Richard

Richard is a Tourist & Nature Guide licensed by Singapore Tourism Board. He is a nature lover and also a wildlife photographer specialising in Birds Photography. He grew up in a rural area known as a kampong at the North Eastern part of Singapore. His family practised living off the land and off the sea where he acquired the practical knowledge on the “way of nature”. He enjoys living a healthy and adventurous lifestyle and love meeting people and sharing personal experiences.

Thank you, Richard, for an interesting and varied morning at Pasir Ris. At the beginning, Richard asked David and myself what our expectations were of the Birds and Photography Wildlife Tour. This was really helpful and set the tone of the morning. We mentioned we were mainly interested in the birds but also the trees. Pasir Ris was a good place to go as it has several very different environments and therefore different vegetation and potential for different wildlife. I was particularly interested in photographing birds. Highlights for me were seeing and photographing several very active Common Flameback Woodpeckers and a Stork-billed Kingfisher which sat on a branch overlooking a small pond. Also, I was excited to see Black-naped Oriole. As well as other birds we saw a variety of wildlife including squirrels, monitors, turtles, and a snake. Richard is an accomplished photographer and I was really impressed by several photos he showed us that he had taken. I have a lot of knowledge and experience of wildlife photography but Richard gave me some tips that were new to me and very helpful. Richard is a genuine naturalist and has a lot of knowledge and love of the natural environment. We are an older couple and also not used to walking around to the high heat and humidity of Singapore. It was a relief when we came to a seat and were able to have a rest. It would be good if Pasir Ris had more seats but Richard has no control over that. Another option would be a slightly shorter walk.Great nature experience with a local guide

This tour is an absolute highlight. Richard was not only incredibly knowledgeable about local history, wildlife and nature, but also a talented professional photographer who captured wonderful images of our time together. The experience was relaxed, personal, fun, and informative. Highly recommend for nature lovers and anyone wanting to see a very special piece of Singapore!A nature tour with Richard is a must-do.

We chose Richard because of our keen interest in bird watching. But he not only knew the local birds well he led us through a fantastic site and his knowledge about plants and animals and the history of Singapore we found fascinating. Richard is a nature lover who shares his knowledge with great enthusiasm. We had wonderful hours in incredibly beautiful nature that passed far too quickly. Along the way, we learned interesting facts about Singapore, and to top it off, we enjoyed a delicious meal together with Richard at a hawker. A must for nature lovers

I booked Richard for a 7km hike from Windsor to treetop and back that ended up as a 10km hike to MacRitchie due to our fast pace. Richard was extremely knowledgable about the plant and animal life we emcountered, as well as informative about several aspects of his country's history and culture. The hike itself was fairly easy but still amazing, we emcountered a few monkeys, a monitor lizzard, some turtles etc. Overall, I was very satisfied and I recomment it to anyone. This special trip shows a different perspective of singapore. Not a famous attraction, but hop into a lush greenery of the last rural village (kampong), visit Taoist shrine, and has a local meal at a nearby hawker centre. You will feel like a local rather than a traveller. Our guide (Mr Richard) was very nice, cheerful, kind and knowledgable. He provided us many interesting information about Singapore history, Singaporeans and their daily life in the past and present. He also a keen plantsman and nature lover. We wanted to get out the tourist areas and so found this great tour with Richard "Off the Beaten Track". Richard is very knowledgeable and passionate about Singapore. He took us through Kampong Lorong Buangkok which is the last kampong located in Singapore, it was just incredible. He shared lots of valuable information with us through out the 3hr tour. We walked and we also took the bus as well. At the end of the tour he took us to a Hawkers food market which we shared some Roti Prata and fish curry sauce which was truly delicious, actually the best I have ever tasted. Going to Kampong on your own you will miss so much about the history, so well worth going on this fabulous tour.Fantastic experience

We enjoyed a great 5 hours + tour with Richard. He was friendly and engaging, making sure that he covered all that we were interested in. He was kind enough to meet us at our hotel rather than us having to deal with the MRT as first time visitors. We only had a short time in Singapore and this gave us the chance to learn about the history and way of life. I’m sure we will be back and would gladly choose Richard to be our guide again.Excellent overview of Singapore
