Isabel has stories to tell and you want to hear them. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about our evening: the food, the wine, and especially the company. We were served four courses of authentic food which was explained in detail and the three (plus) hours zipped by. I was in Lisbon 4 weeks ago, and although I'm an experienced traveler, it was my first experience with private dinner, and I was a bit apprehensive. But when I arrived, Isabel was so warm and welcoming, it felt like a meeting a friend. Isabel is an amazing host, and Chico is a lovely and well-behaved dog. Her apartment is cozy and inviting, with great art... Food and wine were plentiful, three course meal with multiple dishes for each course and every dish was made with love and care, everything was so delicious! It felt very special to have homemade traditional food, made for me by Isabel, I asked for recipes and definitely will make some dishes at home. It was my birthday and Isabel made it extra special with birthday candles and celebration. Conversation flowed and we talked about everything-life experiences, culture, travel, family, current events... we laughed a lot, and I learned a lot about Portugal's history, culture, life in Portugal, got a lot of recommendations for future visits. At the end of the evening, I felt that it was not just a dinner, but a wonderful connection with an amazing person! It was a highlight of my trip to Lisbon and will definitely do it again. My best friend and I arrived in Lisbon and the same night had dinner with Isabel. Immediately when you walk in, you feel the comfort and warmth that Isabel provides. She is kind, funny, and makes the most delicious food! We enjoyed traditional food from her hometown - she truly puts so much heart and effort into the food she makes. Her dog, Chico often stole the show with his cute personality. We are huge dog lovers, so being able to snuggle a dog during our trip was such a highlight. Our wine glass never went empty and there was never a moment where food was not on the table for us to nosh on. Isabel empfing uns mit professionellem Charme. Während sie die letzten Vorbereitungen traf, nahmen wir in ihrem Wohnzimmer Platz und konnten an der Wand etliche von ihr selbst gemalte Bilder bewundern. Isabel ist eine hervorragende Köchin. Den ersten Gang eines insgesamt wirklich opulenten Menüabends bildete eine vielfältige Auswahl landestypischer Häppchen aus Gemüse, Fisch- und Fleischspezialitäten. Im Anschluss gab es einen herrlich überbackenen Fischauflauf, gefolgt von zart rosa gebratenen Scheiben des iberischen Schweins mit in Olivenöl gedünsteten Zucchinistreifen. Dazu wurden zwei passende, ausgezeichnet schmeckende Weine gereicht. Dass die abschließenden Desserttörtchen dem hohen Niveau der bisherigen Gänge nicht mehr ganz entsprachen, konnte den hervorragenden Gesamteindruck nicht mehr trüben. Der vielsprachigen Gastgeberin gelingt es mühelos, den ganzen Abend über eine durchwegs interessante Konversation zu gestalten, wobei private Themen genauso zur Sprache kommen wie gesellschaftlich aktuelle Fragestellungen. Insgesamt ein sehr gelungener Abend, der über die Kulinarik hinaus einen tiefen Einblick in portugiesische Denkweisen und Gepflogenheiten ermöglichte. Herzlichen Dank! Isabel welcomed us with professional charm. While she made the final preparations, we took a seat in her living room and admired several paintings on the wall, all of which she had painted herself. Isabel is an excellent cook. The first course of an overall truly sumptuous dinner menu consisted of a diverse selection of typical local appetizers, featuring vegetables, fish, and meat specialties. This was followed by a wonderfully baked fish casserole, followed by delicately pink slices of Iberian pork with sautéed zucchini strips in olive oil. Two fitting, excellently tasting wines accompanied the meal. The fact that the final dessert pastries did not quite match the high standard of the previous courses did not detract from the excellent overall impression. The multilingual host effortlessly managed to maintain a consistently interesting conversation throughout the evening, touching on both private topics and current societal issues. Overall, it was a very successful evening that provided a deep insight into Portuguese ways of thinking and customs beyond just the culinary experience. Many thanks! I had already done this experience a few years ago when I was in Lisbon alone. This time I wanted to share it with my partner Peter. It was really amazing to reunite with Isabel. Isabel is an amazing cook and exposes her guests to so many delicious regional Portuguese cuisines and wines explaining the importance within the Portuguese culture. She puts heart into the experience. The conversation between all of us flowed so easily as she has is knowledgeable about so many topics. She is warm and inviting. She also has such great style and was wearing really cool beautiful jewelry made by her talented daughter. In fact, one of the sweet moments of the evening was when I realized I had bought a necklace at a well curated Portuguese shop that carried her daughter’s jewelry. It was just such a magical evening. My husband and I enjoyed a lunch with Isabel, and it was absolutely the highlight of our entire trip to Lisbon! From the first moment, Isabel was so welcoming and kind. She has a beautiful home, made even more spectacular by her original works of art. Isabel told us so many great stories about Portugal and her family. She let us just hang out for awhile, asking questions and playing with her doggie; we started to feel like family, ourselves! All of this great atmosphere, and I haven't even gotten to the food! There were multiple courses of food and wine. Travelers get used to restaurants, and such, so having these home-cooked dishes with stories associated with them really makes for a meaningful meal. I would travel all the way from North Carolina, USA to Lisbon, Portugal just to have lunch with Isabel again. At no time did Isabel make us feel like just a couple of tourists crashing her home for a few hours. We really felt like friends by the end. The Highlight of Our Trip!

This was my first experience dining with a local in any of the countries that we have visited. We are world travelers having traveled to 6 continents and dozens of countries. Isabel welcomed our party of 8 when she usually accommodates a maximum of 7 people. The table was set to perfection and had a wide array of appetizers that was so inviting. We sat down and Isabel explained all of the appetizers on the table and poured a selection of red and white wine. We had four courses and Isabel explained each one of them. Each dish was absolutely delicious and Isabel was the perfect Host. We spent 3 lovely hours with Isabel drinking wine, and eating the way the Portuguese Locals do. A great time was had by all!
