This tour with Garen was so much more than a night market/street food tour. She did a flawless job of providing cultural and historical/cultural context on the history of Taiwan and how the night market came to be, on top of describing every food item in the market and what she’d recommend. She even took me to one of her hidden gems to escape the crowds and noise of the market by the river. Terrible experience as our guide Agnes did not show up at the meeting point at the designated time from our confirmation. We messaged her with no response and sent an email to With Locals who did respond with a less than sincere standard apology. We were only in Taipei for one night and were to meet her at 5pm for a night tour. We were then left stranded and had to quickly scramble to figure out things on our own. A terrible experience! First we had booked another daytime tour with Daphne and within an hour received a cancellation saying the host was no longer available. From our experience it seems With Locals needs to improve their host scheduling, booking and confirmation processes. I would NOT recommend this platform. I am still waiting on the refund for both the cancelled tour and no show guide tour.Terrible - Guide Agnes No showed For Tour!

Jones was the excellent host for my first night in Taipei. He met me at my hotel with his auto, and the to a high spot overlooking the city for an overall orientation of geography and history. Jones tailored the tour to my preferences of temples and night markets. His knowledge of temple customs and culture enriched my understanding. At the street markets, Jones started this Midwestern boy with rather familiar foods then working up to the less familiar. Extremely helpful to have Jones navigate the translations at the food stalls, as even dishes which cost $1 have options for various fillings, seasonings and sauces. This is my first visit Taipei after a decade and I wanted to see other side of Taipei. I was glad to join the journey of exploring Taipei in the night with Daphne. She brought me to this beautiful Taoist temple (Songshan Ciyou Temple), explained about the rituals and different gods at the different floors of temple. Then we explored the Raohe night market, enjoyed local delicacy. Great part of this market is that it’s commonly visited by both local and travelers, so one really gets to see how locals enjoy the food market. Given I enjoy whisky, she introduced me very nice whisky bar, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you Daphne for making my stay more fun..Awesome Human Being!!

Chris was a really great host. We decided to reschedule our tour due to the heavy rains, and he happily gave us some tips for things to do on the original tour night. He showed us around Longshan temple and explained lots of features of the temple as well as the wider religion and culture. Daphne was a sweetheart! I was supposed to go on this tour on a Monday, but my flight got delayed. Daphne was accommodating and kindly coordinated with me to reschedule. The tour itself was pretty cool! It was interesting to learn about Taoism and how people worship or pray in the temples. The walk through the market was also fun and the snacks were tasty. This tour with Daphne was super educational and fun. We started at a famous/beautiful temple where Daphne informed us of the important facts and history of the religion. The architecture alone was gorgeous. Then we walked through a well-known night market where we sampled some delicious meat bun and sausage. We quickly stopped by the Rainbow Bridge (wish we could have stayed there a bit longer than 5 mins). Then we hopped into a taxi to take the perfect picture of Taipei 101 from a great vantage point (without having to go up). Overall, I would say the tour was great, my only minor complaint is that the tour was advertised as being 2.5 hours but actually only lasted 1.5 hours...Cool City/Night Tour!
