Angel’s tour was a wonderful experience from start to finish! The food tasting was a great introduction—the French toast was delicious and thoughtfully selected. What really stood out was the visit to the Shrine and the culture behind it. Angel was kind, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience feel personal and authentic. The thing we hate the most of being tourists is feeling like a tourists. When moving from one selfie point to the next you ask yourself how living in the place you are visiting really looks like. From the moment you meet Lok Yan her passion for the city is evident. She has a lot to talk about - HK, how birds used to be part of people's day to day life, her job.... in short the best way for anyone to get a grasp about HK's zeitgeist is to spend some time with her. Do take her up on her offer of your mini-portrait, and glance through her artwork some of which offer a unique perspective on the city and life through her creative lens. The tour was delightfully authentic - aside from a a temple that we stopped by, most of our time was spent walking around - goldfish and bird street, buying stuff at the flower market, a local McD - as we talked. The highlight was the breakfast place she took me to - sharing tables with a set of genial old timers open to a conversation, us enjoying dumplings, tea and a coconut dessert - was definitely a great start to the day. Highly recommend her to anyone seeking an enriching and unforgettable Hong Kong experience. Thanks for a great time Lok - hope to run into you again soon !A zeitgeist walking tour

My friend and I really enjoyed this Behind The Scenes: Kowloon tour with Ron (Sum Pui) and Kerry. He is very energetic, animated and passionate about sharing his knowledge! He also has an excellent sense of humor. He accommodated my request of a 10am tour instead of the typical afternoon time frame. E we started near the MTR meeting point where he explained and we toured an affordable housing building. There were small eateries on one level and we walked through the very local market at the lowest level. We had a quick breakfast snack of rolled noodles, shu mai and fish balls. Delicious! It was really great to learn about the items and the foods I have seen before but didn’t understand. Like burning paper offerings to ancestors. Fascinating. We ended this part of the tour with excellent milk tea. We then walked many of the market streets of Sham Shui Po. We also visited a temple with an excellent explanation of the gods and the process of wishes. We ended the tour at Ron’s favorite small restaurant which was packed and without a word of English - he was kind enough to order for us before departing! I would highly recommend this tour and this tour guide, Sum Pui. His friend, Kerry, assist with the tour, because her forte was the markets. She was also quick and efficient to translate and look up things on her phone to really deepen our understanding. Thank you so much Ron and Kerry for a lovely day!!Great walking tour!

We had a group of 8, including 3 seniors and a child with a recent knee injury. Requested a less strenuous walking tour, and Ron helped with that. The tour was customized to our interests. We saw and learned a lot, but the extremely hot and humid weather significantly affected us all, and we cut the tour short. If our travels brings us back to Hong Kong, I would not hesitate booking another tour with him.Awesome!

Ronnie was so nice and he showed us all of the local marvels and foods we wanted to see. He is clearly an experienced guide and enjoys sharing culture and history with others. He is great with kids. We were 1 adult and 3 teenagers and he kept us all engaged. I would highly recommend spending time with Ronnie. He also gave us recommendations for the following days in Hong Kong and followed up to check in on us which I thought was wonderful. To begin, Angel is such a sweet person. They carry themselves with so much genuitiy that you feel as if you've known them for your entire life even though you just met. I have not always been a fan of informative food tours (sometimes I just want to eat) but Angel made it so interactive and fascinating, every story she told was one you couldn't find in history books, it was lived experience. The food itself was amazing, it was just the right balance of sweet and salty and the right amount of food. I do recommend eating a little before you come as the portions are not big (but it was exactly what I needed and was expecting from street food). If shes available and you have the choice, pick Angel. They will make your trip so much better.Tasty (and Informative) Tour!

Our guide ‘Ronnie’ was very good but the description of the tour was misleading. Description said beer and wine and 9 different tastings, but most were in one Dim Sum restaurant. We imagined a number of different stops in close proximity with different tastings not just mainly dumplings. Beer was the only option until we requested wine and were taken to a wine bar. Soup stop was very good. Being in Hong Kong we would have expected a Peking Duck pancake too.Anita

My husband and I spent an excellent day touring Hong Kong with Sherman. It was our first trip to HK. We asked her to customize our tour to help us understand how people live, eat and get around HK and to take us to places that only a local would know about. We were already booked to see the standard tourist destinations via our Viking cruise excursions so we wanted a counterpoint to that. Sherman designed a day for us that exceeded our expectations! We started with an incredible dim sum lunch at a place we never would have found on our own and might have been too timid to try. It was crazy busy and frenetic and we had a wonderful time trying lots of their specialties. We rode trams, the subways and walked a lot. Visited markets where residents actually shop (not the touristy markets), visited a public housing estate and got a better understanding of how people live in this crowded and expensive city and joined some school kids enjoying after school mango ice treats. It was a fascinating day! Sherman went out of her way to tailor the experience to our interests, including reviewing the details of other excursions that we had already planned thru Viking. She met us at a convenient place, gave us lots background on the city and personal insights insights about living there. She let us borrow her Octopus card to use public transit while we were together and even made recommendations for places we might visit and eat after our tour with her. All in all, it was an incredible experience. If you have a chance to book a tour with Sherman, you will not be disappointed! Great off the beaten path tour

We booked Cosmo for our first day in Hong Kong to show us around and get our bearings and he didn’t disappoint. He met us in our hotel in the morning and took us straight to the bus station so we knew how that worked from the start, tick. On the tour he gave us lots of information about the history of where we were and also what is happening in those places while we are in Hong Kong. Also took us to the metro and showed us how that worked, even helped us with buying the octopus card which set us up for the week. Gave us lots of information about hikes and places to see in Hong Kong on the days after we had been with him. But most importantly we asked him to show us some good places to go out for a drink and he didn’t disappoint. He went above and beyond to show us around and we had a great time with him. Thoroughly recommend a tour with this lovely guy!Book Cosmo!

It was a relaxed evening with Isabella as we walked through the flower and night markets and grabbed dinner (some tasty noodle soup). I had visited the Temple Street night market already, so that gave us more time to explore Mong Kok - and for me to leverage Isabella's local knowledge to bargain with the shopkeepers as I stocked up on gifts for families/friends :D The 2.5 hours just whizzed by, so dont hesitate to book this tour.

Angel was an amazing guide. We did the 3 hours Hong Kong central tour seeing the must sees and the hidden gems with 2 small children. Pros: - Guide: very friendly tour guide - Duration: 3 hours getting to know surrounding temple market area - everything became a bit of a blur at one point since we walked around so much - Included other stops: takes you places you would’ve never seen/noticed (not food related) which was unexpected but cool Cons: - Price: really expensive per person for the type of food you get to try (cheap eats / street food snacks) we wanted to know more about how things are cooked or its origins / history / its influence on HK culture. There was no food commentary. - Speed and lacking depth: tour was long but somehow felt rushed, Matteo speed walked around quickly pointing things out without much context / history or background. The food we tried was ok but there was no context or explanation to it In comparison to other food tours we’ve done, we felt like we didn’t learn much about Hong Kong’s food history / history or anything about the market/s. This felt like we had met an old friend who walked us around the neighborhood pointing out streets and shops while buying us snacks. He’s a really friendly guide though, but if you’re on a budget and really want to learn more about HKs food and its history, you might want to consider doing a larger tour group.Friendly guide but tour missed the mark

Had a unique opportunity to set up a personalized tour with Angel. I had an 8 hour layover in Hong Kong and Angel was able to bring me to all the instagramable (well most commonly seen on instagram spots) and give me a local's overview of Hong Kong. I've been here a few times, but never on a solo trip, and it was a good stop over before my larger trip. Matteo was a very nice and personable guy, and we appreciated his friendliness throughout the tour. That said, the overall experience didn’t quite meet our expectations. It felt like the tour lost momentum about two hours in, even though we had booked a full three hours. It seemed like he had run out of ideas or places to take us, which left the last part of the tour feeling a bit aimless. We were hoping for a more engaging and well-paced experience from start to finish. Perhaps he was just having an off day, but overall the tour felt a little underwhelming. Having said that, Withlocals was great in their service recovery. When I replied to their email asking for our feedback, they were apologetic and offered us a voucher for our next tour.

We found the tour very disappointing - we’ve done similar tours in other cities, and this one was by far the worst. Some of the food was delicious, but: - Others were very bad, without any recognition of this (we had sticks of Yak, which were basically fat; when I mentioned this, Matteo suggested I could do with some extra fat in me) - An hour in we’d had five courses; I asked what we were trying next and he recounted the five courses we’d already had. I then asked what we were doing for the remaining 1.5 hours of the tour and he couldn’t really answer - Some of the places we tried to go to were closed; which gave off the impression Matteo was unprepared - He didn’t provide much insight into the city or the origins of the food; when we asked questions he didn’t have an answer - He mentioned his budget a few times; we’d said in advance that we were happy to pay extra to the food stalls to try more, which he then didn’t want to let us do Overall it was a very poor experience, and we cut the tour short.Very Disappointing

I cannot overstate how amazing our full coverage tour with Sherman was!! First and foremost, Sherman’s communication was excellent before we had even met her - asking if we had any preferences and advising us to arrive hungry! The tour began in Hong Kong Island and Sherman took us to a traditional Dim Sum restaurant that you would never find if you weren’t a local. It was seriously the best Dim Sum ever! Throughout the tour, Sherman took the time to find out where we had already been and tailored the tour accordingly. Her knowledge of Hong Kong history was incredible and she drew on stories of her upbringing to really bring the place to life. She had prepared pre-loaded Octopus cards for us to make transport so much easier and we got to travel around the city by various means included the Ding Ding and Star Ferry! The tour concluded in the night markets of Kowloon, with Sherman helping us order dinner before we parted ways. Even after the tour, Sherman continued to communicate with us to make recommendations on hikes and restaurants. Outstanding!! We would award Sherman 11 stars if we could! Best tour ever with Sherman
