My full day temple tour with Didot was awesome! He was kind, funny, and extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture, folklore, religion, and points of interest regarding the Indonesian people and was great at explaining it all in English. We were blessed with incredible weather and low crowds, but even if we hadn't been so lucky, Didot made sure we had great food, water, and his childhood friend Jovi, who was our driver, was always ready for us with the car and a smile! We learned a lot about Didot's family, visited a local market, ate at a lovely delicious restaurant, bought and drank delicious coffee, and saw many a temple, temple, temple! It was a day full of information, friendship, amazing food and architecture. Didot worked hard to explain all our potential itinerary options and tailored the day to suit our needs. If you are looking for a professional guide leading you around Yogyakarta, Didot is your man. Didot is super passionate about the history of Yogyakarta and keeps sharing great stories. His English is excellent and he always keeps you interested in learning new facts. We took our time at some spots which resulted in a delay of our schedule but this wasn't a problem at all. He all made it work out and we didn't need to miss anything. I honestly expected that visiting Borobudur wasn't so interesting anymore because you cannot climb the temple walls. However, compared to my visit in 2014, where I could climb the temples and hired a "resident" guide showing me around, I preferred our tour with Didot. Even though we couldn't climb the temples, Didot explained so much about the history of Borobudur that I didn't feel we missed something. The tip of the iceberg was the hidden temple in Pramanan complex that was visited by very few people. When we arrived here at the end of the day around sunset, there was just one other group of 5 people strawling around. Thank you so much for this wonderful day Didot. Me and my whole family absolutely loved it.Just fantastic

Didot is a great guide, very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Yogyakarta and just an all-around cool guy to hang out with. We really enjoyed the tour with Didot. Not only did he know everything about the temples, sultan's palace, etc and answered all our questions as well. Didot is truly passionate about what he does and wants to share his Javanese/Jogja culture with travelers like us. It's a very comprehensive tour which covers all the major sites in the Jogja area. Just book this tour would be my short advice. Do not let the early start scare you off, as it is so worth it. Now the long version. The booking was already a good experience, as Didot was quick to answer and explain everything. We let him know the hotel and he picked us up. We started at a local place to pick up breakfast, with so many choices. On the way to the sunrise Didot started explaining about the tempels, about the Indonesian culture and traditions. Amazing how much he knows and he tells all the information really well. Then to Borobudur, a Buddhist monestary (very peaceful!), lokal market visit, lunch, the water castle (with also the information about the underground mosk) and finally Prambanan, plus the grounds around it. Never during the day did we feel rushed, he gave my husband all the time to take pictures. It is a packed programme, but even at the end Didot still was enthousiastic. I would not have wanted to miss anything from this day, all places are unique. But if you think it is too much, Didot will change the plans. The only sad part is we did not get to meet Didots wife. I could not have imagined a better day than this thanks to the tour organized by Didot. Thanks to him I was able to really enter the atmosphere of this wonderful country, visit the wonders of the temples, of the sunset from one of the most spectacular points of Indonesia, and of the most characteristic and less touristy places in Yogyakarta and its surroundings. He has always been available to fulfill every request and always ready to give you detailed explanations on the history, culture and curiosities even less known to most of the places visited. The tour also includes tastings of the best local dishes, from breakfast to lunch. The program of the day follows the scheduled schedule unless you ask Didot to be able to customize it as you wish, in this case it will always be ready to make you happy. The day in the company of Didot was really beautiful and friendly and I recommend anyone who is near Yogyakarta to book a tour with him in order to truly appreciate and get to know this wonderful culture.Could never expected a better tour than this

Visiting Borobudur and Prambanan with Nurul was an amazing experience! It was a really packed schedule, and unfortunately the clouds where so thick that we couldn't see Borobudur from the hill where we watched the sunrise, but otherwise the day couldn't have gone better. Nurul was really nice and super knowledgeable about the temples history. I was really entertained by her retelling of the myths illustrated on the walls, and she made me try amazing food at lunchtime and delicious fruits in the afternoon. We had such a great day with Nurul. It was a very early start but so, so worth it. Nurul took us to a local bakery and we picked out some delicious treats for breakfast. The Borobudur sunrise was fantastic, we watched it inside the temple which we really enjoyed, despite a bit of a crowd. By the time Nurul was showing us around the rest of the temple and telling us really interesting stories about Buddhism it had got really quiet lower down and felt like we had the place to ourselves. We went around a another temple and to a market where we picked up some delicious fruit. Lunch was really delicious and vegetarian friendly for my husband. We took bikes around Prambanan, I'm bad on bikes and was slightly terrified, but Nurul was very patient and didn't laugh at me! The sunset at Prambanan was beautiful, We ate fruit while we watched it and chatted. We only had one full day in Yogyakarta and we honestly couldn't have spent it in a better way. We got so much out of the day and learned and experienced so much more than we could have done if we had done it by ourselves. Nurul was so knowledgeable, friendly and patient and we enjoyed our day so much. Yes, it's a long day. But it's so, so worth it and the memories will stay with us forever! Just make sure you grab sleep in the van when you can! Just the best day

I booked a sunset tour of the Prambanan temple complex with Didot. He came to pick me up at my hotel on time and I immediately felt at ease with him. Not only is Didot an easygoing and friendly person, he is very knowledgeable and guides you through both the Sewu and Prambanan temple complexes telling you many tales from both Hinduism and Buddhism and explaining the intricacies of the connections between both religions. Didot is proud of the heritage on Central Java and his descriptions of the carvings at Prambanan, notably those depicting the epic Ramayana are so vivid that if you close your eyes you can almost imagine the story unfolding right in front of your eyes. The visit was truly special and I would highly recommend Didot to anyone visiting the area. Next time, I will make sure I also choose Didot to visit Borobudur!The best guide in town!

Didot presented himself as a very professional and knowledgeable tour guide. We went to see the temples, Borobudur and Prambanan. It was the most beautiful sight we had ever seen. We were unable to see Pramabanan temples due to rain but Didot did not want us to feel disappointed, so he picked up us the next day to complete the tour. Thank you Didot you made us feel important. This was my first time making use of withlocals and don't regret it at all. I first thought that it was a bit expensive but the entrace tickets are included (which makes it so expensive). I had a great experience in Jogja with these guys. First of all, they are really passionate about Jogja and Indonesia and they are truly experts. I can not recommend Nurul enough the tour/ trip/ time spent with a local was fantastic. Akin to your friends showing you round the city and all the sights. Nurul and Didot were fantastic guides, very knowledgeable and friendly, and happy to tailor the tour to my interests. I enjoyed learning about the history of the temples (Borobodur, the Water Castle and Prambanan), and learning/chatting about Yogyakarta and Indonesia generally. I love strolling through markets so I was glad to get the chance to stop and try some local fruits. She took us to see the temples, went to a local market and bought some fruit, we ate lunch at the mushroom restaurant (no tourists :)) and also visited the sultan palace. My review is for Nurul’s husband, Didot. Didot is very personable and easy going, and a great conversationalist. He has also clearly done his homework. Didot explained to me the stories and/or religious concepts behind many of the carved relief panels at both Borobudur and Prambanan, he explained the history of all of the sites we visited, he was knowledgeable about how places achieve UNESCO World Heritage status, and he just knew a lot of interesting stuff overall. He is very witty and cracked several funny jokes, including a Dave Grohl/Nirvana joke at Borobudur :-) In addition to all the facts about the historical sites, it was nice hearing about Didot’s life with Nurul, and hearing the perspective of a local person on life in general. Didot had excellent suggestions for photo locations and angles, and took a lot of photos for me so that I could be in them. He arrived at my hotel for pick up right on time, he was a safe driver, he was attentive to my comfort during the short morning hike, and he was considerate in so many ways. Why choose Nurul and Didot over competitors with similar itineraries? For starters, you will be pleased that you chose a private experience over a group tour the moment you see the crowds at Borobudur. With Nurul and Didot you will also have a private sunrise experience, with no competition over the best place to stand for selfies, because they take you to a spot away from the other tourists. There is also the unhurried pace of the tour. Instead of me sticking to someone else’s rigid schedule, I felt like the tour was conducted around my interests and like I had some flexibility. At the Prambanan complex, for example, Didot asked me if I wanted to see the main three Brahma/Shiva/Vishnu Temples first, or if I would prefer to see Sewu Temple first, as it is often much less crowded. I went with his advice and we began with Sewu Temple, and it was so lovely being able to experience it with almost no one else around! Didot was always thinking about ways to help me make the most of my tour. He and Nurul are excellent with communication, starting from the time you book. Together with Nurul and her husband Didot, we enjoyed a while day around Yogjakarta. Firstly, we went to watch the sunrise to the Borobodur. At a small hill at the west side of the valley, we experienced a prived sunrise (because there were no other people around). After the sunrise, we went to see the Borobodur closerby. Didot took us to this largest Buddhistic temple in the world. He explained us the story and took us up. Afterwards, we went to a local market, were we bought some (for us) unknown fruits. Then, we got off to a small Buddhistic temple, were the monks were learning and praying. After this visit, we ate together with Nurul and Didot the delicious fruits, like Jackfruit, snake fruits, sweet apple and papaya. Our next stop was the Sultan's palace, a remarkble building in which Nurul took us to. She showed us the gamelan instruments, the batik materials and prints and the honour room for Sultan IX. After our visit to the palace, we went to have lunch at Nurul and Didot's house. Next to the lunch, we went to the Prambanan temple, a Hinduistic temple, combined with three other (Buddhistic) tempels. Nurul took us there and explained the story of the Hindu religion with Shiva. Afterwards, after 15 great hours of experiences we got at our hotel again. Enchanted by the wonderfull buildings, stories and surrounding. My husband and I had an incredible time with Nurul and Didot. From the time they picked us up from our hotel, we were met with two enthusiastic and amazing people. They were very knowledgeable, fun and very accommodating to our needs. At the end of the tour, we felt like we had made two new friends in Indonesia! Didot also has a great eye for photography and knew all the right spots/places for the best photos. Highly recommended!Amazing experience!

I think Withlocals is a great concept! To hire a local/locals as your guide. You'll find hidden gems they only know and a taste of life as it really is. I also like the fact they prefer small groups of 1 - 4 people. You'll get their undivided attention. That is what Nurul and Didot provide. Give you an amazing tour/experience through Yogyakarta, showing me the touristic attractions with all the relevant information but also showing me life as it is!! We had a pleasant day with Nurul ..... 3am pick up with a stop at the local bakery for the sunrise tour. He showed us the nice spot for history and away from the main crowd so we truly enjoy each place he took us. He gave us a choice of place to eat and flexible with our time. I am most grateful.
