with either himself or his skilled team. Jelena might be the best person to give a tour of Dubrovnik and an additional background of the Game of Thrones filming in the city. She brings her personal knowledge and experience as a journalist, as a native to the area, and as someone who lived through the homeland war to talk in depth about the history of the city. She was also present in the city when Game of Thrones was being filmed and has fun, personal anecdotes and pictures from that time. Overall, this was an extremely worthwhile introduction to the city. Karmen was absolutely fantastic! She went above and beyond to help us have the best experiences. We booked a private tour with her, especially because my partner has walking difficulties. Karmen was very flexible and adjusted the tour according to our needs. She's very knowledgeable and passionate about her job. She left us wanting to know more about Dubrovnik. In particular, she researched accessible areas for us, supported us with mobility, gave us good advice on where to eat and drink, shared the bus schedule with us from where we were staying to get into the Old Town, and shared details for a paint and wine experience.
