What you can expect

A walk in Fiesole: Culture and Local Taste with an Art Lover in Florence - 57d52c1bbbae90281d34d1547d428cba

Leave the city and meet me on the hills for a pleasant, cultural and funny day across one of the most interesting places around Florence.

Fiesole is just 20 minutes away from Florence and it offers a deep experience of Tuscany hills, with its narrow roads between old walls hiding beautiful gardens, its craft artistic shops, small & genuine restaurants and some cool places for enjoying a perfect "aperitivo".

Fiesole is first of all a jump into the past: imagine a walk through a roman amphitheatre overlooking the stunning countryside of Tuscany, and learning about the ancient Etruscan history and art thanks to the many archeological evidences all around us.

We'll wander about the mysterious symbols inside of the dark medieval cathedral, so rich of art and history! Then we'll reach the highest point of the hill for enjoying the spectacular view of Florence and silently immerse ourselves into the franciscan convent.

But Fiesole is also a cool corner of Florence! Let's live like locals: cheers to a good Aperitivo by the main square with me for recovering our energies!

One of the absolute best tours we’ve ever done. After many trips to Firenze over the last ten years, we finally had the chance to explore Fiesole and Marco was the perfect guide. He was engaging, personable, incredibly knowledgeable and a joy to spend three hours with learning the vast history and culture of the area. Fiesole is a hidden gem with a fascinating history dating to the Etruscans. A highlight of the tour was the ruins of the Roman theater complete with temple and spa, and Marco’s ability to bring it to life and create vivid imagery of what it would have looked like in its prime was spectacular. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history and culture of this rich area and if you’re lucky enough to get Marco as your guide you’ll come away much richer! Marco is one of the most fascinating and interesting tour hosts we’ve ever had. Our trip to Fiesole is a highlight of our trip to Italy. It was about a 20-30 minute trip out of central Florence and we found ourself above the city in the calm and peaceful (and beautiful) Tuscan countryside. Marco is extremely kind and thoughtful- he had thought of all the logistics and shared helpful information prior to the actual tour. The tour itself was wonderful - Marco started with teaching us about the ancient Etruscans and then worked his way forward through history. We got to see ruins, churches, and even a monastery! If you love history - I would very much recommend Marco & this tour as a guide. It was also such a lovely and peaceful way to see the history of the are. A breath of fresh air

Before we arrived in Fiesole, Marco made sure we knew exactly what bus to catch and where we were going. Very helpful! He checked to see what our expectations and desires were so that he understood our priorities. Marco gave us an excellent tour of Fiesole's Etruscan and Roman archeology, explaining how what we were seeing fit into the history and landscape. As one member of our group had majored in anthropology and is getting a Master's in museum studies, we were thrilled to have someone with Marco's knowledge and experience to answer our questions. He did a great job of this, discussing our theories and fitting what we had already seen in Florence in context with what we were seeing in Fiesole. He continued the tour into the Renaissance period, and talked a bit about the area today. We also very much appreciated his recommendation for lunch. The atmosphere and food were excellent. We highly recommend Marco.Excellent Archeological and Cultural Tour

This was truly an unforgettable visit of the Uffizi, my parents gave me a birthday present a guided visit of the Uffizi for me and my 3 friends with Marco, and this was such a wonderful experience. Marco adapted the visit to what we wanted to see, our pace and always put things in context. He patiently answered all our questions and there were many! He was captivating, shared many anecdotes and was very generous with his time. I am so grateful and could not have asked for a better guide. Thank you so much Marco for making this visit so interesting, it enlightened the rest of our visit of Florence, giving us some strong basis to understand the Italian Renaissance. An unforgettable visit of the Uffizi

We had the absolute best time with Marco. He was a fantastic guide. So friendly, so helpful and so knowledgeable. Even though we only spent one day touring Florence, he made the absolute most of our time and we feel like we really discovered it. I have been to Florence four times in the past and never really thought that much of it. (I know, I’m sorry.) But with Marco, my wife and I absolutely fell in love with this fabulous city and all it has to offer. He was an absolutely exceptional guide for us in Florence and we feel like we have made a friend. Also, as an aside, our experiences with withlocals.com have all been outstanding. Marco was the third guide we have used with them and everyone of these experiences has been great. He told us a little bit about the vetting process and they don’t just let anybody represent them. He said that before he was allowed to work with them, they met with him in person. They talk to him, and they even went on a tour with him. This is a really good service and I highly recommend Withlocals to anyone who is looking for a personalized experience in a new place. We just could not be more happy with Marco or with this company.Superb Day In Florence

We met Marco for our tour of the Uffizi on our first full day in Florence, and we could not have had a better beginning to our travels. Marco opened up not only the treasures of the gallery but also the Renaissance world and the interplay of so many factors of this dynamic time and its reflections in art. He was welcoming, articulate, enthusiastic, and insightful - we felt genuinely invited to engage. The four of us travelling together have different experiences and backgrounds, yet we all felt our morning with Marco added meaning to other sites in Florence and throughout our continued journeys. Superb experience! Best way to begin our Florence experience

Marco is an excellent guide. He gave us a beautiful presentation of the artistic development of peinture from the renaissance to the realistic in the context of the rule of the Medicis. The combination of historical facts with typical anecdotes was so fascinating that at the end we didn’t feel the time pass but we felt richer in our understanding of the place of the Uffizi in art and history. Combining all this with Marco’s punctuality and very pleasant personality we wholeheartedly recommend Marco to any group. With Marco we really understood the Uffizi

The Uffizi is overwhelming without a guide. We have had about 4 guides during our Italy trip and Marco was standout the best. We had a group with different levels of art history knowledge including 2 teenagers and Marco was able to give us basically a History of Western Art course in 3 hours. Great English, witty and evidently deep knowledge in response to questions. Evidently loves his job. Could not recommend him highly enough.Brilliant guide to the Uffizi

I decided to book a personal guided tour of the Uffizi gallery for the first time through Withlocals during our family holiday. I chose Marco because of his profile and background in Art history. Marco’s correspondence was very good prior to the tour. He always responded to my queries promptly. The tour itself was excellent due to Marco’s extensive knowledge of the gallery and Florentine history. He was interactive with us all, answering our questions happily. He was polite and respectful in his demeanour at all times. He brought the gallery to life for us, and made the whole experience a memorable one. If you are looking for a personal tour guide in Florence, look no further than Marco. You will not be disappointed. Excellent guided tour of the Uffizi

We had such a wonderful time with Marco, taking us through all the highlights of the Uffizi. Marco was clearly knowledgeable and passionate about Renaissance art and explained the backstory of key artworks in a clear and compelling way (with a good dose of humour!). Our group of four was conveniently picked up by Marco and our driver, Alfonso, right in front of our Air B&B. Had a comfortable and enjoyable drive to Greve where Marco explained the Chianti region, had a Chianti 101 lesson, and leaned about the quaint town of Greve. Visited a family owned winery in Lamole to taste several fabulous wines and olive oil. Enjoyed some time in Greve tasting salami, prosciutto, cheese, and more wine. Also appreciate Marco’s recommendation to visit the leather store in Greve! After a short visit to Montefioralle, Marco helped us make reservations for dinner back in Florence and we were dropped off at the restaurant. The dinner recommendation was on point where we had delicious pasta and amazing Steak Florentine. We will definitely contact Marco when we’re back in Florence. It has been the highlight of our trip. Can’t wait to return!! Thanks, Marco!Fantastic & memorable Chianti afternoon!

Marco was an amazing tour guide for myself and three girlfriends on the Chianti and Tuscany in a Day tour. We had originally booked pre-Covid and had to reschedule when our trip was cancelled - both bookings were very smooth and Marco was very accommodating. A private driver picked us up from our Air BNB and drove us through the countryside. We visited so many special and beautiful sites that tell a story of Florence and Italy in general. The trip felt very personalized. Marco was very attentive to all of our needs, answered all of our questions, was a wealth of knowledge and so passionate about Italy. It was most certainly the highlight of our stay in Florence. I would absolutely recommend (and have recommended) this trip to anyone considering. Romantic Tuscan Retreat

I booked two tours with Marco for my husband and me along with our two college-aged children. The first evening we arrived in Florence, we met Marco for a three hour walking tour. Although we had visited Florence before, this time around I wanted us to start out with an overview of the history of Florence and a better understanding of some of the most important families historically and economically. MARCO WAS FANTASTIC! He began with how Florence was established along with the Roman influence to give us a good grounding. Then as we walked from one spot to the next he pointed out buildings, architectural features, paintings in churches, details on bridges, weaving everything into fascinating stories. From important artists to the developing economy and writers like Dante we learned so much but in the most enjoyable way--the three hours flew by! The following day we met Marco for a personal tour of the Uffizi. Again, we've been before but the Uffizi has so much it's hard not to be overwhelmed. I wanted someone to take us through with a focus on some of the more important pieces in the history and development of art. Again, Marco was just absolutely wonderful. It truly felt like we experienced the best of the Uffizi and really appreciated and enjoyed what we were looking at. Marco is so knowledgeable! His ability to weave the information and stories together makes for a really enjoyable time. He welcomes questions and has a kind, warm demeanor. He was very attuned to a responsive to our understanding and thoughtful. My college age kids loved it as much as my husband and I did ... I think that says it all. :)Absolutely fantastic!

Marco took us on a journey that traced Florence’s history from Classical Antiquity and the Middle Ages through the Renaissance right up to modern times. He wove stories about the architecture, art, religion, politics and even food of the different ages that brought Florence to life for us. Our 3 hours with Marco opened our eyes to the many facets of the City of Lilies and continued to enrich our visit to Florence even after we said goodbye to him. We are a family of 5 ranging in ages from 12 to 52, and he was engaging and entertaining for everyone. He didn’t miss a beat when we added last minute requests like the best gelato shop in the city or advice on good restaurants. We have no reservations in recommending Marco to anyone looking for a guide on their visit to Florence. Master story teller unlocks city’s secrets

Marco gave my wife and I a tour around Florence — it was incredible! Marco is an art historian, which is the perfect set of knowledge in a city with such a rich history of art and art influence. He took us to places we never would have gone, explained their value and significance to Florence, and walked us through time using art and architecture. He was also incredibly accommodating to our 3-month-old and her needs. Just a great overall experience. Just Great!

My husband and I had the good fortune to choose Marco as our guide for the highlights of the Uffizi tour. Marco is incredibly adept at navigating the labyrinth of the Uffizi, choosing the right spot at the right time in order for us to gain the best view of the highlights. Marco is extremely adaptable regarding the needs of any group. I had let him know that we wanted to spend more time with fewer pieces rather than try to see too much. Marco was quick to oblige and this approach gave him a chance to demonstrate his amazing depth of knowledge of the Renaissance paintings we were primarily interested in seeing. I appreciated the stories behind the artists, the careful analysis of the elements and style of particular paintings and the historical context for Renaissance painting Marco provided. Lest you think any of this was dry or boring, fear not! Marco's passion for the art is contagious and our time flew. I hadn't exactly clued my husband into the idea of spending more time with fewer pieces (oops!) so after a bit of time he asked if we could speed it up and see more. Marco instantly and graciously shifted gears, picking up the pace and packing in more of what the Uffizi has to offer. I would highly recommend Marco for your tour of the Uffizi!Exceptional knowledge!
