Our tour of the hawker markets with Ang was great fun! Ang is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about both the history and culture of Singapore and it's very varied food. He left us with an illustrated guide while he beetled off into the market, which was very helpful when trying to figure out what we were eating. His food choices were generally good, though we did prefer the selection at the first hawker market. The tour perhaps could have been better paced, as we were VERY full after the first market - worth noting that a bite or two of each dish is enough if you want to get through it all (even if it seems a crime to waste all that food). Ang was very solicitous, making sure we had time to use the bathroom and wash our hands during our visits. He left us with some thoughtful gifts and fun memories - thank you Ang!Food, history and fun!

Chingmeng was not very pleasant and was very difficult to understand. He knew we were hard of hearing but he continued to talk as he walked away. We could not find the meeting spot and so we were late. I tried to explain that I thught the description of the spot was incorrect and he responded by saying the description for the meeting spot has worked for 10 years and it was fine for everyone else, so why did we have trouble? He brought up US politics and we had no interest in discussing politics. He acted tired and bored. I would not recommend this guide.Not very excited to be doing his job

What a great day we had with HJ! He treated us to numerous, yummy treats of Chinese cuisine. We were able to get familiar with several different hawker food centers and local eateries. The food was great, the portions generous, and we enjoyed tasting new dishes we probably would not have ordered on our own. We were also lucky enough to visit with the oldest Loin Dance group in Singapore, tour the Chinese Opera museum, and get a magnificent city view from a nearby roof top building. HJ went above and beyond for us!! Great tour! Great guide! We highly recommend!Fun say in Chinatown!!

We had a delish 2 hours eating with Ang! It was a crazy hot day and the first thing he did was present us with "personalized" fans. Then he took us to two Hawker Centres, sat us down with drinks and cutlery (at a cooler table) and then charged off, returning with a parade great food. Tons of variety. Then he took us around to the stalls that sold it, pointing out Michlen mentions. We shared over 15 dishes ( lots if food!) and learned all about Hawker culture. We are totally comfortable in Hawker Centres now! At the end if 2.5 hours he presented us with gifts- such a nice surprise. Then walked us to the best MRT station for us. It was a terrific afternoon- had to have a rest after! Thank you, Ang! Linda and "Partner"What a character!

We had a great few hours with HJ. We were late meeting him, no fault of his, due to being dropped off at the wrong place by our tact driver. HJ was patient and when we met up greeted us with a big smile. We started off in Chinatown and he explained the history of the place and pointed out things we found very interesting. On then to a Hawker Market where he presented us with many dishes, some we liked more than others but the idea is to at least try everything, which we did. We had time to visit a Buddhist temple and ended up at a Museum exhibition showing how Singapore has and continues to evolve. Throughout our time with HJ he was very patient and attentive to us ensuring we were ok. Finally, he sent us photos he had taken during our tour, a very nice touch. Although Jack had some very good local knowledge and we were able to prize the information out of him, it was very hard work. He was quite clear that we had chosen the wrong time to do the tour, which made us wonder why he accepted the commission in the first place. Overall, we were able to gain insight into the Hawker centres and some of the local dynamics, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time. Jack let us eat a full lunch for the first of five courses, which meant every single next course was a struggle to eat and was very uncomfortable. Finally, his English was questionable, and I found it very hard to understand what he said, so consequently missed a loss of the information. Not worth the money.Could do better…

HJ took us through several Hawker Centers in Chinatown and sat us down so could could go wait in line and bring us a wonderful assortment of dishes to taste. He was careful to ask about allergies and level of spice preferences, took pictures of us and then mailed us the photos with all the dishes labeled. He was knowledgeable about the dishes, the cultures that created them, and also pointed out interesting stores in the centers that were worth a later visit. Ronnie was very knowledgeable about not only the food but all things Singapore. As a native of Singapore, he was able to tell us so many interesting facts and historical stories about Singapore and the surrounding areas. Prior to going to a hawker centre on our own we wanted to go with a local. Kenny didn’t disappoint. It was easy to meet up with him, personable, and adapted to our needs (e.g., curious to try everything but I at eat small portions as I’m conscious of my sensitive stomach). Our conversation was more understanding today’s culture and infrastructure vs. feeling like a history lesson. He also walked us through a grocery store - which we love doing in other countries. Following the tour, we went back on our own and got more food. Kenny, we ended up getting a cup of kopi which was great and bought a small pandan cake to eat from where you took us. Besuch von 2 Hawker Centern in Chinatown . Es gab 8 verschiedene Gerichte ( 2 bis 3 große Portionen für 5 Pers., mehr als genug für ein Abendessen ) und einen speziellen Tee zum Probieren. Sehr schön war zudem der kleine Rundgang durch Chinatown mit anschließendem Rundgang auf dem Rooftop eines gigantischen Hochhauses und Betrachtung des Sonnenuntergangs. I selected Jon for two things. One, he had a car (I was with a companion that I wanted to be a bit more comfortable during the tour). Second, I read in the reviews that his English was good. Imagine my surprise when I started coordinating with who I thought was Jon, and in the messages when trying to figure out where to meet we were already having difficulty understanding each other. Then, when we finally saw him, he did not look at all like the picture in the website, and it turns out Jon was not available because he was not feeling well. This also means we did not have access to a car during the tour. This should have been communicated with us so that we had a chance to decide if we wanted to continue with the tour or not - why ask us to select a guide when we end up with someone else? Ben ended up being a good guide, and very accommodating, but honestly sometims we have trouble understanding him when he speaks English fast, and also we were not entirely interested in the religious slant (and we spent a CONSIDERABLE amount of time in a Hindu temple). We wanted to learn more about the food and hawker history and of course, was looking for a bit of comfort as we already spent the whole day walking as we left our country at 2am same day and were exhausted. Again, I do not blame Ben, but we should have been informed beforehand and given the choice to cancel. Next Time Set Expectations

Our time with HJ was much more than a hawker centre tour. He included parts of historic Chinatown, preserved sections of the area that house trendy restaurants, bars and hotels as well as taking us to a viewing platform on the 50th floor of an apartment block with panoramic views over Singapore’s centre, Sentosa Island and the port. We visited two hawker centres and experienced a range of local dishes. There was more than enough to eat. HJ was a well informed guide, very knowledgeable on Chinatown’s history and the local food. Ang was a fun, energetic, and educational host for our hawker market tour! We visited two markets and tasted a variety of dishes- our bellies were definitely full at the end of the tour. We went on a Sunday afternoon, so many stalls were closed, but that didn’t stop Ang from choosing plenty of yummy dishes fur us to try. I would give Ang and his tour 100 stars if I could! It was the highlight of my trip to Singapore and I would absolutely recommend his tour to anyone. I selected the Hawker Center food tour, and having a local expert to help navigate all the stalls and share his knowledge of the history of the centers and stalls was invaluable. Ang also made sure to explain each dish and I was amazed (and totally full!) at the end by all the new dishes I was able to try. Ang is extremely knowledgeable, funny and kind— he even learned some facts about my home city before the tour. He went above and beyond to ensure his tour was special (including providing helpful items for the Hawker Center and some Singapore souvenirs!) and I will definitely remember it for years to come!!A tour deserving 100 stars!

Our experience began before we arrived, it was our first visit to Singapore. Arthur our guide gave us great advice on where to meet and how to get there by local transport. When we met up he was full of enthusiasm and was obviously proud of his country and heritage. He showed us round and gave us loads of interesting facts and useful information.
