Niko picked us up just outside the Dubrovnik walls. He greeted us like we were old friends. we started a wonderful, meandering conversation that included wine, food, family, Croatian history, gardening, farming, fishing and those are just a few of the topics we discussed. After visiting the seashore and the gardens, we settled into the winery's tasting room. We tried the local specialty, house-made, infused brandies, moving thru slightly sweeter to these intense herbal digestives. Then on to the meal, which started with an intense soup made from vegetables from the garden we'd just toured. Then we moved on to a simple, yet enticing roasted chicken (about 4 hours in a wood-burning oven) and a flourless chocolate cake. And this is a winery, so the wine must be mentioned. we tried 3, a Rose made from Merlot, and then the latest Merlot vintage, followed by a spectacular wine that had been 10 years in the cellar. We fought the inclination to take a post-meal nap in the car and continued our wide ranging convo. Niko is the consummate host, gracious, knowledgeable, engaging and relaxed. His English is very good and so easy to talk with. All-in-all, a special visit and the highlight of our trip.magical afternoon at a Croatian winery
I arranged this tour for five of my friends, and they came back saying it was one of the most unforgettable experiences they’ve ever had—and these are people who have traveled the world. It was authentic, full of history, and deeply personal. The food, wine, and brandy tasting were absolutely incredible. They loved tasting fresh fruit right from Niko’s property before enjoying a traditional Croatian meal prepared by Niko and his family.
Niko and his family were wonderfully warm and welcoming, sharing fascinating insights about Croatia and its history. He brings to life the impact of the 1990s war and the incredible story of how they rebuilt their property afterward.

From the moment he picked us up at our hotel, Niko was the perfect host. He warmly greeted us; shared his family history as he drove us; and educated us on his country and his home. When we arrived at his home, he walked us around his garden and vineyard, explaining what was growing and letting us pick fruit to sample and taste. The meal he and his family prepared and the wine he poured throughout the were delicious and truly Croatian. This was an exceptional experience, one I highly recommend!Life in Croatia; A Welcomng Experience’
