Personalized city tours with local hosts.
Tiago was the first host to welcome us in Porto. After a few minutes, wandering in the streets of that beautiful and unknown city, we had the feeling we were connecting with a long time friend. The evening flew by, starting with a tour of Porto, followed by an evening in a charming restaurant where we discovered Fado with truly gifted musicians. Tiago has been an amazing host. He went above and beyond our expectations. I would recommend any of his tours to anyone looking for authentic encounters. Thank you so much!
I am writing this to my fellow musicians and music lovers who travel the world: if you are not familiar with the Fado style of music, this experience is definitely worth it. I live for finding new music at home and abroad, and this is not quite like anything else. Certainly a cousin of other European gypsy/folk, some flamenco influence, a bit of Middle Eastern melodic flow, but still something unique. Intrigued? Just do it. The venue is an intimate restaurant, yet the sound was powerful and still echoes in my ears. Fantastic! Tiago is excellent and friendly company. Worldly and genuine, and his English is perfect. Have I had fancier dinners? Yes. Was it really a, “tour?” No. If that’s what you are looking for then there are other experiences for food and tours, this is Fado. But we had a nice quick tour and dinner was tasty.
I had a really enjoyable evening with Tiago on this tour. The restaurant is in a beautiful historic building with fantastic stone walls, which makes for a great atmosphere. The food and service were decent, but it was the Fado that made the night special. The music was great. The guitarists were amazing and they performed together with three different singers, all three of whom were excellent. My personal favourite was the young man ( Miguel Xavier). He sang with an exceptional passion which really gave a feel for what Fado, which apparently means 'fate', is really like. Tiago was an excellent host. He walked me around the area so that I got a bit of an orientation and gave me some fantastic tips about what to see and do and where to eat in Porto for the rest of my trip. I texted him asking for advice the next day and he swiftly responded with more recommendations. Book this trip early in your stay in Porto so you can take advantage of Tiago's knowledge of his city.
